Small talk is BORING. I simply hate when someone tries to discuss nonexistent topics like the weather, sports, cars, blah, blah, blah. I just ignore their stupidity. The worst is CELEBRITIES. Then I just leave the room. Unless you can say something INTERESTING, do not open your mouth.

@cwa1984 Sorry but I have to disagree with this comment. I work in the business world and small talk builds relationships which lead to profits. You don't want to spend the whole evening talking "small talk" it's just a bridge to what you really want to talk about.

Small talk is natural. People get a lot of information from you even though you're just talking about the weather. It doesn't mean both people are equally bored. It's the fact that YOU ARE TALKING. Simple as that.

I am good at small talk at social gatherings and talk to people easily but I seldom get to a higher level. I am smart and have an attractive smile. I maintain good eye contact and do just about everything right. The problem is people seem to always want to excuse themselves to go to the bathroom, etc. Their loss I guess.
