  • Thank you for being specific!

  • Вот неплохая школа в России fls-spb.ru обучают английскому

  • I'm irish living in the US, people think im from russia...

  • @SaintMichael82 That's funny how accents can make you sound like you are from a different country at times ... usually the "Russian" assumption has to do with strong voicing.

  • @rebeccalinquist yeah I do have a strong voicing I'd say... I have some videos uploaded on my site of me. Maybe you can tell me what could I do better to sound more American?

  • @SaintMichael82 If you'd like a Coach to contact you to assess your speech and show you our program, just visit our website (at the end of all the videos), and I'll arrange it for you. (I can't post the URL in You Tube for some reason, but it is at the end of every video.

  • omg this video is helping me so much, thank you god bless

  • u r woooow <3 thank u miss

  • maybe i need this for rapping :D

  • 1qazer

  • I wanna settle in America when im older... don't like Britain.. 2 boring.. and i love the american accent! And the americans love our accents aswell for some odd reason...

  • @hipopz94

We love your accent because it sounds posh and proper. Just in case you were wondering.

  • I am an Indian and i speak Urdu.I keep slipping my tongue while i am talking. There are letters like (s,t,r) i mostly slip on these letters,i tired hard to improve it but i couldn't.please help me because i live Saudi Arabia and here we dont have American accent couch.

  • @mahera97 You can still taking Coaching via the internet - live in person sessions recorded in video - similar to Skype, but we use WebEx and provide it to you ... you can schedule a consultation with no obligation so we can give you some feedback on your speech - you can talk to a Coach and decide if the program is right for you. Just visit the Englishbythehour website, and a Coach will contact you.

  • They just need to slow down, when I talk to my spanish friends they are only talking faster because that's how it works when they are speeking spanish. If I tell them to slow down they dont go hi...... my......name....is..... no they go, Hi my name is "namehere". You were over thinking this way to far.

  • @BrandonCpatrick Do you have a foreign accent?

  • Huh?!

  • I MOVE AWAY FROM THE MIC TO BREATHE IN

  • did you just said Indian language, I call that ignorance, this no such an Indian language

  • @barcos03 Or it could just be that I wanted to avoid spending the whole video with names of languages: Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Marati, Punjabi, Malayalam, Kanada, Hindi (and as I'm sure you know, the list goes on and on) ... stating "Indian languages" allows one to avoid citing the whole list - make sense?

  • @rebeccalinquist You are awesome!! Please , don't listen to trolls!! you are doing a great job and are very helpful

  • @barcos03 she said "AN" Indian language...

  • @TasteMyVideos exactly

  • @barcos03 Lol.. u do know that "AN" means one of many... right?

  • @TasteMyVideos No an used only because there is a vowel after it which is I in Indian, so we can not say a Indian, I talk to much about this any way, I am not even an Indian, I am from new york, but never mind.

  • @barcos03 I REALLY wanna say something right now.. but I wont...

I don't wanna offend you Mr. New Yorkan! :)

  • @TasteMyVideos shut the fuck up fucking stinky Indian mother fucker, you guys have the worst accent I have ever heard in my life + you stink like garbage.

  • @barcos03 Lol, you really ARE dumb, aren't you!?

    1 - LOL! I'm not Indian

2 - I prefer to be Indian with "an" accent (which means I speak at least 2 languages!) than to be a dumb ass "whatever you are"! (Notice that I didn't say AN Indian because I actually know how to use AN...)

Oh and thanks for sharing your "f&*% up literature" with me :D it says a lot about you! :D

  • @Sayanythingfan1 I think her advice is good. She pointed out many mistakes I also noticed from non-native speakers. Sometimes normal to them means incomprehensible to us. :D

  • I'm English 2 so i really don't know...

  • I'm english, why am I watching this?

  • @SugerLolly234 curious maybe?

  • @TheTrieutran Mabie;l

  • @SugerLolly234 because you can't speak american

  • hello, I am a chinese student. And I am doing a research about the differences on intonation of American English and British English.. But I really have no idea of it.. My professor just suggested me I can search for their pitch range difference. But I don`t know what can I write with the pitch range, and what can I write other than the pitch range? Can you help me? Thanks so much

  • @lovelysmileTingting If you want to pay a consulting fee, I can help you, otherwise, I think you just need to hit the books and do the research! (You can contact me through my website if you are interested in my consulting time.)

  • @rebeccalinquist Wow. You are just a typical money-hungry American. Consulting fee? Why? This person just asked one simple question... I'm apalled.

  • @bandlover005 If you have free time and want to answer the questions, feel free to jump in! But obligating others to do things for free is a little bit of a reach, wouldn't you admit?

  • @rebeccalinquist No it not out of reach. Do things for others out of the kindness of your heart, instead of wanting money for personal gain. That is never "out of reach" for anyone! In any case, I apologize for calling you a "typical money-hungry American." That was very rude and unthoughful. Sorry.

  • @bandlover005 So post the answer yourself since you seem to have time AND you seem to "know" the answer is simple ... has nothing to do with nationality, that's just stereotyping ... I'm sure we are all educated professionals and past labeling others ... no need to be nasty.

  • @bandlover005 Money hungry American? Firstly, she is doing her bit by putting up these videos. And secondly, she put in time, effort and money in acquiring knowledge and skills in the field. Why is she obliged to be philanthropic? It is the same as any other job. Would you work for your boss if he suddenly stopped paying you?

  • @lovelysmileTingting Scotland, Ireland, Wales and England all have different pitches and pronounce words differently from each other.

  • lol she's talking like we're slow :) people dont talk like this in america. Shes going to give people who try to speak english sound dumb! very funny

  • hahahah I love this! It's not only very helpful but also very funny! lol

    Go on teacher! ;D

  • but spanish is faster..

  • when she said "Breathing and speaking from the diaphragm" from 1:04 - 1:06,I felt that she wuz trying to teach me Biology!!!so i paused the video, scrolled down, wrote this comment and now........i'm gonna close this window and shut down my computer,so PEACE OUT .V.. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 :D :) ^_^ :p ~_~

  • u r great teacher thank u

  • that was BRILLIANT !! ;-]

  • JHVVVVVVVVVVVVV

  • MILF

  • THANKS!! That was helpful!!!!

  • Brilliant ! very soothing , soft , and humility is all over there ! i really enjoyed watching this vid, infact i really like the trainer she is a real guru for language.

  • teacher i have a little problem in pronouncing "R" in any work. like eg- Rookie. It sounds like "wrokie" and almost all words. i think i do talk in an american accent pretty much only "R" is the problem. Could you give me a suggestion. Thanks

  • You're a great teacher :D Thanks for the video ;)

  • Comment removed

  • Hey y'all! Which way to that thur Walmart? Dey gots a ammo sale!

  • I am an accent reduction teacher. I do not agree with your statement to slow down. Do a word count on yourself. You were speaking more words when you were supposedly bringing air from a diff place. The speed is not only breathe, but I agree with the holding length - but this is speed.. and grouping is imp to clarity.

  • this woman is good teacher

  • Thanks!

  • Lindquist the linguist... Teeheehee

  • I love american english... love more than y'all can imagine !!!

  • It was so helpful seriously..

  • I'd fuck you with Romanian P3n15!

  • I was born in the upper Midwest and we have a weird accent. Lol not quite Canadian not quite southern.

  • @highdeserthater me too:)

  • It helped me a lot.

    Congrats from Rio :)

  • She's spreading her words a bit.

  • quite rubbish -- advice for japanese and chinese alike

she should aim for the richie rich market and accents that british people hate, (brits got hatred issue based on country accent)

  • Transcribe Audio seems to think you don't speak clearly enough...

  • sounded like a robot at the start

  • very great video clips..thank mam

  • Thank you so much, I think that instinct things are the most valuable things to learn. This video was simple but still so helpful. Thanks a lot!

  • you sound like sue sylvester

  • That's cool! English is my first language, and I wondered about the different ways that foreign people tend to speak in English. I think Spanish people speak really fast...

  • merci pour la leçon je vais faire des vidéos onn comment parler avec un accent français plus tard

  • I can't listened anything. Something is wrong with the video, my computer, or the internet connection.

  • she is gorgeous...and smart...

  • Just curious - is there any difference between English and "American English"? Except from some spelling differences and a few other minor discrepancies.

  • @DaveWBedford There are a lot of differences depending on how detailed you want to get (dialectal difference, for example), but in general, British pronunciation is much more tense and American is more lax ... it's a huge generalization - there's a lot more complexity, but that's a start.

  • @rebeccalinquist I learnt my english from scratch in the UK but I noticed that when I was learning it I found that I was understanding Americain english (via the american tv channels and movies) better than the british one, the americain one felt more clear as though they emphacise the words more...Probably it helped me to learn british english. however the advices you gave on this vid could be implied on canadian and british accents, of course am not talking here about regional accents.

  • @rebeccalinquist sorta like the difference between french french and canadian french :D

  • @DaveWBedford yeah what English ? a British English for example Vs. American English the different is the accent or the pronunciation.

  • @DaveWBedford There's really no difference besides some spelling (ex: liter/litre, favorite/favourite), some words are different (ex: diaper/nappy, mom/mum), and the pronunciation (mainly of the letter "R"). That's about it. But it's all English and we understand each other perfectly. I'm American but could speak and write in British English (or Australian, etc.) perfectly if I wanted to.

  • I've watched perhaps every single of Your videos and the most helpful advice I found is the easiest one I think, to be relaxed. Ever since, I started my journey with American Accent, I couldn't find out "the medicine" for my unequal form of speech. I was looking almost everywhere to find it and nothing worked, until I watched one of Your videos talking about that relaxed attitude while communicating with community. I wanna thank You so much for that!:)

  • @PLPs2GamesPL You are most welcome! Glad it helped.

  • really helpful...thank you so much mam~

  • Why don't people stick to there own accent.

  • @Pondebong- have you ever been to a foreign country and you try to socialize with native speakers and have people asking you to repeat yourself over and over again! Do you know how frustrating it is to have people judging your intelligence based on the way you speak?

  • @faceitson No, sorry for my ignorance, never left America. But I wouldn't try to change my accent.

  • @Pondebong- you know its hard to change your accent (especially if you start learning a new language after 20 years) but I think what most people are looking for is a clear and concise speech. I would give you an e.g of why I started looking for videos like this: I pronounced yacht as 'ya chi ti' & my boss was like what? then he started laughing & corrected me like this & I quote, "you know, its like a boat, do you know a boat? I'm happy I did it & I'm doin my MSc now & have a lot of friends.

  • I stuck at some places while i am reading a book or speaking to someone...i have a lot of breaks...there are some sentences that i can speak very fast and some i cant even after trying it a few times...can u guide me through it

  • @yabbar100 sure - come to our website and request a free consultation with a coach!

  • Heya hi Rebecca this is great, Im an Aussie and practising the American accent so I can hit Hollywood soon, and your videos have been great help.

  • @vipworldentertain Glad to hear it - I plan to release a new one soon with lots of new stuff :-)

  • I'm american but i speak... Jibberish sometimes because i always get too shy halfway through the sentence and i talk really fast

  • omg i must learn to speak clearly.....:(

  • Boring.

  • american english is The most boring english in the world. it schould be Brittich!!!

  • @Petegrin1 British, sir/ma'am.

  • @Petegrin1 And, schould is should.

  • @nishell3200 yo retard, im 14 years old and im from sweden so my english is really good for being in my age and comming from a country were you dont speak english

  • @Petegrin1 But before you insult somebody/someone make sure you spell words correctly.

  • @nishell3200 i am 14 years old and i come from a country were you dont speak any english... so my english is pretty good. and why is it so important to spell right to you? when you still can see what i am saying

  • @Petegrin1 Being able to "see" what you wrote is one thing, but being able to "understand" it is another thing. I usually glance at the cmts, but I stopped at yours for like a minute or so to read. You are good, as you said, but it doesn't mean you don't need any improvement. :D

And BTW, it's supposed to be "where", not "were". Were is the past tense of are.

  • @TheTrieutran okay, ur just trying to help me... but youre still pissing me off!

  • @Petegrin1 Yeah I figured. Anyway, I don't wanna argue with you, and I don't wanna be falsely nice by saying sorry for not being nice to you in the cmt before either. So let's just cut all the crap here, once and for all. OK?

  • @TheTrieutran ´well, i just want to say that people like you simply schould not be on youtube or internet...

  • @Petegrin1 Why? Because I got the spelling right?

  • @TheTrieutran no, beuz you complain about other that dont got the spelling right

  • SHE IS AMAZING AND REALLY FUNNY AT THE SAME TIME!

  • the instructions are very good, but a subtitle would be very useful.

Submit some graphics in the video would be helpful for the understanding of it. thanks! las instrucciones son muy buenas, pero un subtitulo seria muy útil.

Presentar algunos gráficos en el vídeo seria de gran ayuda para la comprensión del mismo. gracias !!

  • the instructions are very good, but a subtitle would be very useful.

Submit some graphics in the video would be helpful for the understanding of it. thanks!

  • it's fun because they think that the generations makes os americans or not... if it is like that, there are not too many americans, because in that case indigens are the only american people... and i'm american, but from south america xDD

  • excelent

  • Hey thank you so much....i used to think the same way...but now im confident...

  • very nice

  • 14256 views, That's not enough for such a good video. I should show my friends this video for them to enhance their accent.

  • all of her videos are usefull, i do know how to speak english but when i watch the videos, it help control my lips movement which make it easier for anyone to understand me

  • this audio is not good! could you fix it,please?

  • the audio is not good! will you please fix it?

  • I'm third generation American.

  • hello i have a form of transverse myelitis which affected my speech.....i am Canadian but who cares as long i can articulate my words if i end up with an American Accent that would be fine with me cuz at least i will be able to talk better than i am now!! my voice is like a whisper and no one can hear me:(

    thank-you

    Rebecca:D

  • Thank u so much Rebecca! very helpful.

  • @chargonchar That's my married name; I'm not Swedish. I'm actually of German origin, but 4th generation American, so I speak German with a terrible American accent :-)

  • @rebeccalinquist

Sorry! Of course I should have considered this. It's just because I'm going on a vacation to Sweden next month and I'm browsing Youtube for Swedish videos. Then I saw your name and was mistaken.

I'm from Germany, so I guess my English with a German accent is terrible as well;-)

    Best wishes!

  • @rebeccalinquist lindqueist is name from 1300TH hundreds from a duke of that name so sorry lady your name is SWEDISH.

  • @chargonchar most Americans are of European decent, that means Most American's grandparents are European, there is no real American unless you are talking about Native Americans which are also called Red Indians

  • @38azn ..

yes..Mrs. Lindquist is definitely right...we studied about that when I was in Highschool...

  • @38azn

    I see.

  • @chargonchar do you have a problem with it??

it is her problem, i mean everyone decides to do what they want with their time and life, to do what they like, to help others improve their lives, even if she were not an american, and she knows the accent and wonna help other people, just let her be!!

  • @chargonchar Who are you to decide who's an American and who's not? FYI The largest ancestry group in the US is German. Also, it doesn't matter. A second generation American of e.g. Asian or Hispanic ancestry is no less an American than anyone else, as long as they choose to identify as American. My last name is DeLorentz, I'm not Hispanic, and yes, I'm an American. I don't pledge allegiance to any other country.

  • i like the rubber band metaphor.

  • I'm English but this video was very helpful.

  • Thank you so much. I'm on the point where, I hate speaking in public because every time they ask me to repeat what i say. it pisses me off

  • I like this video & the articulation exercises video

    & yes i'm a non-native speakers

  • Thank you so much!!!

  • You are awesome Rebecca thank you some much for your tips, those have been helping me so much to improve my English and how to sound more natural.

  • very helpful, thanks!!

  • thanks for that suggestion.. i had collected a lot of american accent training audio books and video training and it helpes me improve.. but then i still need to watch more programs so i could perfect my accent...

  • that was very helpful. please make more videos

  • Clarity at its best. Thanks a lot for the lesson
