I have RS version 2, like you, for Latin and voice recognition varies from very good to very poor. There are some sentences I repeated for 10 minutes without getting even close to the green area.

@poshko41 For much less money you can get the Pimsleur Conversational Chinese and the Assimil Chinese couse. The Pimsleur is audio only but very effective for learning to listen and speak the laguage. Assimil gives you audio, Chinese characters, and pinyin.

Also, a site called Live Mocha has exercises similar to Rosetta Stone. You can also get your writing and speaking reviewed by native speakers. I tried it for French it's very good and free!

Rosetta Stone's prices are god awful, almost as bad as photoshop and any other adobe software (adobe might as well hand them out for free, considering that everyone just torrents it or uses GIMP) they should learn, if anything from Adobe, PC software+high prices = every copy is pirated.

I have never tried Rosetta Stone to learn a language, but I did some research and have doubt about their products.

I heard 2 Chinese sentences in this video:

"Na Ge Nan Ren Zai Pao" with decent pronunciation and somewhat correct grammar.

"Na Ge Nan Ren Zheng Shui Xia Lai" with strong accent and a very awkward sentence pattern. (Grammatically correct, maybe, just I've never heard any native Chinese speakers said that in my life.)

Mandarin is my native language by the way.

I got RS Japanese a couple weeks ago and it's great except I have to speak loud and clear and deep for it to recognize the words, also when I say sentences that have "imasu" at the end, it recognizes EVERYTHING "kare wa hashitte wa imasu", except the Imasu, why not? I'M SAYING IT PERFECTLY CLEAR, DAMN YOU, I WANT FULL 100% SCORES :(.

But the voice recognition isn't that important, chinese people will still understand.

@VaderGaming my boyfriend had a problem with "imasu" and "desu"... so i joined him one day and listened to how he was saying it. He wasn't holding the "s" long enough and he was still pronouncing the "u". if you're having the same problem as him you may want to try saying it like "imass" or "dess"

that was freakin hilarious. I got rosetta stone v3 japanese a couple of weeks ago, and at one point I was surprised at one of the screens and said "what the F---?" which the program recognized as the perfect pronounciation of 'hi'. works for 'na', 'u' and a couple of other short phrases too. speech recognition definitely just a novelty.
