@ImpliedBodyMan That "Its nice and warm now" lyric... at 1.22
I always thought it was... "Smash down the wall now'.
I've checked the net and it says everywhere "nice & warm etc", but it makes more sense to me with the "wall smashing" business after the "revolutions here" line.
I´m German, although I live in Mexico right now. In the ealrly 80s I was one of tthe three Jams fans in my home town: Hamm (North Rhine Westfalia). My mates would love at me, take the micky out of me for loving "such a peculiar band". I still can't understand why people were so dumb in those days....
I didnt know, thanks for the heads up, Last i seen Rick was a furniture restorer working from his garage, His original drumkit was stacked against the wall covered in leaves...
I was back in Aberdeen, Scotland and 15 years old when they broke. Now I live in California, and it still sends shivers down my spine when I hear them. Takes me back to the best days of my life........the mini mod revival of the early 80's, 3 button blazers, stay pressed pants, bowling shoes, and fishtail parkas!
Belta tune, even if it is the studio version. They was much better live. And To the guy proclaiming to be Joe's mate. I am sure if he was alive today he would be thrilled that a fifteen year old lad appreciates his work so much as to name himself after him. He can call himself whatever he wants, its out of respect ntthing else. Although I ssuspect your full of shit and dont know him. So pick on someone a bit older next time, like me.
Is it me, or did Weller borrow the intro from 'Village Green Preservation Society' by the Kinks at 1:58? Very good song though with an upbeat reggae feel.
One of the great string of singles by Britain's preeminent power pop juggernauts. Unfortunately for America, Weller's brazen British accent -- while singing! -- and ostensibly English subject matter made this band unfit for the American AOR audience that was weened on the Kinks, Stones, Who and Beatles yet had become fat babies on Journey, Styx and Foreigner, thus unable to, so we were told, appreciate the timelessness of a song of this magnitude.
Superb post Klotzilla !!! Angry rock with something meaningful to say..... too harsh for the US market of that era ? Probably.... but a classic nonetheless!!!
Im sure you'll agree as a mate of Joe's hes picked a fucking good idol to have. After all he could be reffering to himself as Enoch Powell or such. Did Joe actually dislike The Jam by the way ?
the jam with out paul weller is like a vespa with a a engine .The style council with out bruce and rick is like a vespa with out wheels it is going nowhere .Paul weller with out rick and bruce is listening to billy brag all words no soul
the jam without weller ? like glitterband without gary, like a vespa wih no engine.he should get together again and o a led zep !they would make millions ! his music since the jam has been wave after wave of ear busting shit
You made me laugh!!! The Jam was so amazing, and Paul's stuff after The Jam has been pure crap, with the exception of just one song...Hung Up. Besides Hung Up, Paul Weller and The Style Council stink!!!
and anyway, weller has his own solo career now, maybe thats how he doesnt want 2 go back 2 the jam. foxton nd buckler are still amazin musicians 2 tho.
It's Weller's own fault he didn't hop back on the Jam train. He's kinda dead to me now, simply because he hasn't done crap since the Jam and Style Council. And the little crap he does is just crappy.
Going to see Rick and Bruce in Chicago in two weeks - don't care if Paul has gone missing. Just looking forward reliving the best music of my life. If Paul was there, that would be cool, but I'll manage. Scares me that this is almost 30 years old.
Got to give the chicago show thumbs up as well. couldn't believe they played "private hell" And russell did do a great job - and he knew when to step back and let bruce have his moments. well done!
Blimey - I'm English, but I lived in Chicago 79/80 -- and saw ace Jam gig at the Park West (is it still there?) and met Weller & Co afterwards. They were great - but even better in 78 at Great Yarmouth when a crew of us from Univ East Anglia went to see them. Happy Days. Up The Mariners

This was one of my favorite bands in high school, I just thought Paul Weller was a god. I wanted to swim across the pond to see him! I had to settle for the Style Council instead.
