  • 25 people are not tough

  • Am i the only one who thinks that this song would've made a great rolling stones song?

i can hear Mick Jagger's voice singing this song.

it just got that unmistakable vibe.

  • 25 people need to take the cotton out of there ears

  • girl drummers rock.

  • Bored To Death brought me here, Thumbs up to Yo La Tengo

  • thanx! From Japan

  • Thumbs up if Daniel Caro (loadednewsletter) made you like this song!

  • yay old youtube layout

  • hey, that's the guy from the parking lot movie, good job.

  • This is a very much joyful tune, the kind of music that blows the gray clouds in your day.

  • yellow tango !

  • I have the exact same Fender strap as McNew does in this video

  • Que banda tan buena ,, queremos verlo en lima ... soñar no cuesta nada

  • oh, oh, Bs As!

  • i will see in SWU BRAZIL! YEEEEH!

  • Seen them twice. throw them more than a dime!!!

  • Hell yes, go James! Does anyone else think his voice sounds so much like Neil Young?

  • suenan genial!

  • why is the song named in spanish

    ? ?

  • @alzatefbm the band's name is Spanish. the name of the band is Yo La Tengo, the song is Mr. tough

  • @alzatefbm the band's name is yo la tengo not the song

  • Been listening to YLT for well over 10 years... They're my, "make me smile" band. I love them for the music they've given us. <3

  • viva yo la tengo!

  • actually she's married to ira the guy playing the piano

  • daaaaaaaamn i feel like an idiot i thought she was definately a lesbian

  • Why do you say "but"???

    Besides, who cares???

    great song!!!

I´ll see them in Madrid in two weeks. I can´t hardly wait...

  • :' )

  • uh, delicious song!

    good feel.

  • hey the blue moon you're a fuck

  • Matador rox!! I heard them on a compilation of all of matadors artists and fell in love :) That was like 10 yrs ago!

  • Can't sit still to this.....x

  • Waiting for you guys!!!

  • they can play!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love yo la tengo.. and I think that maybe they've just developed the sound they can call their own. They experimented and they've found something that is really their style. They've matured. :)

  • @MarionChevelk You think so? I think bands like Yo La Tengo, will never feel comfortable doing only certain style. I believe experimentation IS their style.

  • Ira Kaplan's piano solo sounds like a guitar solo :)

  • They used to have an original sound --- Barnaby, Autumn, American Band, etc. Now all their songs are either genre-derivative or sound like something thye've done before. That's why I didn't see them this time around.

  • Couldn't disagree with you more. They have grown as musicians and their last few albums are all super original. Going backwards... "Here to Fall", "Mr. Tough", "Little Eyes"...come on. If anything the Barnaby days were from when they could barely play but they thought music was a fun thing to do. I still think Electro-Pura is their best but I just saw them and they were amazing. Ira told me after the show about how much fun they have been having and it shows.

  • This song cracks me up. Go YLT Go!

  • McNew makes that bass look like a toy.

  • I think it´s a shortscale bass, maybe thats why.

    Great song!!!

  • Comment removed

  • i love yo la tengo

does anyone know if they ever play in scotland?

  • glasgow academy, november 6th

  • James is so woofy (this is a good thing) - and such a pretty voice. :)

  • Yay YLT!

  • Sounds a little like Beck, doesn't it? Great song! Great vid!

  • They have been around since before Beck's time. Not to mention (not to discredit Beck, he's a great musician) they have archieved, in my opinion, a much wider musical range across their career.

  • Entirely agree! Actually I'm a great fan of both! Just found it interesting that maybe they've listened to the same old-school soul records ;-) Cheers!

  • jaja, rolononon

  • ...saw them play this last night at a baseball stadium at coney island...sublime...

  • Saw them a few weeks ago in Detroit. Amazing stuff.

  • coming to my colonge soon, cant wait [:

  • I just love Yo La Tengo !

  • YLT rocks!! :)

  • Wow these guys are really good.

    I dig it.

    Very Guaraldi-esque.

  • Yay! Georgia Hubley! She's awesome.

  • Has a Schroeder/Charlie Brown sound:)

  • I've been trying to place that sound forever. Good call.

  • One of the only Matador bands worth a shit, in the long run. Hooray, Hoboken or wherever, NJ!!!

  • No- Yo La Tengo!

  • That was in response to someone else?

  • than yesterday, cool cow bell song, tri angel rockonbonzo76!

  • I love this band! This song is so good- Vince Guaraldi gets funky! :-)

  • The illest. This is my favorite band.

  • james mcnew is wearing a djx shirt...too badass

  • I wish I got a dime every time I paid for a nickel. : )

  • Si te gusta, te recomiendo a Sinclair (Glew) indie Bs. As.

  • this is such a good song.

  • love it!

  • cool

  • THIS IS FAWKING AWESOME!

  • AMAZING! HEIL YO LA TENGO!!!

  • Hey, that was cool. I didn't know Ira could jam on the piano like that.

  • me gustan, les conozco poco pero me gustan

  • Yo la tengo means ive got it in Spanish.

  • who the heck wrote the description of this video? hahahaha. give me a break.

  • They are the best band of all time. To heck with the Beatles!!

  • YEAH!!! en el manifest de mexico 2007 los abuchearon.. pinches ignorantes!!!

  • como tan weones para hacer eso!!!!

  • If you're not down with Yo La Tengo, it's probably because you don't know any better!

  • Este tema es bravazo (como el mar de sofi)

  • Yo La Tengo

  • YAY!!!!

The current is my station. I'm going to school In Winona now. . .

    Holla!

  • This song, "Mr. Tough" is basically about what all of the pooh butts here who have commented (so negatively) thus far are so deeply afraid of - a real man who will dominate them with his genuine masculinity. All of ya'all should do what you can to appease "Mr. Tough" - before it's too late!

  • lame comment fuckface

  • What do you recommend we listen to?

  • a que escuchas vos? bon jovi? re jevi boludo

    chupate un culo

  • Oh man, please, are you reading what you're saying? You know, you should first go to some spanish classes, if you like it so much. I like Yo La Tengo just because it brings sunshine to the worsts days.

  • no me gusta " Bon Jovi". tu es stupido y nescesito escuhar mas bien musica. Tu gayo senor. Hasta Luego senor Retardo

  • ok., not even I, spanish speaker, had a fucking idea what the hell you tried to say.

  • Give me a break, I'm American...and not of hispanic descent.

  • i'm sorry, it's true it seemed a little offensive.. didn't mean to, it was just to let you know it really is hardly comprehensive..

but no harsh feelings :) bye ;)

  • It's ok. I want to go to Spain and Argentina one day...so I'll have to learn proper grammar eventually.

  • i guess u have to learn english grammar...

"comprehensive"? u must mean comprehensible...comprehensive means including many things...

  • excuse me, i'm not an english native, and by the way, you should learn it too, since the fact of swaping words isn't a grammatical error.

Grammar is only about the structural organization of words and components in a sentence.

that would be an ortographical error.

    sorry

  • that is quite possibly the best coment on youtube

  • haha woah, thank you very much then :) it's quite an honor to read this :)

  • Awesome

  • Ignorance is bliss.

  • Today, 2:00 pm McCarren Park Pool Free Concert....I'll be there...you? In you are in the city, go and see this great New York band.

  • they are from nashville-

  • New York rock scene.

  • Nashville New Jersey?

  • Awesome band man... awesome band.

  • I love what this group does with vocals. Here we have the song "Mr. Tough" employing twin falsetto voices. Who does that, I mean really? Check out the Bop-bop-bah-dahhs on the song "You Can Have It All". Again, who's doing that now? I also like that they can have a LOUD quiet sound, and a QUIET loud sound. It's purely American sturm and drang and doo-wop. I LOVE Yo La Tengo.

  • well, far be it for me to request some brass, fuck you .. yo la tengo fans, the album cut sounded much better!

  • ich find euch klasse jungs!!!!

  • haha i love this fucking song, go yo la tengo!!!!

  • This song is what hooked me on this band

  • Is Night falls on hoboken their best?

  • popularity is 50% band image (unless you're the pixies). but i guess lucky for them at least they're still having fun and making good music, without all the problems with popularity (i'm thinking about jamiroquai and nirvana for two very different cases. but thinking about it, sonic youth is a real bunch of lucky bastards haha)

  • ...says the fatass masturbating to gay porn while skipping out of school.

  • bet you cant wait till the next time some coked out looking punk asses in tight pants and spikey hair try to pretend they're cool by scaring the crap out of your parents....

  • sorry.. i screwd that up its meant for that other guy..

  • barnaby hardly working... :)

  • Such a great, happy song. It will always remind me of my brother and driving wildly through the hills of California.

  • They could have called up someone like Sean Hannity to sit in on tenor saxaphone or something.

  • Just let me add that I was being silly. They are cool but Sean Hannity is not and he would look out of place on tenor.

  • celkem zajímavý

  • this song = GOOD TIMES...if you dont like this song I am not afraid to beat your ass.

  • I guess you meant "gay", but then again, it's obvious you're quite stupid.

  • My ass is ready to take the spanking ;].. lol I really hope you're a girl.. and by the way I love this music.

  • Fits in between Impression's "It's All Right" and Esquire's "Get On Up". Only missing the horn section.

  • maravilloso

  • reminds me of motown a little bit

  • I love the band but they sounded so much alike Belle and Sebastian at some parts...Wich is not bad too...

the sound matters the most, and it's delicious...

  • i think that belle and sebastian sounds a lot like Yo la Tengo, insted

  • neonflair, it's the other way around. yo la tengo was around a decade before belle & sebastian.

  • i don't think they sound like belle and sebastial at all.

    but they sure sound better.

  • I don't think they sound like Belle and Sebastian either. I don't agree they sound better; not that they sound worse, just that both bands are amazingly good.

  • i'd say they are doing something remotely simular to belle and sebastian here, but not "sound" like belle and sebastian, i'd say more like something influenced by the same stuff..in some ways to me yo la tengo's music has been like an amazing interpretation of the most incredible most complete record collection known to mankind. and god i love painful.. a very treasured disc..

  • that's funny, i kind of thought this song sounded like YO LA TENGO.

  • indeed!

i'm not quite sure why my comment was taken negatively, but i still stand by "painful" as one of the greatest american albums of the 1990's

  • belle and sebastian are a lot more "Pretty", most of yo la tengo's work sounds masssively different, but that's what makes them so awesome

  • strangely adddicting. the band is just so normal looking, but yet something else. very fresh sound.

  • i love them

  • "Hey Mister Tough...." Ahh, how I love this song. It's gonna be stuck in my head all day long. :)

  • The bass and piano are so catchy here, great stuff.

  • de lujo!

  • se la rifan estos brothers

  • I'm not afraid of you and I will beat your ass. Great!!!

  • Sweet! Thanks for this.

  • Man, I love this album. More than "I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One" I think.

  • You take that back!

  • Wrong.

  • Hey he has every right to think that.

I love this album better than ICHTHBAO too

  • "Yo la tengo" means "I've got it", just in case your fucking question was fucking legitimate.

  • femenine "it" by the way

  • yo la tengo is great

  • tengo que ser sincero, nunca antes habia oido de este grupo, pero estuve buscando el termino indie y me encontre a este grupo y me llamo la atencion el nombre, busque en youtube y que maravilla de grupo de verdad

  • The Soft Bulletin is sublime, but I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One is just as great (and And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out is pretty close too).

  • Yo La Tengo is awesome! On the Flaming Lip thing...YLT don't have a Soft Bulletin yet. The Soft Bulletin is a brilliant album and one YLT is yet to match.

  • awesome

  • Loool where comes the comparison of FL and YLT anyway...I know about YLT later but I am now far more into them than FL, there's something so touching about them... And I love love love their latest album

  • yeah, no negativity, but democratic disagreement with mr/ms speeding's comment. flaming lips: decent fun party band, yo la tengo: in a different class of noise. no competition.

  • Pathetic, you guys are. Come on! They are two different bands doing two different things.

  • If there's room enough in the world for both Justin Timberlake and Bob Dyland, there's enough for both Flaming Lips and Yo La Tengo.

    Relax and enjoy. Negativity sucks.

  • you really rule man !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Parece que están muy preocupados por el "right" o el "wrong" y por el "Better" y el "worst"

  • loooooooooove!!

  • Yo La Tengo and The Flaming Lips are tied for my favourite band in the world... but I don't see that much of a connection between them? :/

  • i love this song!!

  • yo la tengo eat the flaming lips for breakfast!! they freakin rule!!
