Well, this was a pretty weakened field, so they won easily, and in 1980 with the Americans out, this pair which was favored for third, won silver t here.
@bemar1972 With the exception of Tai Babilonia and Randy Gardner who landed the 2A in 1977 and 1978. I wonder if Tai's maturing body was the reason why they never performed that move in their Long Programs in 1979 and 1980...
@TheSienna29 did you see original axels in different direction? 2A side by side? TRIPLE AXEL twist? very difficult 7 lifts, incl. three one-hand overhead? and all other elements? So that was the reasons to his gold medal here!
1:05 This Throw 2A entry was typical of Stanislav Zhuk pairs. However, if you look closely, she isn't really touching the ice after the waltz-jump-like approach. In essence, he is throwing her without her own use of the forward leftside edge.

Бабилония и Гарднер рядом не стояли - после провала на Олимпиаде в Лейк-Плесиде они уже не участвовали в соревнованиях

For american and canadian pairs 2A side by side was impossible also 8-10 years later (for example at 1988 Olympics)

One of the weakest pairs I have ever seen. No personality, artistry or power in their skating, How in the world did they win an Olympic silver medal?
