  • They were fast lol

  • @DieHardChevrolet This from Wikipedia (Top Fuel) really sums it up. "The engine of a Top Fuel dragster generates 120 dB of sound at full throttle, enough to cause physical pain in some individuals. A sound that intense is not just heard, but also felt as pounding vibrations all over one's body, leading many to compare the experience of watching a Top Fuel dragster make a pass to 'feeling as though the entire drag strip is being bombed'."

  • hi, i was at this event, on the grassy bank, could i have your permission to post it on face book. i am trying to get more of my friends to attend

  • @seanstylecars Sure that's absolutely no problem. Go ahead and post it on Facebook. The more people that attend the events the better the sport will get. Plus I think every person, whether a petrol head or not should at least once in their life see a Top Fueler run the quarter mile. There's absolutely nothing else like it!

  • @Alf188188 Absolutely nothing like a T/F running the quarter mile, you can feel the horsepower.

  • @DieHardChevrolet I totally agree. As for feeling the horsepower you'll notice in the video the instant the cars leave the line the camera shakes until they get to half track. That's because of the shockwave in the air from the NOISE.

  • @Alf188188 and what creates that noise?

  • @DieHardChevrolet Obviously on very simple level its the Supercharged 500 cubic inch Hemi configuration engine. However on a deeper level it the 90% nitromethane and 10% methanol fuel mix. This creates 2 to 3 times the power (and NOISE) the engine would make running straight gas.

  • I have viewed tons of racing vids on youtube and read and posted many comments about them, usually arguing with Europeans about the superior forms of racing, better auto manufacturers, etc. etc. etc.

This video made me smile after seeing the reactions of the Brits in the stands. Made me think back to my first Top Fuel experience and the goofy grin that spread across my face.

Hope to see more Top Fuel vids from the other side of the pond.

    Later.

  • @rootypootooty Growing up the closest I was able to get to seeing Top Fuelers was on TV. Then I went to Santa Pod in 2005 to see the European Finals. My god I can still vividly remember the first time I saw a pair of Top Fulers run. Me, my mate and a few hundred other first timers in the stands were dumbfounded. The noise, the shockwave in the air and the speed at which they covered the quarter left us speechless. We were all looking at each other thinking 'Did that really just happen??'

  • @Chaserz1 Less money and a LOT less track time. NHRA cars will make more test passes than our teams make competitive runs all season. To be fair, we're not THAT far behind. From memory, the Euro ET record is in the 4.7s with a smattering of non backed up 4.6s, and there have been plenty of 315mph+ speeds. That's over the quarter, so compare to the 4.4s at ~335mph+ NHRA were running prior to the 1000ft switch after Kalitta was killed. It's none too shabby.

  • Top Fuel racers are no doubt the best of the best!

  • not talkin shit about european cars or anything like that but our top fuel dragsters in the states run almost a full second faster and 40 mph faster, jw why yall r so much slower

  • @Chaserz1 there's no where near as much sponsorship money in European drag racing. Most of the Fuel Racers spend every penny of whatever money they do have, but less money means not as up to date parts etc.. we're a while behind on ET's in The nitro classes but our alchohol rails are running 5.2s - 5.3s, pro mods 5.9s, top fuel bike 5.9s, pro stock car 6.6's. plus our tracks cant handle the power as well as the NHRA prepared tracks,(temp etc.. hope this sheds some light,

  • @Chaserz1 Yeah I must admit you guys are faster. I think it's because in Europe Top Fuel isn't a professional sport as there isn't as big a following nor sponsorship like you guys have. So consequently there is less racing (Only 5 major events a year, and you can count on one or two being rained out). But that's not to say they don't put on a great show, they do, and I take my hat off to them for putting all their time, money and effort into racing.

  • i went to santapod last year for the 1st time, i was speechless when i saw these...leaving today for the easter thunderball to <333
