This waving thing has been used so often: Sonic's water, Havoc's flames in the later levels (and water), Ninja Turtles Hyperstone Heist's intro scene where the city vanishes...^^

A little while ago I wanted to do something similar on the Super Nintendo, but the way it's video memory is set up is too complicated.

The reason why you see more experimenting in games and demos on the Genesis is because it was much less complicated to program, and so it was easier to experiment with tricks.
