powerpc chips are old and you cannot match them. My q9550 would beat a ps3 cpu anyday. Just wait till you match up an i7 and a ps3 core. there is somthing you can do. go on kijiji or craigslist. (of your area) and just see what people are selling. somtimes they sell things really cheap. I saw a core 2 duo processor + motherboard for like $100. somtimes u get really cheap things second hand. but other times people sell them for really expensive! so watch out. if u have a 2ghz processor try fining a 3 ghz socket 478 for about $20 max. then find a ddr3 256mb(minumum) graphic card and ull be bassically good to play many games.

thing with dx9 games is that they are very cpu dependent so it might be your cpu limiting your fps. i used to get about 150-170 fps with my 1950pro and a c2d e6600. I now get about 250-300 fps with my 9800gx2 :)

I get more fps on stress test with a broken x1950pro 512mb agp. 121 - 145 fps at 1600x1200 with AMD Athlon 64 2.2 GHZ 512kb L2 Cache and 2 gb of ram. And you can ran BF2 maxed out on a Geforce 6600 GS with a AMD Athlon xp 2800. I could anyways.

If you are running a bunch of processes on your computer then it could help buying 2GB because all the memory won't be taken up. This causes the game to lag.
Safer to get 2GB but it isn't recommended in the PC requirements.

Actually osx leopard can utilize all that ram. With logic pro and 16gb that is one sweet setup. I think that vista only supports like 4 or 8 gb not sure.
Don't go with AGP go with an PCI Express, I have that and compared to my PCI, it kicks ass. I can run HL2 maxed out with only 512 MB of DDR5300 RAM clocked at 633 MHz

ow ok i would say a 8800 but i think they are more the gts version starts at about £160 you could go for a 8600 but if i were you i would get a ati x1950. go onto (overclockers co uk) click graphics and dont chose the (agp and pci) but all the rest will fit, find a price you like
the ati x200 isnt the mobo it is the intergrated graphics. first you need to find out what slots your mobo supports main graphics cards are agp or pci-e. if your mobo has agp then get any agp card and it will work. if your mobo has pci-e then any pci-e graphics card will work. its as simple as that. post the make and model of your mobo if you are having trouble deciding if you have agp or pci-e and i will find out for you. the best agp card is probably the x1950 pro.
you want to play Bf2 at all high settings, all you need is 2GB of ram minimum,,,thats more then enough to play it at max settings.. i have an x850xt and i play it at 1280x1024 at high settings with 4xAA and 16xAF with 2GB of ram and i get about 70 fps on an average so just imagine ur card... (my specs: C2D at 3.6ghz, 2GB XMS2 pc800, x850xt) and that card is better then mine....

damn an e6600 to a 3ghz P4 OUCH! thats a HUGE!!! down grade... 2gigs of ram is more then enough for those games..and so is that 1950 pro...but that processor is gonna hold u back...not enough processing power....you'll be able to play those games at med. to high settings but at low res... if not then those games will struggle to run good with that cpu..which by the way runs frinking hot...

The 8800 will kill the x1950pro card...but with ur 6600 and the x1950 alone with 2GB of ram will run about 80+fps with 4aXX and 16xAF.. i have an e6400 overclocked at 3.6ghz with Zalman 9700, and i play BF2 with my x850xt with 4xAA and 16xAF and i get about 80+fps @1024x768 so imagine ur new machine
i agree with xyoxvietsterx the x1950 pro is amazing for the price i mean it gets more fps on cs:s than ur eye can see so u dont need loads of fps. fps are a only boasting excuse over 66fps.

Don't get an 8800 gtx unless you want to practically buy a new PC. There will be a new graphics card anyway sooner or later so it is a waste, a computer is obsolete every so many months, because there is always something new.

Actually osx leopard can utilize all that ram. With logic pro and 16gb that is one sweet setup. I think that vista only supports like 4 or 8 gb not sure.

your cpu is bottlenecking the card (pentium 4s are really really bad, even back in its glory days, too much heat and netburst = bad architecture).
save up for a new pc.

Don't go with AGP go with an PCI Express, I have that and compared to my PCI, it kicks ass. I can run HL2 maxed out with only 512 MB of DDR5300 RAM clocked at 633 MHz

your video card still rocks ... only your machine is fairly slow .. coz ur video card's bascially doing all the work.. no helps from your other pc parts... so i recommand u either change everything but your video card.. but i prefer u to get the pci-E version.. it is way more faster than the agp ones.. happy gaming

yer i have basically done that now :P i have an e6600 2gb of ddr400(still the slow thing!) and still my x1950.
i get some good results with it, around 150fps on cs:s/hl2. i have just ordered 2 segate 250gb 16mb cache drives. i would have got a wd raptor but they are small. this 500gb setup will be about the same price as one 74gb wd!! with a small decrease in speed:[

hey dude i was thinking about upgrading from my 256 mb geforce 6200 to the sapphire x1950 pro 512 mb. and i was freaking out on what new power supply to get. what power supply do you have ex. the wattage and how many amps on the 12 volt rail/s and is this card good. im buying it for 179.00$ on newegg

sounds a lush price wish i could get it that cheap over here. i have a 400w enermax liberty which i expect isnt enough but it runs it fine with a e6600, 2hdds, dvd drive, lots of fans and 2gb of ram.

ow ok i would say a 8800 but i think they are more the gts version starts at about £160 you could go for a 8600 but if i were you i would get a ati x1950. go onto (overclockers co uk) click graphics and dont chose the (agp and pci) but all the rest will fit, find a price you like

the ati x200 isnt the mobo it is the intergrated graphics. first you need to find out what slots your mobo supports main graphics cards are agp or pci-e. if your mobo has agp then get any agp card and it will work. if your mobo has pci-e then any pci-e graphics card will work. its as simple as that. post the make and model of your mobo if you are having trouble deciding if you have agp or pci-e and i will find out for you. the best agp card is probably the x1950 pro.

you want to play Bf2 at all high settings, all you need is 2GB of ram minimum,,,thats more then enough to play it at max settings.. i have an x850xt and i play it at 1280x1024 at high settings with 4xAA and 16xAF with 2GB of ram and i get about 70 fps on an average so just imagine ur card... (my specs: C2D at 3.6ghz, 2GB XMS2 pc800, x850xt) and that card is better then mine....

yer problem im finding, in my want to keep my agp card a i had to buy a strange mobo so the vcore cannot be changed so i cannot overclock much. i know i can pin mod but i really dont want to do that on something that cos like £120 lol

quick question guys will BF2 run a little better with what i got now,Nvidia 6200 oc 256 mb,512 mb ram 2.35gh and im going to get another 512mb of ram will this make me run better in BF2?

yer run it on low settings and it will be ok. 1GB of ram is really a minimum with the new patches. even though the box says 512mb 1 gb is needed

damn an e6600 to a 3ghz P4 OUCH! thats a HUGE!!! down grade... 2gigs of ram is more then enough for those games..and so is that 1950 pro...but that processor is gonna hold u back...not enough processing power....you'll be able to play those games at med. to high settings but at low res... if not then those games will struggle to run good with that cpu..which by the way runs frinking hot...

yer it does run hot (50c idle!!) but i am just getting a new mobo (Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA) and a e6600 with an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
hopefully i will see a difference!!
what do you think the fps difference would be from a p4 3Ghz to a e6600 and apparently you can overclock to well over 3Ghz per core?

well i dont play FEAR or oblivion but i do play bf2 where i get loosy fps of 15-25 running all maxed 6xAA and 1280x1024 but my new e6600 that arrives tomorrow should bring them up the x1950 pro is brill if you have a agp system as it is the best agp card hands down. im not sure how far it is from the 8800 probably not far i have a his overclocked version which owns and ocz ddr400 ram that i havent been able to test till i get my e6600

The 8800 will kill the x1950pro card...but with ur 6600 and the x1950 alone with 2GB of ram will run about 80+fps with 4aXX and 16xAF.. i have an e6400 overclocked at 3.6ghz with Zalman 9700, and i play BF2 with my x850xt with 4xAA and 16xAF and i get about 80+fps @1024x768 so imagine ur new machine

nobody cares. its a good card for the money, not everybody has fuckign 1000+ to spend on their rig. this also helps AGP users live longer.

i agree with xyoxvietsterx the x1950 pro is amazing for the price i mean it gets more fps on cs:s than ur eye can see so u dont need loads of fps. fps are a only boasting excuse over 66fps.

HELL YEA! 2GB will make a difference in BF2 it did for me...1Gb i played on med.and now i play all high with 4xAA and get about 80fps and it plays fast...(C2D e6400 @ 3.6ghz/2GB DDR2 PC6400/x850xt pci-e\74GB 10k rpm Raptor)

that is cheap! my graphics card was about 1/3 of that lol im sure its my processor bogging me down i might try find a p4 extreme but i think they are rare in the uk for a 478 socket

Don't get an 8800 gtx unless you want to practically buy a new PC. There will be a new graphics card anyway sooner or later so it is a waste, a computer is obsolete every so many months, because there is always something new.

thanks for the reply that clears up that issue i was having and gives me an excuse to buy more ram :) but one thing the 8800 might just fit if it was agp as i have a 2slot x1950 in there but only just as there is only like 1cm gap at the top and to get it in there i literally had to take my little computer apart lol so i think i will get some more ram which would anyone rate the highest: Kingston, ocz, geIl or corsair? also which is best cas2 or cas3

you should get the nvidia 8800 gtx 512mb($600) or i think there is one 612mb. not sure about the 612mb.
