I have been looking for this movie in DVD for many years with no luck. Very disappointing. It's such a powerful classic. I choke when she has to chose which child will die, just such a gut wrenching scene. Nothing else has ever touched me in a movie as this scene.

Still bothers me that she gave up the girl. It should have been the boy. I can't stop thinking about what happened to the girl even though it's just s movie.
Yes, I also think that's why she chose her boy. It's not explained in the book ( very frustrating). There is also the possibility that she didn't really make a choice but just said a name in her panic. With only a few seconds to make such a choice, you can't really think.
Meryl Streep has said she could only play that scene where she hands off her daughter once...it was so emotional an experience to go thru. We are all indebted to the work of an artist for that scene and her performance are part of movie history.
this video is really beautiful. excellent choice for music :) i can't imagine how was it for sophie. eventhough i think the story isn't real, i believe there were some women who had gone through what's shown in this movie and i must say that they're the strongest women ever. I feel so sorry about all that.
The same as in "Ghost," but released years after. Beautiful song, nonetheless. Frankly, I think it should be honored to be associated with movie, rather than the other way around which is the norm.Meryl Streep is just ... obscenely good at what she does, I suppose.

She's only the greatest actress ever to come to the screen. Did you know she did the scene of the the choice in one take? Only she could do it. Yeah Meryl!

I just saw the movie. The ending was bitter sweet. Sophie's story was heart wrenching. Meryl's acting, well, the Oscar speaks for itself.
