  • I have a brother who lives abroad and I can feel for him being away at this time of year. Brave new start for this brand and I hope to see them evolve even more. To be fair, I think the singles tell the stories better than the full montage. Maybe a bit too optimistic to try and cram so much together. However it's still uplifting in feel at the expense of clarity. My favorite mini stories are the guy in India and the chinese boy. Wonderful character choices.

  • I believe its always better to have adverts which has deep family values or other morale values during the festive seasons.. why not? festive season its about family anyways, and its only once a year... the advert company who got Petronas job nowadays always try their best to shy away from touchy adverts. why oh why?? Are they trying not to emulate Yasmin's legacy? Is our community abundance of morale values already?? Just my opinion for Petronas adverts since few years recently.

  • the message is really simple. 'coming home'. but this time petronas has taken it into the international level. it does not feel a lot closer to home. don't get me wrong but i prefer a home version of ads, where i can understand the feelings of my fellow Chinese during the celebration. like the 2011 ad, that is Home to me. but still this year ad is good too.

  • cont- is an important occasion. Think people are looking for something more meaningful. Think they can't identify with the characters in the ads. They feel like foreigners. Think people feel they have lost something that belongs to Malaysians.sob is not what they are looking for but something they can connect with. A breath of fresh air is good but this ad didn't cut it.

    couldn't agree with you more!...this ad lacks creativity & above all the human touch. After all, festivals are about family bonding!

  • I went to watch Yasmin "Greetings" spot again. Personally, I feel that it's two different approach, Yasmin's was more into storytelling, while the latter is more about capturing an overall sentiment. Both are equally good. Weird thing is, I used to hear people complained about Petronas's festive ads being too sob-by including last year ad, now there is a breath of fresh air, but they want the sobby ad back.

  • Simple yes but too simple. What is the point when the message doesn't connect with the people. The negative response speaks for itself. Petronas has finally lost its SOUL. It's clear the people responsible for this don't know what they are doing. It's a great shame that we have lost the originality of what was created over the past that have moved our nation. I don't see Petronas ads intention is to just make us cry but to spread a message that strikes a chord and makes us better people. CNY is

  • 1. While I appreciate the Petronas commercials of years past, I don't think I'm the only one who thinks that this message is much less patronising. The message is simple, sweet, elegant without having it emotionally blackmailed or beaten repeatedly into one's head. I don't need someone emotionally blackmailing me into how I should and shouldn't feel. Kudos to Petronas for this breath-of-fresh-air commercial!

    2. There are more ways to view a commercial as good without having to "end up crying."

  • I wonder if people are that thick that they really can't "see the message" in the ad. I think it's a pretty decent ad;the message here really shines through. The common traits shared among the Chinese who are scattered around the world: hard work, no self-pity and strong family values can be seen in the video. It also captures the essence of the Chinese New Year reunion "coming home" dinner at the end. I say it's brilliant!

  • Brilliant Message from Petronas. Watch it wisely guys. Somehow, this video showing us the condition of Chinese people in Malaysia and some other countries. Moral of the story, always be grateful of where you are.

  • Agree, it's hard to understand the message until the last few seconds (duhh), you don't need to try too hard Petronas, just keep it simple and meaningful like they used to be, honest critism :)

  • @BuyaTheDreamer Yes, Petronas puts a lot of effort into these adverts every year but they lack a certain empathy and emotional attachment to the audience which Yasmin was so great at bringing together. I don't need six when one will do.
