@maven21 Europe would have loved to carve up China into 20 different countries that could be more easily controlled. It was not the same in part because those Asian countries maintained better control. The Japanese kept the Europeans out as long as possible. Ethiopia still has their own language and calendar while countries like Cameroon, Ivory Coast, and Angola carry the names and culture of their invaders. Africa should be 25 countries, not more than 50. It is Africa's greatest failure.

China has literacy rate is around 80% of the population. It makes the implementation of policies to be much more convenient than other developing countries, because their people were able to read. A country's development starts with agriculture and elementary education for at least one generation (15 years) and then industrialization (see Korea & Taiwan who took off at the 70s). You could not jump steps. And African leaders are too corrupted and short-sighted to even implementing the first step.

It was not the same in part because those Asian countries maintained better control. The Japanese kept the Europeans out as long as possible. Ethiopia still has their own language and calendar while countries like Cameroon, Ivory Coast, and Angola carry the names and culture of their invaders. Africa should be 25 countries, not more than 50. It is Africa's greatest failure.

China has literacy rate is around 80% of the population. It makes the implementation of policies to be much more convenient than other developing countries, because their people were able to read. A country's development starts with agriculture and elementary education for at least one generation (15 years) and then industrialization (see Korea & Taiwan who took off at the 70s). You could not jump steps. And African leaders are too corrupted and short-sighted to even implementing the first step.

They flood the entire continent with cheap products, and brought in millions of chinese workers, and traders to do the jobs which local workers could, and should themselves do.

Wow great insight a lot ppl do not understand what China was just 40 years ago under Mao Zedong (red china) and now look at them after deciding to open up to the international community.I thought about the diversity between African tribes and states (china is as well very diverse) though it often upsets me when i look at Africa today, all its citizens blame it on horrible leadership which is true though colonialism is a factor as well because we cannot expect them to grow at the rate of the west

Many in the West do not know "The Century of Humiliation" of the Chinese and the brutal exploitation they experienced from Europeans, US and Japan. The "Unequal Treaties" is the epitome of humiliation when whole cities and provinces were lost (ie. Hong Kong, Macau, Shanghai, etc).
