awesome job. again, i loved having a woman's voice for the latter part of the game. thanks for posting this up, and for keeping things clean (although the part with zayisha certainly shouldn't be considered mature considering the graphics lol). well done. i subbed.
this is one of the best games, if not THE best RPG games of all time...so creative and magical, and fun and humorous...too bad games like this isn't made anymore :(
I know you've gotten many thanks already, but I wanted to add another: thanks for taking me back to a special part of my childhood, and saving me the time it would take myself to play the games again!
This is my favourite ending to a QFG game; it actually gives the feeling of closure. If you wanted to think "This is how I want my hero's adventure to end", you pretty much can do that. QFG 1 and 4 both end on a "move to the next quest" note, and QFG 3 (despite being one of my favourite instalments) has the kind of cliffhanger ending that instills more rage than anticipation. I never played the fifth game, so I can't comment on that one.
Err...not really. You still don't know the identity of Dark Master that Ad Avis spoke of. Not to mention the game flat out says there will be a sequel (the vampiric moon doesn't help either).
Well, for the most part, it does. The "Dark Master" part doesn't tug that the imagination that much, and the vampiric moon after the credits can easily be ignored.
I'm basically trying to say that if someone felt "Well, this has been an interesting tale... but I don't want to know more", that this game has the best feeling of closure out of QFGs 1-4.
I enjoyed this Let's Play. In fact, was quite addicted to it, (but managed to use it as leverage to reward myself for doing homework for college). Bravo!
P.S. I could never finish a Quest For Glory game, mainly because, while it was fun to play around in it, it just appeared a daunting task to attempt to play it seriously.
Hmmm, even if you never do a Let's Play series on it, I highly recommend you play QFG 3 regardless. It's got a great story and a real unique atmosphere. The only real shortcoming is there aren't quite enough activities to do on the African savanah.
Re: missing points, Did you kill every type of monster? When you play a fighter, they have this self-esteem problem unless they know they can beat up everything, in fact it must really eat at him that he finds no evil Katta or Gnomes (just itching to find some dirt on Keapon).
Beating Rakeesh and maybe Uhura in the spar might give up points as well. Honestly, I'm surprised you're not over 500 as you were playing all 3 paths.
Did you sell tails and claws to Harik? Return Omar's purse?
Well, clearly I should know better then to offer advice before I watch all your videos. In fact, I'll just become a timid recluse until I absorb all there is to know about life, the universe and everything...starting with the source code of QfG2.
No, it's okay, lots of people comment before watching the entire video, let alone the next video in the series... I appreciate all the ideas, it just happened that I found out where the 7 missing points went. :)
On the Floppy version, in dosbox, after meeting Ad Avis again when he summons his necrotaur pets, you can go back to town and climb over the wall. If you go out of town during the night, you'll be caught, but during the day, you can go out, the chase music will play, but nothing happens. Weird huh?
The skipped dialog box just before the Shadows of Darkness promo:
But wait! There's more to come in the next thrilling saga of "Quest for Glory" by Lori and Corey.
Hrm, I don't really like to experience a series out of order, but Wages of War was kind of wedged in in the first place.
Oh, and just so you know, the DOS version of QfG4 has the nice color animated icons. And you can even narrate the CDROM version by turning Text on and Audio off. Besides DosBox, you may need belzorash's patches.
Yeah, I know you can turn speech off in the CD version of the game... That's probably what I'll end up doing. And I think my version of the game already has those patches, as I played it to the end without any bugs other than the Domovoi bug and the Ad Avis bug which I dedicated a whole video to some time ago.
For some reason, I found those animated icons a little annoying at first until I got used to them.
Ugh, the Domovoi bug... that one hit me too, and I had to replay half the game. Instead of being a program bug like the others that crash the game, this one is more a decision tree logic error, where a wrong sequence of user input halts progress in the story.
Ah yes, I remember that Ad Avis bug video now. I had a few issues with saved games there also, but to a slightly different effect than you got. I can't remember what it was that I got now though.
***SPOILER ALERT*** Actually, Julanar reappears as a human character in QFG5, married to someone else. The true love of another person turned her back into a human.
QFG3 may not be the best in the series--QFG2 and QFG4 take those honors in terms of plot--but "Wages of War" definitely takes the cake when it comes to sentimental value for me. The game was the first one I ever played with a sound card, and it served as my reintroduction to the series. I played Hero's Quest when I was younger but didn't realize it had been renamed. From there I got into the others. If you don't do QFG3, I may sometime. Not sure if I'd have time, but I may try. :)
Also can you do QFG3 after you played it and you get comfortable with it. You very welcome I proud to support your Lets plays because they are very interesting and very well done. Cant wait until the next Lets play. I just hope you dont run into those disturbing errors during the next lets play of QFG4 like the Error 47 and the error 52.
Oh whoops, I said that before I watched the whole video. Sorry. (referring to my response to fender178)
Also LateBlt, I remember ADVRipper saying before that you had to jump down in the earth elemental's room in the cave rather than use the magic rope to get the points since you are a fighter.
About the game breaking errors, look up on Google "Script code patches for Sierra SCI games" and find some patches that NewRisingSun/belzorash made for many broken Sierra games a few years back.
Alright! QFG4 was always my favorite, even if I couldn't beat it due to all the programming errors. I'm really glad you reconsidered giving it a shot, and I look forward to the next Let's Play. Until then, peace!
Trust me, I tried. I encountered this really odd error when I went to the Dark One's cave to perform the rituals and the game "reset" back to Day 1; going outside triggered the meeting with Katrina, but when I went to the castle, she was waiting to take me back to the cave to perform the rituals...
Now that's a weird error. Restoring your game to an earlier point didn't help? Then again, I never saw anything that severe.
After patching, I still had a few rare random errors (occasional crashes when entering the room at the inn) but never anything that loading a saved game didn't fix. I didn't have to use DosBox either, since with the patched DOS version ran fine for me in Win98.
On the topic of "where the path leads", the Coles explained that originally they envisioend a four-part Quest for Glory series to represent the four classical elements (Air, Fire, Earth, and Water, respectively), but they felt that the challenges the hero would face in Mordavia were too severe coming right out of Shapeir, and so they reluctantly created an interim "non-elemental" Quest for Glory in "Wages of War". Either that or a Magician makes more sense. There ARE quests and missions that only Paladins or Magicians can do. The fighter and thief stuff can be done by all classes (provided you DO have the skills).
But yeah, it WOULD be funny to see a paladin steal stuff
I don't think that he'll be able to play it as a Paladin if he's never played Quest for Glory III, unless he does the thing where you import an incomplete hero from VI into VI. :P
He doesn't, unless you become a paladin. If you become a paladin, he speaks for you and actually gives you Soulforge, his flaming sword. Otherwise, no, Rakeesh says nothing.
If you're playing the CD talkie version, then yes, it has speech, but we'll be playing it in text mode so we can do the voices. Otherwise there wouldn't be much point in doing a voice-commented Let's Play. :)
The fighter kicks over a candle to break the spell (or he can throw something at a candle), then just runs right through the burning brazier and pushes Ad Avis out the window. As usual, the fighter's solution is the most direct.
you probably don't care now but you can become a paladin with ra'keesh at the end... it would explain the 7 points
