"i dont want a bag i want a big one" - what bitter-sweet lyrics and music this band does, up there with the byrds, lennon, reed, painfully beautifully fantastic. just hope shack, mick, or john will be touring soon.
first heard this on trigger happy tv in the late 90s , what a waste of talent - suppose Blairs focus on ££££ saw this these less media friendly guys be upstaged by likes of radiohead , blur , oasis .....
This is chillingly accurate modern folk. I love this song and it always gives me the old goose-bumps, especially live. The great touch on this record is Templeton's tap-tapping of the cymbal at 2:25, like the desperate hand on the door knocker it cuts right through the song.
I'm moving to Kenny pretty soon so I really hope things have improved since the song was written. Last time I strode there it looked ok, businesses still looked run down though, I wonder where all the regeneration money is going, I could see people doing repair work on houses but it still looked quite rough, anyway it's a boss song, hope I'll see them on the upcoming Oasis tour or on their own, great band that shouldn't be in any band's shadow :)
The short answer is the area hasn't been vastly improved with the Regeneration money. It still looks run down and I wonder if the regeneration was aimed at the people who live in Kenny or for the benefit of those who drive through the area on their way out of the city centre.
I still love the area and there are plenty of good people here but the feeling of community is somewhat being dilluted with lots of family homes being made into flats for students etc.
Cheers, mate:)Actually I'm a student myself that's why I'm moving there. I suppose most of the homes have been made into student flats because they are cheap and close to Liverpool University. It's sad to see these communities reduced to crime ridden areas with youths that have nothing better to do than throw stones and cause anti-social behaviour, too bad the regeneration money meant for Liverpool are almost entirely spent on the docks like this is really going to make a change for the people.
I tell you what's rally been bad for the area - Riverside Housing Association buying up houses, then letting them to scumbags. This has certainly been the case where I'm from (Albany Rd). I take the view that having a student population in the area is a positive thing. Takes the accent off the smack/crack-head population.
