This ending is in the name of the movie- Restless. The whole movie in Midheaven so peaceful, we feel that this will be a happy ending, so how can anything go wrong? The ending was a total dose of Restlessness, where these two lovers will forever chase each other through separate planes until they accept the true meaning of love. "Love is to have, but not to hold". That is why I have a love and hate relationship with korean movies. They always leave u to pick ur own meaning for the ending.

No, it is a fantasized version of the Buddhist 49 days in the intermediate state (average for humans), only correct point is the recommendation to let go of past relationships, the rest is just fantasy. The love mentioned here is a limited form of love, not altruistic.

Great Movie.. Awesome Fight Scenes.. The only funny thing is that she sacrifice her soul to save him from death, but in the end he died..wtf..and she becomes a human again..How come you can still remember someone if your reincarnated, she would be reincarnated as a baby again not a full grown woman..anyways, worth watching..And I see that coming, this would not be a happy ending at all. They have to separate ways again..The one stays and the other back to the human world..COOL....

This is my point of view, guys.

The guy can smell the flower at the end. it means that he has died. However, he was the only living in midheaven and the girl scarified her hold spirit for him to live. That's why she stopped being a Chuneen and became human and reincarnated. However, lee gwak just need to fulfill the 49 day trial and hopefully reincarnate meet her again. Fate shall be with them .. ㅠ-ㅠ sad movie

The message behind the movie is that it is worth sacrificing even the enlightenment - the freedom from endless suffering, reincarnation, and repetition of memories - for the love. It is assuming that you have to choose either the enlightenment or the love and that you cannot have both since love requires holding on to memories while the enlightenment requires letting go of memories. I kinda want to reject that premise though.

And as some of you had said it, it seems that she is leaving the midheaven to join the many souls that are being reincarnated while the guy has to stay at the mid heaven since he is dead. Technically, it is not a sad ending since they are being seperated temporarily. If the fate permits - which is the language the movie characters use - they will eventually meet again.

Here is my interpretation of the ending. Originally, all that the girl had to do was to put the holy stone - which is the soul of the old enlightened man that appears at the part 3 - into the pool in order to stop the power of the evil boss(although I am hesitant to call him evil), but she put the stone inside of her body to protect it. Since she accepted the holy stone into her body, she had to sacfice her own soul at the pool.
