the bus drivers on first are wankers, i've seen them drive off when a passenger has actually knocked on the door of the bus to let them in and given them a rude sign, the only reason I use first buses is because they are more reliable than wessex red (this is in Bristol)

I'm a long distance coach driver and the bus driver here is totally in the wrong for the width he allows when passing, however wether its 1 or 2 lanes you shouldn't have passed him on the near-side as he is taking both lanes due to the length of the vehicle (thats 1 reason cyclists get knocked off) and secondly as a professional rider you shouldn't vent your opinion/anger at the driver it amounts to road rage and 1 day, fiming or not, you may say something to the wrong driver!!
No Point shouting at the bus driver, they are all fucking foreign now, can't under stand a word you are shouting through the bus doors and probably doesn’t even have a real drivers licence. If he did, he probably wouldn’t know how to read it.
By the way, a lot of drivers get surprised how fast my 60cc motorized bicycle gets up to speed. Usually at traffic lights it's apparent that car drivers are displeased that a cyclist is in front of them and they make plans to overtake. Then I just blast away and a conflict point never occurs.
It's become clear to me that the faster you go, the fewer the cars that will have a potential problem with you. Apart from that, a motorized bike is at times quicker than a scooter in city traffic.
Situations like these piss me off as much as you. It's unfortunate that even when you ride at traffic speeds car drivers get the urge to pass you.
Ever since I mounted an engine to my bicycle I've greatly reduced the number of such situations. I usually ride at 30+ mph and the cars passing me are a lot less than before.
I guess that you ride a bicycle for the sake of riding and physical exercise but you still might be interested in this idea.
i find it unbelievable there are people on here who defend the bus driver. He is driving a 5(?) tonne metal vehicle INCHES from another human being sharing the road. The people who defend this sort of driving have obviously never ridden a bike on the road and have this happen to them. Its terrifying sometimes sharing the road with drivers who are so ignorant.

I have had a very similar thing happen to me. I was cycling home from work and a bus overtook me on a straight road. Passing a traffic island. it caused a bottle neck and I was nearly hit by the buses back end. I'm not quite as calm as you and I chased the bus with the intention of putting the driver of the bus as close to pain and injury as he had me. Lucky for him no passengers were getting off. As for some of the coments about road rage, these people should try riding a bike on uk roads.
This driver obviously took ecstacy the previous night in the arches and was still in the digital zone....most firstbus drivers ar either alkies or weekend druggies.....they are scum
This happened to me in Dublin in pissing rain. Thought it was going to be close until the bendy bit came past. Then I thought I was dead. A dip in the kerb saved me but only just as I was side on with it and it wasn't completely flush. Swear the bus' rear wheels were 1ft from the kerb by the time it passed. and the beauty of it? He stopped to let passengers on 30yards up the road. I kept him at the stop long enough to take a photo of his reg. He didn't know what I was so upset about :)

Something similar happened to me too. In my country we drive on the right side. I was minding my on business and then a bus was driving near me faster than the driver in your video. If the bus driver would've hit you, you would hit the grass, if the bus driver hit me, i would have hit parked cars.

Roads are funded from general taxation and council tax - the additional tax on motoring doesn't even cover the costs, although it may, when we reach £3.50 per litre.

I'm a long distance coach driver and the bus driver here is totally in the wrong for the width he allows when passing, however wether its 1 or 2 lanes you shouldn't have passed him on the near-side as he is taking both lanes due to the length of the vehicle (thats 1 reason cyclists get knocked off) and secondly as a professional rider you shouldn't vent your opinion/anger at the driver it amounts to road rage and 1 day, fiming or not, you may say something to the wrong driver!!

By the way, a lot of drivers get surprised how fast my 60cc motorized bicycle gets up to speed. Usually at traffic lights it's apparent that car drivers are displeased that a cyclist is in front of them and they make plans to overtake. Then I just blast away and a conflict point never occurs.
It's become clear to me that the faster you go, the fewer the cars that will have a potential problem with you. Apart from that, a motorized bike is at times quicker than a scooter in city traffic.

Situations like these piss me off as much as you. It's unfortunate that even when you ride at traffic speeds car drivers get the urge to pass you.
Ever since I mounted an engine to my bicycle I've greatly reduced the number of such situations. I usually ride at 30+ mph and the cars passing me are a lot less than before.
I guess that you ride a bicycle for the sake of riding and physical exercise but you still might be interested in this idea.

i find it unbelievable there are people on here who defend the bus driver. He is driving a 5(?) tonne metal vehicle INCHES from another human being sharing the road. The people who defend this sort of driving have obviously never ridden a bike on the road and have this happen to them. Its terrifying sometimes sharing the road with drivers who are so ignorant.

You have a point, but I'm getting a little sick of seeing these on Youtube. I mean cyclists who aren't even going anywhere, but go out with a camera rolling just waiting for incidents like this to happen for the sole purpose of complaining about it. I wonder if I'd get looked upon favourably by the police for filming while I'm driving? People piss me off everyday out on the roads -including cyclists - but I can't film them. It happens, that's life on the roads. Quit with your silly agendas.

And as for waiting for incidents....if you cycle 115 miles a week, you'll find that they happen from time to time, without the need to look for them.
Oh and I and the police have no problems with car drivers filming. You can buy specific cameras for the purpose that have g-force detection and GPS tracking.

But if your total toss pot of a driver it can make ur premium go up too.

I have had a very similar thing happen to me. I was cycling home from work and a bus overtook me on a straight road. Passing a traffic island. it caused a bottle neck and I was nearly hit by the buses back end. I'm not quite as calm as you and I chased the bus with the intention of putting the driver of the bus as close to pain and injury as he had me. Lucky for him no passengers were getting off. As for some of the coments about road rage, these people should try riding a bike on uk roads.

This happened to me in Dublin in pissing rain. Thought it was going to be close until the bendy bit came past. Then I thought I was dead. A dip in the kerb saved me but only just as I was side on with it and it wasn't completely flush. Swear the bus' rear wheels were 1ft from the kerb by the time it passed. and the beauty of it? He stopped to let passengers on 30yards up the road. I kept him at the stop long enough to take a photo of his reg. He didn't know what I was so upset about :)

however... once again you chase after it, trying to get the driver to react too your shouting...
highway code states clear that cyclist shall not pass a bus on the inside while it is turning... you could clear see the bus was turning and went up the inside anyway...
again yes blame on the driver, but the ROAD RAGE issue keeps coming up... be the bigger man... keep your mouth closed... that way I'd be saying you where 100% in the right...

No chase, I caught up. Also there are two lanes on approach to the roundabout. I just entered the other lane. the bus was turning right (no other way for it to go in this area).
So I assume you will report me for this one as well? The company didn't see a problem with my behaviour....

Before you criticise, try riding a bike in traffic, you will change your views very quickly if you get onto the other side of the fence.
The bus was clearly, absolutely , in the wrong, no question, can't see how you can argue otherwise.

Something similar happened to me too. In my country we drive on the right side. I was minding my on business and then a bus was driving near me faster than the driver in your video. If the bus driver would've hit you, you would hit the grass, if the bus driver hit me, i would have hit parked cars.

You have to pay a vehicle license tax though. For a single decker bus I think it's around £300 pounds. It's more expensive for a double decker.

The only thing, the ONLY thing, which without fail scare the bejeesus out of me when I'm on my bike is when I hear a bus behind me. Although the worst was a national express coach overtaking on a blind left-hand bend, I actually touched the kerb attempting to get out the way, and the rear corner was not more than 25cm from my handlebars. I nearly cried.

you show your ignorance of safe cycling here. you cycle up the inside of an articulated vehicle at the roundabout. what if that bus had moved, you would have been under the wheels and that wouldn`t have been the fault of the bus, it would have been yours. you are a glaring example of why cyclists need to be licenced before they are allowed on the road.

@KostaJCW I rather doubt the bus pays road tax - there is no such thing, and hasn't been since before WW2.
Roads are funded from general taxation and council tax - the additional tax on motoring doesn't even cover the costs, although it may, when we reach £3.50 per litre.
