Probably not enough room in a single Youtube comment so I'll try multiple, keep it short.
When Diamond and Pearl first came out, I remembered the fun of the Red and Blue days so I bought both of them. Ended up filling Diamond and needing more space so Pearl became a permanent storage. Bought another Diamond and Pearl pair to be resettable whenever I wanted to play through.
Family gave awesome birthday present of Japanese Pokemon Colosseum Bonus Disc, including Japanese Pokemon Colosseum and Japanese GameCube. I bought Japanese Ruby and Emerald to trade with it (GBAs aren't region-locked but the GameCube is.) In case Japanese and English GBA games couldn't trade, I bought a Japanese Diamond and Pearl pair. (Turns out I didn't need them for this but they came in use later...)
My Pokemon Ranch is released in Japan, I buy another Diamond + Pearl pair for the US release of MPR, fill them with Magikarps. The two games hold 1000 pokemon so I can now get that MPR Mew whenever I want.
At that point, I have 4 each of Diamond and Pearl. I also have some experience playing the Japanese versions of these Pokemon games. (Colosseum, Emerald, Diamond, and Pearl.)
Pokemon Platinum is released in Japan ; I import it (receive it before release date!) via PlayAsia and can play thanks to previous Japanese games. Since there's already a Japanese update for MPR to support Pokemon Platinum, I simply buy three copies of Pokemon Platinum when it comes out here in the US. (A Main, a Resettable, and an MPR.)
wow, you could open up a store!

I thought it was okay ; I enjoyed it. However, it definitely wasn't spectacular enough for me to say it's definitely a must-buy.

@Davy2612
It's an interesting guess, but not quite. :)
(It's mostly just to have as many copies of HG and SS as I have copies of Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum.)

In short, to match Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum.
Otherwise, it's a long story...

@Gigafrosty Please give us the long story. I'm interested.

Since D/P/Pt are 4 each, I do the same with HGSS.
The End? :)
