If comments here are intended to insult Mormons, you've got to have the attitude, kindness and respect to show that your faith gives testimony of a living and true God. Mormons, like the rest of the world, need the Message. So use wisdom to give it out!!! Blessings!!!
@Sk8er408 A Bible-based doctrine, with no need of the Joseph Smith account, nor the Book of Mormon. The Bible has enough info to lead us to eternal life. The problem with additional material, in the case of the Mormon church, is that it contradicts Scripture. Without going into a lot, if I asked a Mormon: Can I remain in my Church and still be saved?
@Sk8er408 Up to "us" in the sense that we have to extend our hand to receive the gift, but not by merit: "For by grace ye are saved through faith; and this not of yourselves. It is the gift of God." -Ephesians 2:8. Also, Gal. 1:8 says that if an angel preaches a different gospel different from the one already preached, let him be accursed (Moroni). The Mormon church relies on works to reach salvation, that alone is erroneous enough, works come as a result of salvation, not the other way around.
Yes we must extend that hand. How do you extend that hand? Yes it is a gift... not of yourself... no one has claimed it was not a gift or that we could earn it. What different gospel has been preached? What does Jesus say about works and our salvation? I suggest you read his words in John 15:12-14.
We choose to follow... you accept salvation by being a doer... being doers is extending that hand. We are not puppets for God to pull our strings.
@Sk8er408 That passage in John is NOT talking about earning Heaven by works. I already point out that I believe in good works, but they come as a result of being saved, we don't buy favors from God, because we wouldn't be able to afford them. We're not puppets of God, it's true, I never claimed that, yes we have to do good works, but out of love. What other gospel? I don't accept the book of Mormon to be Divinely inspired, that's the other gospel!
You have issues with putting things in that no 1 said. Again, I've never said that anyone earns their salvation nor does the LDS church believe this. This verse does state very clearly that Jesus laid his life down for his friends & his friends are those that do everything he has commanded of them. No where does it say works R a product of salvation. U imply that we R puppets when U claim that works R only by those that R saved. Who told you the bible was divinely inspired?
@Sk8er408 2Tim. 3:16 says all Scripture is inspired by God. Now if you don't believe the Bible is Divinely inspired, we can then believe anything, and any "holy" book that is presented to us, such as the Bagavad Ghita, the Q'uran, etc., and our discussion becomes futile.
That is actually really funny... almost as funny as the pagans that claim Wicca is the oldest religion & then point to the bible for proof.
You dodged the question. So you believe blindly that the bible is inspired? Me, I do not put my faith in ink and paper. I do not hold the bible up above my God & make it an idol. I put my faith solely in God. Please do not claim that i do not believe in the bible. I do... but i do not make the bible equal to or greater then my God.
@Sk8er408 I don't hold the Bible as superior to God, but rather as the instructions to follow. Wicca and other religions can hold to whatever they want, that is irrelevant to the matter. There is a reason why the Bible was written, all the essential parts of it are intact. Moral and human precepts are recorded by men of God. If I don't hold that to be true, then, as I said, it's no use to keep on going. A warmth in my heart doesn't cut it, for it is "by faith and not by sight" (or feeling).
Again... you fail to answer the question at hand. Why do you hold the bible to be true? Is it blind faith? What? There is no wrong answer I just would like to know why you hold it to be "recorded by men of God"???
I do not think this is a hard question. I can answer it... can you?
@Sk8er408 I will say it clearly, since you couldn't figure out by my argument that in fact I DO believe the Bible is true. My faith is NOT blind, the Bible is a light and a lamp (as David puts it). If I didn't believe the Bible was true, and Divinely inspired I wouldn't be able to trust it for such an important matter as eternal destiny. If the Bible isn't true, why trust it? Archaeology and geography confirm Bible accounts and people. As for the book of Mormon, a world of myth (no offense).
Let me make this more clearer as you seem to not understand.
I fully understand that you believe the bible to be truth as do I. That was not the question. You are either being disingenuous because you do not want to answer the real question or you seem to not understand the simple question. Here it is one more time. Let me know if you do not understand it... Otherwise i'll assume you are being disingenuous about it.
@Sk8er408 It was compiled throughout the ages by men of God. There were many other books also, but were discarded by the Jews as being inspired. Many of those books contain prophecy that has come to pass, the laws of God are written on them. The testament was written based on the OT, then, men of God, knowing the rules of interpretation compiled the Cannon. Books that do not contradict what God has said, and don't contradict each other. Nothing needs to be added, we have enough light in it.
@Sk8er408 the Mormon church uses the Bible, and know well about the prophecies that were fulfilled in Christ. There you have it, I've answered your question. Now can you answer this? About me remaining the way I am and still be saved, why do we need a Mormon church if we can still gather info to be saved without it? Why preach to the world when there are thousands of non-Mormon churches around the world that can equally send the same message?
@Sk8er408 The issue of "faith" has to be applied to it, but not a faith in something that isn't clear, like for example, Native American religions that believed in the "great pirit" or souls of the dead, etc. I believe the spiritual world is real, and the Bible is, yes, a history Book, but it's something greater that that. So my faith isn't blind because I have something to rely on. So, faith on something reliable. The book of Mormon is fantasy, not = to the Bible, that's their error.
@Sk8er408 Ok, then, the Aztec feathered serpent is god, wait, why not choose Mary to be god (or goddess)...well maybe Allah, or Brahma or whatever we choose. I don't see the Bible as a God, you're interpreting that as such just because you choose to believe in a deity blind-folded. God is NOT like that, he gives you the instructions to follow, if we didn't have instructions, He would speak audibly to us like he did in the past. The book of Mormon is a fairy tale with no place in God's world.
@Sk8er408 No the Book of Mormon is a fairy tale because the stories in it are no true, thy're tales. The Bible is NOT God, and it is the source of truth because if we didn't have it we could then believe anything. Like the tablets John Smith was able to interpret (only him). What God speaks today has to match what is written. That's what I believe, you're free to believe anything you want, and since you are never satisfied with what I respond, I'll call it quits. Nice chatting, take care!
So what if the mormon church uses it. I'm not asking about what they believe but what you believe & why? Why is this a hard Q for you to answer? How do you know they were fulfilled in Christ?
Seeing as i'm not LDS I'm not sure why you would ask me. But they believe they have the authority given to them from God through Jesus through Peter James & John though JS
FYI the thousands of non-Mormon churches around the world do not equally send the same message.

I think this is classic idol worship. You have made a book, ink and paper the basis of your faith instead of God above.
I've yet to see anyone show me without a double standard that the BoM is not = to the Bible.
What is not reliable about the BoM?

YOu do see the bible as a god when you make it your source of truth... or a medium for God. It is an idol for you.
I dont get your "deity blind-folded" comment.
Yes God gives us instructions by way of the Spirit. Why did God stop speaking audibly?
Why is the BoM a fairy tale? Is it because it has a talking ass?
