I'm a big fan of Ilayaraja's music. But as a person he is arrogant and not graceful. When Raja made his debut, older people compared him to MSV and older composers and said he is not good. They didn't like that he brought a bit of western music into his songs. But now Raja is doing the same mistake of being a grumpy old man and criticizing the next generation of music directors. For your age and achievements, have some humility and grace.
raja and his family are always jealous of rahman. I have seen so many time even gangai amaran running his mouth against rahman about how his song have western influence. For example his movie Love Birds had both malargale which awesome indian tune at the same time no problem was in western sense. If some like indian tunes let like malargale. if other prefer western kind of songs does not matter whether the lyrics are audible.If raja not able put such kind of music doesnt mean no one else should
Why rahman >layaraja: Ilayaraja scored more than 800 movies but only 50% of his songs are good and classic. In year if he composes 14 movies only 6 will be good and other will be garbage but people will only talk about the 6 movie he scored. But for rahman 85% of his songs are hit. In a year if he composes 10 movies 8 of them will great and other will be below par compared to other 8 but still it will be better than other music released by other musicians that year,
even in his latest dhoni film IR takes us back to his 90s type music.. but he shud provide us something like Anjali music.. trendy as well as IR genius.. So I guess IR feels that if he changes his "style" he will get lost!

Raja done more than 800 films. So many melodies is still in our mind.but raja always praise other great composers like MSV ect..ect.

@TheKkthas He can compose a million songs also,doesn't mean he can be the greatest. How to evalute a person by the numbers of the song he/she composed is it? Yes arr nv compose as many songs as IR or work as many movies like IR. Yet almost 80% of his creation standing far way higher thn any music directors.. look at the awards that he hv..the champions shld declare by the medal..IR creation only in most of the ppl's mind but ARR music in many people's heart,soul & life :)

Pl Leave Ilayaraja alone. He was a Mighty Musisian. If you have ever fallen from the height that he has, You will speak even worse. Rahman is an Emotionally Stable person and is a multi talented personality. Rahman is truely a revolutionary but Ilayaraja makes the best soulful music apart from the really bad comments that he has passed.

To all those who compare the musicality of these two great legends..how many oscars & grannys & recognitions u people have got to critisize these 2 legends' music??? When u critisize someone u should be on top of them..U guys dont even know to make music or may be 0.001% of their capability..By the time u compare and comment on their works, learn some music and try to enjoy their works with some musical sense rather than simply listening to the tracks and commenting on it blindly as u listen!!

see, raja is son of soil ,arr is genius no doubt .but people now a days know how to influence and arr supporters does good marketing where as raja is innocent does not know how to influence media.if slumdog millioner director used raja he could have got oscar or even who plays music in platform would got oscar .so it is not a award to feel arr as good. people who does not know music will compare arr and raja.these people will compare arr with someone after few years.oscar is simple

You never tried to show one-sided in your comments nor in your clips. @CHERIPELLIKISHAN : first of all you try to know the value of music in tamil nadu.. even you can take arr's songs when he came to field, and now.. almost ten or 15 years.. now-a-days he is not even using flutes and other instruments in his songs.. simply composing some ...... to finish the song without good stuff..A GUY who cant even give good musics for atleast 10 years, cannot be compared to a LEGEND (illaiyaraja) who was in the field for more than 25 years..
