you do seem to be rather close to the middle of the road there, rather than keeping to the right - difficult to judge the speed, but as others have said it looks well below 55MPH - perhaps closer to 55 KMH ?
However all of those people behind were probably breaking the speed limit too...

I commute through an area like this, lots of guys out putting around on bikes. It's fine, enjoy the scenery but don't hold up the locals that have somewhere to go. While in 95% of cases I would side with the motorist, because cagers don't have a fucking clue what they're doing.. This guy is definitely NOT going 55mph at the speed limit like he says. It looks about 40-45 at the most, and most people drive 5 over the speed limit, so this isn't exactly going to make people happy. Theres no reason for a bike to be going less than the speed limit, and if you seriously must, keep it to about 5 or less under.

my best example I can think of is you are caught in a massive crowd of people at an event. the organizers say stay still, but there is a stampede and the crowd is all starting to run. do you run to stay with the flow? or listen to "the law" and stay still, only to get run over?

Its all about being aware of whats happening around you. If there is someone faster coming up behind you, especially when you're on a bike, wouldn't it be easier to let them pass by, instead of maintaining your 'right of way'? I usually drive at least 10km/hour slower than the national limit for fuel consumption, always facilitating the smooth flow of traffic around me. No man is an island.

By the speed of the passing shadows, I would say you are going under 55. You also aren't maintaining constant speed. In fact, sounds like you completely decelerate at least twice. Finally, the law in California for two-laners is you cannot hold up traffic that wants to go faster. Four or more vehicles following and you must pullover.
I ride mostly in MA and NH and I would rather have a car drive by me and honk if they think I'm going to slow than ride my ass so close that I can't pull over safely.( witch is usually the case) I don't always go the speed limit either but I will slow it down if there's a chance a dear or moose might run out in front of me

That wasn't road rage. They had every right to pass you. It wasn't a solid double yellow line when they passed you up. It was a passing lane. The yellow lines were painted for passing when they passed you. Nothing illegal or of road rage there by any means.

Umm, sorry but that was not right, I would find it ok, if 1 car did it, but it looked like 3 did it? They probably were impatient and tailgating each other. So like a domino effect, the guy behind the bike decides to pass and the other guys did too, lets say a car was coming and the last car doesnt see someone coming he gets hit, dies and all to pass a bike going the speed limit, very stupid.
It was four cars and they did it on a stright away with good vision of who would have been coming. The guy on the bike should have pulled over and let them pass earlier, When I am on a mountain pass towing the trailor DOING THE SPEED LIMIT if there are more then a couple of cars behind me I always find a cut out and pull over because it is the curtious thing to do.

Those drivers were not nessesarily form Sedona. In your position I usually turn on my signal and pull far to the right and let them pass. As in a big rig, 5 or more constitutes the driver in front letting faster drivers go around , reguardless of the speed limit. It makes EVERYONE happier. Now you can ENJOY the scenery!

Remember if you are going 55 MPH the person behind you is going 50 MPH, and the person behind them is going 45, and the person behind them is going 40 MPH. If I am the last person behind everyone I am now going 35 MPH in a 55 MPH zone and in danger of getting hit by someone coming from behind at a much faster speed so yeah I might be a bit mad at you but I am not going to run you off the road and if you get mad because you are incosiderate of other people safety then that your problem not mine.

Ok first of all I am from the Sedona Area and clearly in this video you are on Hwy 89A heading south from Flagstaff you haven't even reach the switchbacks or Oak Creek Canyon so you are nowhere near Sedona you are still about 20-25 miles north and most people speed in this part because they don't want to be stuck behind someone who will be going 10-15 MPH down the switchbacks like you.

I commute through an area like this, lots of guys out putting around on bikes. It's fine, enjoy the scenery but don't hold up the locals that have somewhere to go. Your safest action would be pull over, let them pass then continue and not get some idiot in a hurry and cause them to pass you in a bad location.

While in 95% of cases I would side with the motorist, because cagers don't have a fucking clue what they're doing.. This guy is definitely NOT going 55mph at the speed limit like he says. It looks about 40-45 at the most, and most people drive 5 over the speed limit, so this isn't exactly going to make people happy. Theres no reason for a bike to be going less than the speed limit, and if you seriously must, keep it to about 5 or less under.

@junekentucky your comment makes a good point in terms of following the law, but my point is that when you drive that much slower than the flow of traffic, regardless of legally or not, it is dangerous.
my best example I can think of is you are caught in a massive crowd of people at an event. the organizers say stay still, but there is a stampede and the crowd is all starting to run. do you run to stay with the flow? or listen to "the law" and stay still, only to get run over?

Its all about being aware of whats happening around you. If there is someone faster coming up behind you, especially when you're on a bike, wouldn't it be easier to let them pass by, instead of maintaining your 'right of way'? I usually drive at least 10km/hour slower than the national limit for fuel consumption, always facilitating the smooth flow of traffic around me. No man is an island.

By the speed of the passing shadows, I would say you are going under 55. You also aren't maintaining constant speed. In fact, sounds like you completely decelerate at least twice. Finally, the law in California for two-laners is you cannot hold up traffic that wants to go faster. Four or more vehicles following and you must pullover.

That wasn't road rage. They had every right to pass you. It wasn't a solid double yellow line when they passed you up. It was a passing lane. The yellow lines were painted for passing when they passed you. Nothing illegal or of road rage there by any means.

You must be going slow if that many cars pass. Speed limit may be 55, but must people do 60-65 easy in a 55 zone. Theres nothing wrong with doing the posted limit, but most people go faster.

Dont know about AZ, but in TN if there are five or more vehicles piled up behind you, you are supposed to pull over to let them by even if you are doing the speed limit. There is no way this motorcyclist was traveling 55, however.

Man, as a rider, this scares me. Number one, NEVER ride the speed limit on a bike. The variance is worse than in a car. Number 2, if someone's on your ass and you know you're holding up traffic, it's ok to pull over to the right and let em go. I could imagine if this schmuck was on a wing, then it would pretty much be a rolling roadblock, but for Christ's sakes, nobody goes the speed limit on 89A unless the road's frozen over. 10 over isnt' going to kill you, it will probably save your life

Those drivers were not nessesarily form Sedona. In your position I usually turn on my signal and pull far to the right and let them pass. As in a big rig, 5 or more constitutes the driver in front letting faster drivers go around , reguardless of the speed limit. It makes EVERYONE happier. Now you can ENJOY the scenery!

Remember if you are going 55 MPH the person behind you is going 50 MPH, and the person behind them is going 45, and the person behind them is going 40 MPH. If I am the last person behind everyone I am now going 35 MPH in a 55 MPH zone and in danger of getting hit by someone coming from behind at a much faster speed so yeah I might be a bit mad at you but I am not going to run you off the road and if you get mad because you are incosiderate of other people safety then that your problem not mine.

Ok first of all I am from the Sedona Area and clearly in this video you are on Hwy 89A heading south from Flagstaff you haven't even reach the switchbacks or Oak Creek Canyon so you are nowhere near Sedona you are still about 20-25 miles north and most people speed in this part because they don't want to be stuck behind someone who will be going 10-15 MPH down the switchbacks like you.
