salsa is cool. shag is bouncy like house music. i like both styles.
ive heard international shag experts recommending this clip. a murray studios toned down steps for an older audience (college kids - who popularized the shag didnt have $ for lessons) but the instructors are authentic street dancers from teh era.
Really? The "Ruthie and Johnnie" "student's" were the winner's of the 1937 Harvest Moon Ball held @ Madison Square Garden (an event that still goes on today)They went on to dance professionally, played with Benny Goodman, Gene Krupa, were reviewed by Ed Sullivan and played twice at the White House. Johnnie enlisted when WWII came and became a Captain serving with Patton and Eisenhower. They were my parent's. Keep crude comments to yourself!

That looks like a very uncomfortable dance, banging your feet and legs around. Nice to look at but sorry, I'll stick with Salsa.

Nah, go on, give it a try. You might just like it. I can't help but smile all evening when I'm swing dancing!

Whatever it was, no relation whatsoever to the shag. Instruction by a Clydesdale working for Arthur Murray Studios does not cut it.

I agree with you.
Is it that we lost the knowledge? Maybe it's because there are too many other influences. It must have been incredible to be a part of it all though!
