I think what Chastain's saying is that he had to get off the pumper to go get an airpack out of a compartment(although we have a couple of spare 70's model engines that have SCBA mounts in the seats, surely that pumper ain't that old...)
This was a reserve with masks in the side compartments. There is no jumping off breathing air in this pumper. Cameras were rolling and Rescue 2 which is basically a SORT truck company (standing at the front in the beginning) happened to be in the area when the fire came in and were already on the scene when we pulled up. Rescue cannot do anything but stand in the front yard and breathe air until we get there anyway yet they were masked up and ready when the water started flowing.
Water is on the fire within 2 minutes of our arrival.
The Supply pumper was not even on the scene when the video started.
Yet we had a dry line connected to a water supply before the 3 minute video was over. The only thing left was charging the line. There is no possible way it could have been done any faster.
I have mixed reviews. Seems Memphis is on quint system right? Anyways, the water deployment was a bit slow, and ed hit it right about the equipment. I was always taught to hook up that regulator and go go go. I still commend the boys for doing the job, it looked like a quick strike out of the fire.
plus when u get there the news is there and rescue like i said, another delayed response we were out of our territory. Also if ed needs to know about a search yes searches are done by the second pumper crew so yes one was done.If u want to sidewalk chief i have no probs with that, all fires can be critiqued. (dunno if i spelled that correctly)but its hard to have mask on when u have to go to a compartment and throw ur stuff on. Sorry about the rant but just got to throw some things out there.
well let me comment on bassplayr and ed has to say,u had to get out and put ur air pack on i was taught in fire school to have all ur equipment on in less than 1 min, as u can see the rescue truck guys were already there so they couldnt do anything u need water. My mask and equip was on at 1:20 yes that was slow i agree, but when u hafta get out go to the compartment and pull out ur mask and go that's time consuming and plus being my first fire that might be a reason there also.
Im sorry I have to agree with edreed24 I watched this and it was slow. During the responce the guys should already had their masks and helmets and hoods in place with bottles turned on and ready to go. Not when they get to the front door. Then all they had to do was connect the regulator to thier masks and go. Thats how I was taught.
Glad to see you know so much about professional fire fighting. If you really did know what you were talking about, you know that you dont dare strap that tank to your back while in the jump seat. Some of MFD pumpers do not have air packs in the jump seat. We'll see how you think and your gun ho attitude after you get hurt and your oji is denied because you had tunnel vision.
I don't care what anyone says Memphis Fire Dept is a bad ass dept

That would definitely take a little more time.
