"To put this in perspective, if Newton played a pirate from Boston, we'd all be imagining pirates shouting "wicked pissah" as they boarded enemy ships."- Cracked
Robert Newton was and still is the best pirate, some said he over acted in these parts but i say how many pirates based on a book embelshed by the aurtor have they met.He will always be Long John Silver to me.
Many thanks for this! My kids all love the Muppets and Treasure Island and I told them Robert Newton started it all. I also seem to remember Tony Hancock dropping into Long John Silver mode at any excuse. Does anyone know when Newton first played the role on screen? (presumably this is a series based on the original film).

I had the album recording of this movie as a kid. Robert Newton's accent is still burned in my mind as what a pirate should sound like.

@Afs189 Then how is this clip here in widescreen when the dvd I have of it is in full?

Happy 106th birthday, Robert Newton. My one true love and the greatest actor who ever played a pirate.
My god, I have this movie on DVD, but I want THIS one badly. Widescreen, much more clearer than ever. Where can I find it?!

@ClassicalWorkbooks Newton first played Silver in the 1950 film version of Treasure Island. It was Disney's first live-action film.
