@ziofrenko thanks! I use software amp modeling (mainly Ampeg SVX) because of lack of space & funds to buy real amps at the moment :) But as you heard, it works =)
just a little advice for picking - try alternate picking - upstrokes and downstrokes, it just makes it more comfortable when picking - but great cover and tone man :D
Amazing cover man. I learned this last week and I cant stop playing it.
I'm 'OK' with a plectrum but I only strum down on this song, I feel better playing it like that... more energy hehe.
Also, as I commented on someone elses cover of mr brightside, it does sound so much better with a pick and there's no way that the recorded album version is played fingered or on a double bass like in the video :P.
question here, um how exactly do you tune the strings down one semitone? i've looked everywhere and i can't find how to anywhere..... i've even asked a couple ppl i know who play bass, and they say they haven't even heard of it.... its quite frustrating....
when you move up the fingerboard towards the bridge, each fret is one key up in pitch, so basically to tune down a semitone, you can just put your finger on the first fret, and tune that to E, next string first fret to A, etc for each string, meaning the open string note is in minor key of the first fret. Make sense?
@Zildjiann while it is easier to tune with a tuner, it greatly increases your musicianship to be able to tune by ear, it is the first step of being able to learn by ear. and besides if you cant truely hear what your playing how do you know if it sounds good? and in alot of cases tuning by ear is more practical than having to fuck around with a tuner and wasting your time
Tuning by ear is really only handy in your home. In a studio and playing live you would use a tuner to get the perfect note instead of assuming it's in tune.
I learn all of my songs by ear. It takes a lot longer than reading a tab but is far more satisfying.
@Nevershoutcejay: it's pretty much tuning your strings down half a step, you can get an electronic bass tuner and check if it has semitone tuning or down semitone button.(or something close to that) Mine only cost $15, it's really conveinient to have around.
its good that you will be covering that! so i'm guessing your a killers fan too? =] actually, last year i went to the west coast to go visit the killers manager (ill put it this way, most interesting and nerve racking couple hours of my life)
Wow. That was awesome! I'm not really into The Killers but with your bass part it was very enjoyable! Thats an Aerodyne right? It sounds awesome! What kind of bass does their bass player use?
thanks, awesome bass innit? :) for this cover nothing fancy actually, just 30w combo amp as pre-amp, from headphone port into soundcard's line-in port, and then maybe some software compression :]
@cyberdems yeah i got ma bass :D and shes gorgeous!!!! only thing is shes rreally heavy :P um but it keeps breaking down while ive got it plugged in, like after 20 mins of paly, the amp just randomly cutts off, then jumps back in, so i gotta carry the heavy bugger, (and the HUGE £50 amp which weighs 5 billion times more) back into manchester to get it fixed :/ but wen alls is sorted ill be uplaoding covers soon ;)
Would you mind if I asked your settings for this? I have the same bass. How high do you have each of the pickup knobs up. And whats your bass/middle/treble?
Hey, thanks for the compliment.. I hadn't started using software amp modeling yet when I did this cover, so this was actually pretty simple: The key is to record using direct signal from amp into your soundcard's line-in port. I most likely had all tone knobs on or near full to get lots of bright and deep/soft tone. My amp (acting as preamp) had all 3 EQ knobs (low, mid, high) centered if I recall correctly. I'll let you know if I remember any other specifics. Hope this helps :)
yeah you're right, dont need to tune down for mr brightside, but mark plays in Eb tuning pretty much all the time it seems, so i'm just going to kinda conform for all Killers songs to stay true to the way its originally played :D
The dislike bar is a ninja, it it there but you can't see it...

@NeverShoutCeJay you should use a chromatic tuner, and tune it down to the note you want to be tuned to, that's what i do....
