He forgot the "sticksound" you know what I mean...... check out tutorials on youtube and you will see the effect and I promise that it makes the sonk 2 times harder. (:
1:34 drum fill is weak...i play it better and i dont even play drums...u were also off time alot but that understandable in this song...other than that u did a great job
either he is late with bass pedal or is adding in way too many hits with it i know for a fact bonham doesn't play the bass drum like that in this song
@007porridge No, open handed is for left handers, and in fact THAT is better. it allows more movement around the kit a lot more easily, and with the right hand on the ride, the hands will be more even in strength.
it gets a Tad sloppy at times but otherwise this is a great performance. and by sloppy i mean a little out of time but this is a hard song to stay in time when there are no cues for when to came back in
Oh shut up. How ignorant can one person be? It is all about personal preference. At the time I played open handed because I felt more comfortable that way with the songs. We learn both approaches for "situations like these."
It's not about the kit being balanced, it's about your body and playing being balanced. It improves your left hand's ability. You can also move your right hand around the kit more. Trying to play the toms while playing the hi hats in a cross handed approach is difficult, but in the open handed position, it is easier. Sometimes I play Open handed. Sometimes I play cross handed. It all depends on the feeling I am trying to achieve for the song. My students learn both approaches.
Its good to learn both approaches, look at Dennis Chambers. That man is a damn monster and he learned both ways, it truly allows you to coordinate yourself on so many other levels. I hope your teaching your students to play more than covers though. If you wanna see my drum teacher search "Randy Gallerin" on Youtube, a 20 minute video from Gospel Chops should pop up.
Yes, my students learn all styles, songs, and approaches. These songs were the student's choice for the Summer Workshop. I will checkout your teacher's video. Thanks for the comment.

Not trying to be a nit picker, but that's way too much bass. Cool that he can do that with one foot, but it doesn't sound right at all.

Great drumming-just don't get why you play open handed.

What's that with keeping that pedal against the head?
And can someone tell me why everybody thinks it is so interesting to know the age of the 'drummer'? Who cares.

is he looking at a tab? if he is, lame!
nahutabnahutab 3 years ago
No tab! He is reading from the book "Drum Techniques of Led Zeppelin" by Joe Bergamini. Check it out. Great book.
DrumologyTV 3 years ago
Actually that book is the tab(sheet music).
CAFanTom 3 years ago
I guess you can consider sheet music "tab". I ment that it is not tab that you download from the internet. He is reading real drum notation.

why do all these kids on the "Drumology tv" videos play the hihat with their left hands
esplatch 4 years ago
It is called "Open Handed". It is a more relaxed and balanced approach to playing. Try it. You might like it.
DrumologyTV 3 years ago
its not exactly balanced when most of the kit is to the right side, so ur left hand is limited unless there's more to your left
