  • WTH would happen if you make a block floating?

  • @Destruidor155 The printer will print it just fine, it's got a clever process where solid objects get held in place by unsolidified "sand" surrounding them. Then when removed from the 3D printer, the sand is vacuumed away and the floating object is left. If you live on a planet with gravity, this floating object falls to the ground.

  • So confused!

  • @The3rdPersonViewer This was just the demo; go to mineways.com to learn more, and watch the video tutorials to figure out how to use the program. Key thing: you yourself don't need a 3D printer to make models, just use a print service like Shapeways.

  • @MrErichaines I understand I did this, but I highlight what I want to be printed and I don't know how to view it or what file to send for them to print.

  • @The3rdPersonViewer This is explained in the second paragraph of the "super-fast quickstart on the Mineways page. Go check it out.

  • it worked perfectly but i tried making a 3d modle of my house and it did, but it also copied all the blocks till bedrock.... anyone help please!

  • @gaeaallard That's surprising, as the default depth is 62. Anyway, use the [ and ] keys to adjust the bottom depth of the volume you're exporting (you'll see "Bottom" change at the bottom of the window). You can also simply use the middle-mouse button to click on a place on the map to set the minimum depth. You can see how this works in my basic tutorial, in my Mineways playlist. Email me if you're still stuck.

  • floating block file ERROR! lol ps thats amazing

  • Mine does work but my texture file is so random like it has all kinds of wierd textures! Why? :(

  • @MrArtholones Hmm, that's odd, I haven't heard of that before. One thing I'd do is try saving to an empty directory, just in case there's some name collision with your save file names. Anyway, please write me and tell me more, and send the .zip file on.

  • @MrErichaines Yeah have tryed that but i can just send you a zip file :)!

  • @MrErichaines

Maybe its a HD texture (:

  • @BinaryLp I'm not sure what you're referring to... Mineways works fine with HD textures, especially the latest version 14, which checks whether the terrain.png file has water and lava textures or not. Note that interactive previewers often don't work well with 128x128 or larger textures, due to GPU texture size limits.

  • this will make penis models revolutionary

  • i got to the point of buying but i cannot buy it or change material when uploaded please help thank you :D have a nice day

  • @EliteCinemaGaming Please check out my basic tutorial on Mineways, you'll find it on mineways.com. Go to about 10:30 into that video and I show how to make the model ready for purchase, how to change the default material, etc.

  • Mine did not create a .png file!

  • @SilentMw3Modz Did it create a WRL or OBJ file? Did you choose textured output? I'm happy to help, but need more information - email me (email link is at the end of the mineways.com page). Another thing to avoid: "non-English" characters, i.e. things with umlauts, carets, accents, etc., over the characters.

  • I wanna make nyan cat or a giant creeper. :D

  • How do I chose what I want to print out?

  • @Knowers100 Read the mineways.com page or watch the basics tutorial. Middle-mouse click to set the depth, right-click and drag to select an area, [ and ] keys to adjust the depth.

  • i cant open up the module in 3D it makes both files but i cant open up the wrl file please help.

  • @lax6991 Go to mineways.com and look for the link for the SAP Viewer Complete - this viewer (free) will display the WRL file pretty well. Make sure you install the "Complete" version.

  • can someone please help when i hit export model for 3d printing it just says that there is no terrain.png file in the same file as minewaves even though i can clearly see that there is one in the same file

  • @TheBravery767 If you're not on the Mac, then the problem might be that you have non-English characters (e.g. Cyrillic) in your directory path. Try installing everything in c:\temp or similar, to avoid this problem. In the latest version you can also choose which terrain.png you want to use - try that out, that might help. If you're still stuck, please email me directly. My email contact info is at the bottom of the Mineways page.

  • how do you change the size of the model on shapeways? srry im new xD

  • @292mario You can't, unfortunately: they don't have a scaling function like the i.materialize guys do. You have to play around in Mineways to get the height you want, but that's easy: in Mineways one of the export options is for you to set a target height, or a target price.

  • @MrErichaines oh thanks, didnt notice those options xD

  • Wow, this is am...OMG A SKYRIM MINECRAFT VID TO THE RIGHT!

Anyways...amazing program, I'm hoping to become an engineer of some sort in the future this looks great to play around/practice on ;D

    (plus it's minecraft...)

  • Kurwa jak on ćlamie!

  • @nukel1ermuff1n Making some more videos, I figured it out: it's one of Camtasia's audio filters doing something weird in trying to clean up my voice-over. Not clicking that checkbox again...

  • @SirLovestain ??? Mineways is open source and free. I don't work for Shapeways. There's no virtual buying & selling here.

  • @MrErichaines do you sell pieces, or anyone else, of their minecraft worlds? I saw currency below 3d models and freaked out. Sorry if I offended you.

  • @SirLovestain I think you're missing the concept: Mineways selects a part of your Minecraft world and lets you print it out. If you have a home 3D printer, print it there for a few bucks of material. If you don't, you can have a printing service like Shapeways print it for you. Yes, atoms cost money. Or you can just make pictures of the model you exported.

  • @SirLovestain I'm upset that people whine about things that have no relation to what is being talked about. If you think the world is full of obesity, cancer, ignorance, and lies, then do something about it instead of venting on youtube video comments.

By the way, thank you very much for this video.

  • @MrCofet Sorry, once more, didn't mean to offend anyone by my post. I was ignorant as to what was going on in the video. But I can say thanks for the mockery, pretty cool way to have a desiccation, I guess.

  • @MrCofet By the way, the way I had understood the video did have relation to the comment I wrote. Money being wasted on stupid things. :) I end here. Sorry MrErichaines

  • This is pretty cool!

  • @xLJKx Shapeways has told me that about 25% of users don't upload the .png file along with the .wrl file. In other words, when you make the ZIP file, you much include both "yourModel.wrl" and "yourModel.png" in the zip archive file. At least, that's my guess. If that's not it, please email me (contact's at the end of the mineways.com page) and I'll help figure it out.

  • Error: cannot read world! [...] You must rename your world. Sorry! i need help please.

  • @tim300199 The whole message is "Error: cannot read world. Mineways has a (dumb) limitation that it cannot read files or directories with non-English characters. You can work around this problem by renaming your world. Sorry!" In other words, take the umlauted characters and whatnot out of your world's name and directory name. I really should figure out how to fix this bug, but in the meantime that's what you have to do.

  • @xLJKx I should clarify that on the mineways.com page - a WRL *is* a VRML file.

  • I don't know what i'm doing, I can't open the chunk i selected into a 3d model, help?

  • @xXKyro I'm happy to help, but I'll need more information. Go to mineways.com, there's a link at the very bottom of the page for my email. Please let me know what you've done and where you're stuck.

  • How do you open a .wrl file?

  • @NoCussingBladeRunner Read the Mineways.com page: use the SAP Viewer Complete, which is free to download.

  • @MrErichaines How do i get the worlds to be open-able? im confused :(

  • @xXSonic64Xx Any world on your computer (either one you started locally, or downloaded, or whatever) is one you can open. Find the level.dat, then just open it! If you're on a multiplayer server, ask the admin for a place to download a copy of the world, or you'll have to ask to have some plugin installed that lets you get a .schematic file (which you have to read into MC Edit - see the mineways.com page).

  • dude do you have the level.dat file for that model?

  • @GFNetworkBeta You can download our world from vokselia.com.

  • @GFNetworkBeta I remember building a giant scale model of Big Ben, We had to shut it down because we forgot to set the permission for Big Ben to not be deleted but i forgot it so i had to start a new world. The last one got a massive grief while we were out.

  • will this eventually be available for mac/linux?

  • @TKOverlord Not from me, but it's open source, so anyone's free to port it. The good news is that Mineways runs just fine under Wine on Linux (Ubuntu), and so should also run fine under Wine on the Mac. I suspect Parallels would work fine - someone want to verify this? Basically, you can run it on any platform if you work a little bit. It's not processor-intensive so should work fine under emulation.

  • @MrErichaines thanks for the info. im in a mac-only household, so it is difficult being a hardcore minecraft fan. when i figure out Wine, then i think ill be just fine.

  • @TKOverlord Let me know what you find and I'll update the web page - I want it to run everywhere, but don't have the time (or a Mac) to go cross-platform.

  • @MrErichaines im going to try it for Parallels, just downloaded demo. it seems easier to use than wine

  • @TKOverlord Excellent! Please do let me know if it works (fingers crossed).

  • @TKOverlord being in a mac-only household is not a good thing. but if you ever want your maps i'll give you the file from one of your maps if you send me the world that you want it from.

  • @iSpawnedThere i wish, but the file size for my world is enormous, like 105 kb/mb. i dont exactly know, but it is took big to send digitally. ive tried it before.

  • @TKOverlord its not to big. upload to mediafire. com

  • @iSpawnedThere Someone made the latest version of Mineways into a Mac-runnable app with Wine - you can now download it from the mineways site.

  • Bordercraft texture pack, right? Will it make a difference when printing, like will your texture pack affect the products look? Great tutorial by the way.

  • @Z13J I've been using a variant of Quandary that I cobbled together, which I call Ancient Roots - find it on vokselia.com. It's lighter than Quandary's current dark earthtones. Really, this early demo doesn't show texture on the model created. I'll be putting up some photos soon showing how texture does and doesn't affect the results.

  • is that paper or plastic?

  • @JAIMEJOEL13 Colored sandstone, actually - check out the Shapeways site for more information.

  • NO SHIT!

  • Awesome my school has a 3d printer I am going to use the shit out of this.

  • Tested sent me.

  • This is incredible

  • that's damn nice :D

  • SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY.

  • how did you preview the file that you exported

  • @minecrafta I used the SAP Viewer Complete, the link for it is on the mineways.com page. That said, a friend should be releasing a prettier previewer tomorrow, if all goes well.

  • i saw your league of legends file,,,, very nice. now i appreciate you more because i know you can use your head to play games. *bro fist*

  • OMG i love this program finaly i can import minecraft into my 3d design programe ^^

  • @Gamezonemachinima Well, in fairness, there's also mc2obj, which includes real geometry for fences and similar. Mineways has a much friendlier interface, but is more focused on 3D printing.

  • @MrErichaines ye but the last i checked mc2obj it was extremely unstable and it could only do a small chunk of the world

  • @Gamezonemachinima I admit to not having pushed the limits of Mineways all that much, either, but it should scale; there are few hard limits in the code (the main ones are the "extra tiles" space for combinations of rails & redstone against various blocks). I just tried mc2obj, thanks for the inspiration. I'd say it's a toss-up on quality: mc2obj is missing newer objects (e.g. gates), there are some artifacts like gaps in cacti, but I like things like geometry for fences and especially water.

  • How big of a model would it be possible to print out?

  • @Davezlunch For the color printer, 15 x 9.8 inches in size (about 190 x 125 blocks, 2 mm wide), but the cost is a dizzying $633.14. Search on the word "expensive" on the mineways.com page for more information on how to keep it cheap.

  • @MrErichaines Thanks for responding so quickly! will do.

  • @MrErichaines please help me i cant open wrl files

  • @heim4439 Aha, yes, I got your email: you need to download the SAP Viewer Complete, or any other VRML viewer you prefer, in order to view the WRL files produced.

  • i cant open wrl files

  • Do you get any income by selling your project to that website?

  • @Vasil7112 No. You *can* mark up the prices for any models you put on Shapeways, that's how some people make a little income. I decided not to bother.

  • @MrErichaines SAP viewer cannot open WRL files. My computer does not call it a VRML in the file description. SAP viewer say "Unsupported file type" How do i fix this?

  • @TheMopia You *must* use the SAP Viewer Complete, not just the "Minimium" [sic] version.

  • @MrErichaines I told you, that your subscribers will grow fast someday. :)

  • Is this project on GitHub? Do you accept pulls?

  • @w1ndwaker1 I plan on putting this all on GitHub in a week or two, once the code has settled down a bit more (and once I learn how to use GitHub!).

  • @MrErichaines i cant open wrl files please help

  • Hello, god.

  • Thats really fantastic, thanks for sharing!

  • When i select my world in mineways all i can see is nothing - just bunch of grey blocks which isn't from game. I changed the terrain but still the same result. World is saved and working perfectly (version 1.0.0). Can anybody say what is the problem?

  • @over9000visitor I've just fixed an important bug that may have gotten in your way. Please give version 1.06 a try.

  • wtf!? you've got the full version of winrar!?

  • @kingofbaja Exactly what I was going to say.

  • @kingofbaja Ha, yeah, I actually broke down and paid for it! Freaky, I know.

  • @MrErichaines A winrar is you!

  • @MrErichaines 7zip for the win?

  • @MrErichaines There are the cracks :)

  • @TheEpicnessBuilder Check out the Flickr pool linked at the top of the mineways.com page; most of my orders have now reached friends and there are a bunch of examples. Textures don't print out all that well, but you can pick out details like redstone wires. I'm so happy these all basically worked and didn't fall apart.

  • does the animation print in a still block (fire, lava and water)?

  • @TheWarBullet Water and lava, yes, I use the terrain.png file's images (which are admittedly not the ones that Minecraft actually uses, but are still usually there). Sadly, the fire texture is not in terrain.png, and I didn't want to write a whole new subsystem to get its textures (wherever it is). Well, normally I *would* write such a system, but I have things I'm supposed to be doing instead.

  • when i export the file theres an error that says ''thers no terrain.png picture in this folder'' but there is a terrain.png for 1.0.0 in the folder (the name of the terrain is ''terrain'' help? :/

  • @MTVcartoon Hmmm, hard to tell from where I sit, though I'm definitely concerned. The important things are that mineways.exe and terrain.png are in the same directory, and terrain.png really is a readable png. Could you please email me the terrain.png file? Then I could give it a try.

  • @MrErichaines email (cant find on mineways)

  • @MTVcartoon Go to the very bottom of the mineways.com page and click on (or hover over) "contact Eric Haines". I look forward to your email.

  • oh my God... Dear Sir, you are my hero. You have been liked, you have been favourited and in a sec subscriptioned. Even if I never use this, I thank you for using your brilliance to enrichen the world we live in!

  • @ikkeheltvanlig Wow, super-kind words. Half the credit goes to Sean Kasun, whose great little minutor mapping program was a huge first step in my own efforts. I'd probably still be working on a mapping UI (and burning out - UI's not my forte) if it wasn't for his efforts.

  • What program can i use to look at my model? Also, can you please give me a link to where i can get it?

  • @ps360gangsta I was just reading on some other YouTube video the comment "no one ever reads the video description" - I'll definitely now add the link in the video itself: mineways.com. You want to get the SAP Viewer Complete, there are multiple links to it from mineways.com. Have fun!

  • Man..... and i get to see this after Christmas

  • @infern96 it is after christmas ...

  • @MrErichaines what's a good program to review the vrml file before uploading it to the website? i downloaded the one you use in the video (SAP viewer) but it says my exported models can't be opened... mineways is great btw, really useful! :D

  • @bazi91 You need to download the "Complete" version of the SAP Viewer, not the "Minimum" version. It should work fine. Let me know if that doesn't work.

  • @MrErichaines Can you post a link to it

  • @pop11123 Read the description. It's mineways.com

  • @MrErichaines No the sap thing

  • @pop11123 The link is on the mineways.com page - YouTube does not allow me to put links in comments.

  • Русский MINECRAFT хостинг

  • @nukel1ermuff1n "The paint! I hear it peeling!" Actually, I know what you mean, and what I can I say? Feel free to send me $100 for an OK microphone; I had a pretty reasonable one but it got trashed by our Roomba. Given that I make videos maybe once every month or three now, buying a new one is not on the top of the list.

  • Architecture from the future, from Minecraft?

  • Cool :)

  • Did anyone notice the model of the eiffel tower is fucked up?

  • @ogbrandon94 What's wrong with the Eiffel? Its proportions are correct, with little mods here and there so we can actually climb it. It's 1:5 scale, as I recall. Or are you just trolling?

  • @MrErichaines The platform where it stands on is bigger on one side.

  • @ogbrandon94 Ah, whew, I thought you meant the Eiffel model itself, which might have pointed to some bug I needed to fix. Yeah, two of the feet of the tower are close to some serious cliffs. I expanded the base in the other directions to get all the walkways intact.

  • @MrErichaines oh, alright. :)

  • Just wanted to confirm that this works on Linux under Wine (I'm using Ubuntu 10.10, most likely the latest version of wine).

This reminds me also of a new Blender plugin that's only been in development for a short time, Mineblend. I've been using it to render some minecraft worlds, but I'll definitely have a look at rendering with this one to compare features and all.

    Thanks for a wonderful program!

  • @JeSuisNerd Including helpful and useful information in a YouTube post? Freaky. Thanks for the Wine test, I'll note that on the page. I do have a link to Mineblend, but didn't notice that that's actually what it's called! I'll fix that.

  • is this free?

  • @Cheekia2 Just go to mineways.com and download. Windows only right now, unless someone wants to port it - it's open-source, so have at it!

  • It’s a free open source WINDOWS program.

  • how much does it cost to print? because i have a awesome large port scene i think would be a great model.

  • @NixodCreations At the Shapeways it will tell you, depends how big and what material.

  • @NixodCreations The main limiter is the "thin wall size". If you have very thin features, they might break off or otherwise disintegrate during the printing process. Search the comments here for "0.7" for more info. If you think your model's safe to print smaller, you simply change the block size to what you like, e.g. 0.35 mm per block in the white material could cut the cost by a factor of 8.

  • so does it print in paper?

I dont get it... or do you order it online and its plastic? im confused with the result.

  • @BseagullMC when you go to the shape ways you can choose what your would like your creation to print as... like plastic or sandstone or steel, etc....

then it makes a 3d model of it for you to buy

  • @BseagullMC a 3D printer basically makes tons of little layers that stack on top of each other. it comes made already. With a 3D printer you can make basically anything. Somebody made a working bike.

  • and what if i want to put a chunk into a minecraft ?

  • @rtebak07 what?

  • @radonas you have taken some part/chunk from map. Can you put that part/chunk into another map ?

  • @rtebak07 yes you can i use mcedit for that just google and go to the forum page its a 3d aditor that can do literally anything

  • @radonas thanks a lot :)

  • MUST BUILD, NOW!

  • I wonder how much you would have to pay for a model of Broville v10. o.e

  • How 'bout you conjure up the Temple of Notch? :D

  • Wow this is pretty insane!

  • what did you use to open the wrl. file??

  • @cartelthebest Nevermind i got it!! i rly need to read more!!! :D

  • For the various full color options, not just sandstone but the others as well, what's the approx scale of 1x1x1 brick when printed? Or does the scale change the larger your selection is?

  • @Rendaylor You have full control over block size, it's part of that scary dialog box. The normal minimum size for the white material is 0.7 mm width per block. But, if you're making something with thick walls, you can go smaller. At a size of 0.7 mm per block, it costs about $1 to print something with 2000 blocks (plus the various fixed costs). For color printing the minimum thickness of walls is 2 mm, so it costs about $6 per thousand blocks.

  • Does it let you export as .blend?

  • @TheScars75 Just VRML97 and Wavefront OBJ currently, two common formats. It's pretty easy (for someone else ;-> ) to add an exporter for another format, and I'd be happy to fold these into the code.
