Are European scientists overtaking Americans? Europeans living in America have made many discoveries, so one might say Europeans have always been leading serious scientific research.
As long as scientist require tangible evidence in their research, they will never find the answers to anything and there will always be something new that trumps the old. They have a long way to go. What a waste of time, money and effort. This I know!!
The Higgs Boson is just another particle in an an infinite dimension of particles from micro to macro. When you get to the particle called consciousness...then you'll gain my attention!!
@humaner Well, you gotta have some idea what you're looking for. 'Unbiased' observations have been made throughout history and theoretical frameworks have developed to explain them. Now it's time to once again test these frameworks, always with the possibility that they break down at some point. They're certainly open to not finding the Higgs, which is just as worthwhile a money expenditure as finding it.
So basicly this video told us what was known back in the 1980s - there may be a higgs boson and if there isn't then it's something else. But who am I to expect actual new information from a news channel. Heh.
a hypothesis that works very well is nice to have. But direct observation is better, because the problem with a hypothesis is that it could be wrong. The new information we get about the higgs boson when we discover it is its mass and some of its other properties. And everything that is currently based on the hypothesis that the higgs boson exists will then be based on the fact that the higgs boson exists. If you care about truth, then thats significant.
@kurtilein3 I never said discovering it's properties would be insignificant. I merely complained about the so called "news". If they had waited a little more and actually gave new facts instead of going on the rumor that they may announce a discovery I wouldn't have said a damn thing. It's them basicly saying "we heard that some smart guys will probably announce something so we should tell everyone before we know a damn thing" that annoys me.
Yes, about that you are right. It was a quick shot. But you also need to consider that this is a really big story. The definitive discovery of the higgs boson will be nearly as significant as the discovery of life elsewhere in the universe, or the development of the first artificial consciousness that is intelligent and self-aware. Its a story so big that no news outlet wants to risk of missing it. So, even if quick shots suck, expect more of them.
I thought Einstein figured this out years ago with his theory of curved spacetime. Matter curves spacetime. Mass is a certain amount of matter in a condensed space.
Einstein never adressed the question of what the physical structure behind this is, his theories work nicely and explain a lot of observed results that Newton could not explain, Einstein described some effects perfectly, but without explaining the quantum-mechanical cause of these effects.
THE PROBBLEM WITH SCIENTIST IS THAT THEY SPEND SO MUCH TIME TRYING TO DISPROVE GOD'S PERFECT SCIENCE AND IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN BECAUSE GOD WILL NEVER REVEAL ALL TO MAN WHO HAS FAULTS WHERE HE DOESNT....WE WERE CREATED BY GOD AND HIS PERFECT SCIENCE NOT BY THE EVOLUTION OF SCIENCE
This is BS, The scientific community won't admit that HHO works yet they want billions of dollars for this Bullshit only to tell us they MAY have found a particle that MAY govern mass. The scientific community suffers from too much political influence and this is a waste of time.
The sad thing is that the hadron collider was supposed to be in the U.S. but some christian politicians didn't wan't to fund it because they weren't sure if they where going to find God or some crazy shit like that. The only thing that is still good about the U.S. is the scientific community, such a shame.
Still never seen "The Observation Problem" make it to prime time. Yes kids consciousness and physical reality have a relationship at the quantum level and we scientists don`t wanna talk about it! Just encourage those non atheistic types!
apparently they want to introduce a particle that is part of everything we know, a GODLY particle 'we are all one' all that shit..You know what the big plan is ---> replacing religions with the NEW AGE
Creationists can't understand "The Origin of Species", too much of a brain strain for them. "Evolution... ah my brain hurts. Bible story... phew, don't have to think anymore".
evolved my ass nothing more than advanced poo poking. Learn how to make US as a species work before you try and tackle the entire universe you audacious twats.
Yay science.. Lets keep the money going towards science instead of the god damn military. *cough* USA... (Yes, I'm American).. Also, did anyone else notice that the guy was talking rather quickly and his pupils were dilated? ..Oh well, Idc if he is on coke.. Keep science advancing please!
