@Jotrum I can agree with you that the SP scores were very surprising. It is true that without jumps, figure skating is not much of a sport but a performing art. In ice dancing, Evan wins until someone who can express emotion in their skates comes along.

@Jotrum No, giving Joubert bronze instead of silver at Worlds was insulting. He was able to both perform a quad and skate the rest of his program well. Plushenko's Olympic long program was less than spectacular, in fact his jumps were sloppy, and that made all the difference.

Jumps are the most difficult elements, but the world of figure skating does exist without them. It is called Ice dancing. You seem to forget that the majority of a program is not jumping, but skating.

Plushenko didn't do his program like it was planned... he had planned to do a 4-3-3... but only managed a 4-3, so that's where he gave away his advantage on technical level...

and to tell the truth... i have yet to see a 12 yr old girl perform the way Evan did...

i'm sick and tired of people saying Plusenko (spelled his name wrong) should have won because he took risks.. yeah, sure he was daring and impeccable himself, but if you're going to take such risks then you make sure you land them perfectly and cleanly.. you don't just win the event just because you took the risk even though your landing was satifactory.. Evan skated wonderfully and cleanly which is why he deserved it.

Evan doesn't look more beautiful than Plushy, he's got a rodent face. his performance is a way boring, because there's nothing to catch an eye - no complex elements, no intrigue, just a robot like sequences without any passion. New scoring system makes life easier for skaters of his level. He's aware of his inferiority, he should train jumps not only hands movement.

Evgeny is a tremendous athlete and skater...but his program was not nearly as difficult or artistic in the free skate...his short was great, but he had several GOE errors during the F.S. while Evan's program was more difficult (not just looking at the quad here) and more artistic and more polished. Evan earned his Gold Medal and Mr. Ploshenko earned his Silver Medal---both amazing talents and should be congratulated!

Figure skating is a sport when one considers the athletic prowess it takes to jump at least five - six feet in the air, spin and land on one foot on a blade that is about a quarter of an inch thick.

It falls into the dance category when the skaters perform the foot work on the ice.

Judging Figure Skating is a joke however. Supposedly unbiased judges always have their favorites and thus will always weight the scores to their favorite skaters benefit.
