Adapted from a November 9, 1950 radio script, and originally telecast on January 31, 1952. Barney Phillips initially replaced the late Barton Yarborough as Joe Friday's partner on radio and TV, but Barney sounded too similar to Jack, and he was soon replaced by Herb Ellis [who played "Sgt. Olivas" in this episode] as "Officer Frank Smith" (then, Ben Alexander).
This is a syndication print, thus the title "Badge 714."

Very powerful, very moving. I'm working my way through as many 1950s "Dragnets" that I can find on YT. Now I can see why the show is a classic.
