Oh I remember her so well from her voice. She used to go onstage barefoot because she couldn't find shoes that fit her feet. She was called "the barefoot singer".
There also was a less successful singer named Julie Driscoll who had 1,000 curls in her hair.
love sandie, she went to our friends wedding in the 60's. The press turned up, and sandie wanted to tell them to 'fuck off', she did'nt mince her words did sandie !
This is more evocative than I ever could have imagined this song could be. She betters Dionne Warwick exponentially. What an accomplishment this version is.
Sandie you bring back thoughts of small cafe,s where we would put records on and have a coke ,meet the gang and have a lovely night .no drugs or violence just happy teenagers !1
what a beautiful version. i was only familiar with Dionne Warwicks. hard to say which is better. however i dont like how at 1:32 she sings ahead of the music/beat. a timeless classic.
Great singer, and I agree, what a profile, perfect mouth, nose, cheeks, as beautiful as Shrimpton or Christie. As others have said, if you had a few hits you got a TV show, and one of the highlights of those shows were often duets with a guest, singing any song not just their own. It would work now I think, but how many can work with an orchestra live?
During the 60s, there were a category of singers that interpreted contemporary songs and sung beautiful cover versions. Shandie Shaw was one of those singers (along with Cilla Black, Johnny Rivers, and others). You could make a living doing that and singing the occasional original. Nowadays, noone could make a living doing covers. Who would be worth covering? Brittany Spears, the Jonas Brothers, and Miley Cyrus?
I always will remember my mum singing this when I was a little boy. Nostalgia is beautiful, but impossible to grasp hold of.

Nothing less than brilliant! Such a shame that the BBC didn't archive "The Sandie Shaw Supplement" the series this performance came from.

Sounds exactly like the Warwick version. Did Burt just use different singers on the same song?

the train`s siren is so annoying..it ruins the song.

One of Bacharach's best songs and a beautiful rendition by a gorgeous 60's chick.

When her face first arrived on the screen, I thought her profile resembled that of actress Drew Barrymore. Anyone else?
Despite that tidbit, what a gorgeous song.

A lovely haunting song, well done by Sandie Shaw. Many other fine versions on youtube as well - especially Cilla's.
