At 2:11 in the video it shows the car tire not all the way on top of the ramp. Very unsafe! Please make sure the tires are where they should be on top of the ramp so there isn't a chance of the car coming down.
Simple and direct. Going to try it on my Chevy Cobalt which uses the same engine. Not like the other tutorial I watched where the guys changing the oil were complaining on how the car and the engine was junk.
@m3chan1zr Glad it was helpful. I get 37 MPG on my commute (mostly highway). I couldn't be more pleased with its economy. I highly recommend getting a model with ABS however. The standard brake/tire combination is dicey in the rain if you have to make a panic stop.
Mine only has 2 wheel abs. front disc and rear drum brakes... I couldn't find the one with all the stuff I wanted in it. The salesman said that 2009 was the last year they were making the cobalt so it would be nearly impossible to find one with all the customizations. Guess what, they have a 2010 model that looks exactly the same. :/
good vid! another way to reset oil life is put the key in the ignition to the run position with the car off and floor the gas pedal 3 times. it will also go back to 100%. once again, very good video for those wanting to do their own maintenance. im sure it will help a lot of people
the oil filter on these cars is retarded, I have changed oil myself my whole life since I was 12 and when I bought this oil filter for my Ion the first time I thought it was a mistake, I had to look up how to install it. Thanks
Someone asked about gaskets: the new paper element has a small NEW o-ring on it--they come that way. The large o-ring on the plastic cap is re-usable. You may have to replace that large o-ring once in 5 years or never--it depends how it holds up. That o-ring, of course, is extra.
Pretty good job. Theres only one thing I suggest though. I dont mean to nag or anything lol. I would have done was put down a long wooden plank in front of the ramps to prevent them from moving as you drove up on em You would have been able to move up further on the ramps without them sliding.
Ahh i sound like I'm nagging :( Sorry just trying to give a couple of safety tips. I've had a car fall while I was under it.
Ill message an example of the ramps to you. 5 star vid btw
THANK YOU! I'm going to change my oil for the first time and now I know exactly what I need =] Quick question though, where do you put the used oil that gets drained out of your car?
There's a program in my area run by the county where you drop it off. Sometimes a Walmart, Autozone, Pepboys or other retailer will accept the used oil.
Thank you for posting this video. I just bought a 2009 Chevy Cobalt and needed to know where the oil filter was. Excellent video...very very informative. Thanx again.
This is the same engine as the Saturn ion right?

This helped me immensely. A 32mm oil filter wrench? Who would have thought...

Sure! Why we have to pay over 4 bux for it...not cool. It should be much cheaper than the PF47 metal can filter.

you did it 7 minutes. and if you didn't have to hold the camera you could do it in 5 even. that's the easiest engine to change oil on.
