Thanks for posting! Rare video indeed ! You guys are lucky to have that performed live in Europe . Wished she could have included that on her US tour!
I seen Sarah Perform this in Manchester, UK. She said she felt out of place not having a glow stick or something that flashed while she did this song and as she said that i pulled out of my pocket a flashing lighter and held it up. Everyone started laughing including Sarah and she came over to me and spoke to me! She then took my lighter to dance with and after the song she gave me my lighter back (which i still have) and said thankyou and she hugged me. Just wanted to share!
I was there in Amsterdam in 2004. Great performance.. Her introduction was very funny too, saying her manager told her she should do this track because it would probably be the only one we would recognize.. :p
This song was destined to be a tance track from the beginning. I know this is only my opinion but opinions are like assholes....everyones got one, lol. no offense to anyone, please.
@jarjar2b totally agree ( i like trance as well), to me the original version of silence has a natural violent beauty to it, a whirlwind that gathers momentum with the rise and fall of sarah's voice. the trance remixes always include that solid beat which i dont think suits the melancholy introspective tone of the original
pinches pendejos como pueden preferir la cancion mix con tiesto, si seran imbeciles, desvirtualizan la cancion original, el remix es beuno pero nunca va a uperar la original!
The best performance of this song, and the only one I have seen live myself, was when she performed this WITH Delerium as the opening song for the Concert For Tsunami Relief in Vancouver, January 2005. Fucking amazing.
Her voice is incredible. I'm not sure there are even words to describe them when she hits the high notes, but I'm sure that when she sings them, I'll be able to point to them and say "those".
holy shit man it would've taken every ounce of restraint i have to not scream "hell yeah" during this song...and for that reason, I'm glad I wasn't there.
This is why I hate it when there are hundreds of remixed songs out there. No one ever really realizes who the original creator is. In this case, Tiesto gets most of the credit for a song he didn't even create. I mean hell, all he did was trance it up with added bells and whistles. I love Tiesto, biut come on, he's not the creator in this case.
i totally agree. Sad thing is, Above & Beyond's remix is even better in my opinion. Just a few remixes are good if you dont over do them b/c they introduce non-trance/dance artists to other listeners.

Good Name!!! Sarah!!! Ask her how she treated Natalie Merchant at an event when she first became a star.
She was pure EVIL!!! She wants the world to think that she is so good save the dogs, save the planet. What she needs to do is save herself by being a real loving genuine person. Maybe by now she has changed. I hope so.
In 1997, McLachlan co-wrote and provided guest vocals on the Delerium song "Silence" for their album Karma. This song achieved a massive amount of top 40 airplay when released as a single in late 2000 and also featured on the soundtrack for the movie Brokedown Palace.
The song Possession was inspired by Sarah's experience with said stalker, but the lyrics were not taken from his letters. In fact, in an interview I read a looong time ago, she said the lyrics took more from The Police's "Every Breath You Take" than anything else.
It was only in the stalker's mind that Possession's lyrics were stolen from his letters. Some of them were published on the internet a few years ago, and there's no resemblance.
i saw her worcester, mass - and would have LOVED for her to have performed this song on the entire afterglow tour! maybe next tour she will include it. here's to wishful thinking! ;-)
She performed this in North America as well, I had the pleasure to play in this tour as the opening act when she was touring in Ontario, Canada. We did 3 shows and I must say, she was a sweetheart in person and her singing turned me into a huge fan, she earned a lot of respect as a musician and. Her performance was flawless, she reached all her notes without any effort and her band also kicked ass. I'm love with her music since than.
I agree, but live is harder too perform than producing. Alltho producing requires perfectionism rather than beeing able to repeat the same work of art many times. The remix really has something to it that really makes it spark in the dark
The original song was by delerium. which remix do you like? I like Tiesto's and Fade's remixes.. but current favorite is the new Niels van Gogh & Thomas Gold Remix.
I dislike the Tiesto version as he puts to many honk's and bells in the song, it disturbes the purity of the song imo, i have a cd: Trance Atlantic from Ministry, and there is a version on it that is the remix, but pure.. Delirium, Silence [Nettwerk] it says on the cd.
for the most part Delerium songs are good the way. Most remixes ruin the song in Deleriums case the remixes usually turns the song into tecno or generic club which in the case of Delerium and Sarah McLachlan is not needed. The are some exeptions.
well, i can say that the airscape remix of silence did make a huge classic here in europe. it's like an anthem, and a lot of people got to know the music of sarah by it.
it's something that happened also with chicane's saltwater, featuring verses from clannad's theme for harry's game, sung by máire brennan.
Sarah's involvement is on a different order than that of say Kristy, Jael, or any of the others who have worked with Delerium/Conjour One in that she really does take over the song, it is the focal point of the work, where as in most of the other delerium works the vocal is one of many instruments playing. Sarah has a level of power and projection in the (especially) upper registers that most of the other vocalists that have been part of this project can't match.
Wow, we have some very confused folks around here. And its sweet to see how passionate people can get over this paticular opus. I for one can certainly understand. I think that Bill Leeb, and Rhys Fulber, are demiGods, and and two of the most amazing composers of the Ambient and Electronica genres. (Those are the two men that actually wrote the song "Silence") Sarah McLachlan, simply is credited with Vocals. Having first done so on the "Karma" CD Released in 1997.
Tiesto's remix is called "Dj Tiesto's In Search Of Sunrise Remix".
Eventhough productionwise it wasnt that special its still got a very magical vibe on it, even now the crowd goes wild if Tiesto plays that one during his live sets.
When I first found tiesto's remix, I went wild. A song with both tiesto and sarah in its title, my favorite artists at the time :)
Right. Tiesto did several mixes of Silence, the work he did at both the Yeti and 541 labels, (in which he recorded the search of sunrise reMixes) are in Belgium.
"Hi Im new to youtube. Did she do this song on the North American leg of the tour, if not why?"
From what I read, it was only performed in europe, because this is actually her most famous song over here! Too bad the dvd is based on her shows in America, so Silence didnt appear on the DVD.
ok...lets get this straight...sarah McLachlan wrote this song with the band delerium (stealing vocals from enigma). the tiesto mix is a pile of crap (P :))
afaik the vocals were written by sarah mclachlan but im not entirely sure ill have to look it up on google :)
And yes first ever version was from Delerium. Then came the "Sanctuary Remix" by Fade, which got some play in clubs.. after that Tiesto's remix became the biggest trance anthem ever, and the Airscape remix brought the song to the non-clubbers :)
was one of my favourites of the night, and i only had memories of it, so thanks a lot for uploading it! it's a shame there was no video of the concert, i'd have liked that!

However they all remained under the close eye of their prodogal father's the eclectic Leeb & Fulber.
