  • Is it any wonder we don't want to buy American????? They wanted $900 plus tax? Are you freakin' kidding me? You could buy a new washer for that. Time to go back to vintage top loaders, cause that's freakin' ridiculous!!!!!

I'm truly shocked and thank you so much for this and your other informative videos.

  • How about doing a non-detergent empty machine wash cycle regularly to help keep the detergent rot at bay?

  • My spider looks pretty corroded, but hasn't cracked yet. It is 11 years old. I think the reason it lasted this long is that we are on well water, which means no chlorine or fluoride in the water. This has to be a galvanic reaction that is accelerated by the chlorine content. Whirlpool really should have its ass handed to it via a class action lawsuit for making a design like this.

  • The spider clamp can be ordered online for $50~$90 depending on the model. I suggest replacing the drive shaft gasket at the same time for $10 as it's a such a bugger to get at.

  • Please can you tell me where I can buy the spider clamp for a frigidaire model GLTF1670AS0. Most suppliers do not sale the spider separate. Thanks for your help

  • Sir..what you have there are the remains of the ROSAT satellite.

  • Funny I have my Kenmore HE3 washer (more or less the same as this Duet) over 8 years now and I have never had one single issue with my washer. No F-11 codes no problems at all. What do people do to these washers? Looks like abuse and the use of non he soaps to me.

  • @bettermost Nope, we always used HE detergent. Regular washing of clothes for a 4 person family is not abuse.

  • @bettermost you do know that all the parts you poopooed on your garage floor are 100% completely covered under warranty and you could have called whirlpool like I did today and they would fedex you a new SS wash drum, the plastic outer tub with new bearings pressed in all for free. using non HE detergent or too much HE detergent will make that aluminum spider support weaken. also, keep the drain pump trap cleaned out.

  • Same issue here. My machine was an 18 month old it Sears HE3. I told Sears I was going to launch a social media assault on them and they came out and fixed my machine at no cost to me. It took me many months & many calls to resolve this. I suggest you call your local television station consumer reports reporter and tell them your story and send them a link to this video. This problem is not isolated to a particular machine and its not a bearing problem. The problem is Galvanic Corrosion.

  • whirlpool is not a good make anymore never really has been in the uk

  • i really like your video. I called whirlpool and they said they were sending out the parts and the repair man should be here at the same time to repair. Our washer was purchased 2-14-06 and has had only 1 problem which was the f-11 error code which they fixed with no problem(still under warranty) The only draw back is that the warranty is still good from the time of purchase to 10 years. All new parts warranties will run out at the end of the 10 years. Except for the stainless steel tub lifetim

  • pittysnstreetkittys- I actually spoke to two individuals. The first told me that the stainless steal drum was covered but the tub was not covered and he arranged for the drum to be sent out. I didn't like that answer as I was sure the tub was covered for 10 years so I called back the next day and spoke to a women. She agreed it was covered and sent the tub. It helped that I had the washer registered. Call customer service @866-698-2538. Be persistant. Good luck!

  • @amortelliti - Thanks but....too late.....but I must say, the stainless steel drum makes an awesome $1200 firepit at the camp and a great conversation piece.

  • I totally agree crap!!!!!!!!

  • In my case both the warranty statement in the user manual and the local authorized service center indicated that it was past the warranty period. Perhaps they've changed their warranty due to all the complaints.

  • Had the same problem after 5 years. Was pretty upset about it. Called Whirlpool. Turns out the drum has a lifetime warranty. They sent me a brand new drum and tub as that was damaged also and has a 10 year warranty. Didn't even have to raise my voice. They sent someone to put it together and I am good to go. Total cost- $0.00. Not happy it is designed poorly however at least they stood by their product.

  • @amortelliti - hi- do you have the name of the person you spoke with with phone number. My washer just broke. It feel apart on the inside ughh. Please help. Thank you

  • Thank you for posting this! Exact same thing happened to us. Unbelievable... What does the Bosch use instead? Did you consider a Speed Queen? Just terrible, thank you for taking it apart and figuring it out for all of us!

  • Damn, that is very unfortunate man, I am a top-loader fan and always will be. Hopefully ya got something better.

On a side note, your voice sounds very similar to mine! lol

  • We used nothing but HE detergent.

  • This happens if you do not use HE detergent.

  • This video had me shaking my head. After five years of moderate usage, this is virtually identical to how mine looks. I called a service outlet for repairs, described the symptoms (sudden onset of vibration, scraping & grinding noises, then a loud squeal and snap), and informed the serviceman I found a 14" long curl of plastic from the outer housing in the clothes tub. He said parts alone would be in excess of $600-800, recommended I do what he did-replace it with a top-loader. CAVEAT EMPTOR!

  • miele!!!! is the only one that garantee working for 20 years or more or at least 10,000 hrs of hard job. and plus olny useone tbs of detergent for 10-13 lb of load. great!!!

  • Most front load machines are expensive pieces of crap. I have a Frigidaire Gallery front loader that takes forever and day to decide if it wants to do a final spin, doesn't use enough water. plastic door handles on both the washer and dryer have broke off. I'm going back to my vintage Maytag 806 from the 70's clothes get cleaner in a shorter amount of time, and it's dependable. I don't care if it's a water hog or not.

  • @jkalin196511 I agree with you 100%!!!

  • @Chris242tt Who did you call? Mine is in pieces. What phone #.

  • hi I've just finished doing the exact same job (disasembly) of my 5 year old whirlpool to find the fault and it was the spider that had cracked , i'll put more thought into buying another machine.

  • I bought a Bosch.....but only because I couldn't afford a Miele...if money wasn't an issue I would have bought the Miele ($4000+).

  • So what was the new washer you bought?

I heard the top of the line is Samsung, what have you heard?

  • Just bought a new Whirlpool Duet Sport HT set last week.

As I understand now a day they do not make washer or dryers to last.

If they make them to last for 15 -20 years they would lose a lot of money.

(Sad story for us) Smart for them...

  • Every single solitary American front loader use the aluminum spider on stainless steel drum. All of them! I have the EXACT same machine you have. Mine is 5.5 years old and still works fine. I know someone who has the first generation duet from 2001, it's nine years old and still works. I realize the metals are mismatched and they shouldn't do this. I think a lot of it has to do with water, suds that speed the corrosion process up. There should never be visible suds in these type of machines.

  • Galvanic corrosion
