  • thanks for the instruction

  • Intonation i think is what he called it

  • What i mean about 12 fret notes is that when u play an open E its in tune , but play E on the 12th fret and its not in tune for example. Hard to fix? I hope i dont mess it up more lol. Its not horrible but I want it right.

  • @webname05 Thanks, he's had this guitar for about a year and a half but it just wouldnt hold tune. The bridge is level but it wouldnt hold tune, now i know why. Also the 12 fret notes are out of tune on a couple of strings hope this isnt too hard of a fix.

  • Question. I have 16 year old son who has been playin for about 2 years. Got him a B.C. Rich Warbeast with a Floyd Rose "Special" Series Tremolo. I know its not the higher end Floyd Rose Original type. Does these instructions still apply. It seems like they would but not sure of the differences. Thanks!

  • @WoodyWV38 I've also got the special, it's the same for all the Floyd Roses. Well, maybe except the Speedloader... and the one that's not the trem...

    Yes, it is the same...

  • 0:50, "I did five step and six".

  • Thank you so much! I got a new Xiphos an its all set up now!!!!

  • Thanks man! This helps alot!

  • I spent almost $400 on guitar and 5 hours setting it up and still cant get it tuned! Am I retarted or what?!

  • @indoorgirl22 what type is it?

  • @indoorgirl22 im beginer and i finished it 40 minutes

  • LOL...the intonation bit is conveniently rushed over. No tips on how to hell to unscrew those bolts for tuning octaves... Very convenient...saved us lots of money...NOT! :D

  • After you do all the steps to you put the locking bolts back on and set the fine tuners on the trem back or do you keep them in the middle

  • Ok so I'm playing a show tomorrow an I need guitar in standard. So I followed all these steps an now my guitar is tuned but the trem is 3cm off the guitar. The screws in the back are I'm as far as they can go an the springs are fully extended! What do I do!? I hate this piece of shit guitar! Can some one help me. My guitar is a BC Rich war beast if that helps at all

  • ha i tried really hard but i failed:/ i think its cuz i have a 7 string:(

  • fret buzz may also be because of an worped neck or curved neck or bowed in or out ... that will make ur frets buzz and also distort action ,, to were it may be too high and too tight to play even dough u lowerd ur bridge,, forgot to say that.. but nice work,,

  • Thank you so much it really helped me!! =))

  • Great video man thank you so much

  • I've been using Floyds for so long I don't know how to set up a stop-o-matic:( I think Floyds, blocked or floating are far superior fixed bridge for keeping a guitar in tune and intonated.

  • Thanks Alot King, Pretty easy once u know how to do it

  • i really want a guitar with a floyd rose but this looks annoying to set up, is it worth getting one? thxs :)

  • @rand0mturk3y That depends. Do you change tunings frequently? If you're like me and change tunings almost every time you play, don't bother with a Floyd Rose. It's a royal pain in the ass. On the other hand, if you use one tuning and rarely change, you only have to do this once and be done for a while. It's up to you.

  • if you put it in tune and it is tilting forward like that wont the strings break if you tighten them??

  • Thanks for this video! u just about solved all my problems with my guitar! I now know y my Low e buzzes and i can fix it! Ur bloody awesome!!!

    cheers again, :D

  • What if I did Drop C? Do I do the same thing you did?

  • when you intonate it, do you loosen one string at a time?

  • Nice tutorial man!

I'm planning on getting a Gibson Les Paul Standard within a couple of weeks.

I'm going to spend enough money on the guitar itself and DON'T want to spend more on a set-up.

Is the set-up which you showed us similar to that of the Les Paul?

    Thanks!

  • Thank you man. I just received my first floyed rose guitar today and thanks to you i just set it up. i still need to intonate it a bit but other than that its good. Thank you once again. Keep doing what your doing and God Bless you sir.

  • Hye Tone King, how to tune Drop D tuning on floyd rose? TQ

  • Can I use this same procedure for and LTD MH 327?

  • Difficult ass hell >.<

but thank you i just bought my self and ESP LTD F-200

  • Thanks for your videos. It made my high school graduation present even better! (ESP LTD H-351FR)

  • I subscribed cause your awesome.

  • which guitar is this? :)

  • sweet as vid man, good work, more confident in getting an LP with FR

  • thanks for the vid man this is awesome I was wondering why my guitar wasn't staying in tune and why I was getting buzz O.O...just one thing anything you can do to help with the pickups? My ones seem to sound crap.....I will say if its sorted affter I use these steps

  • please help I tightened the screws and the bridge wont move please help!

  • omg i freaked out when i tried to adjust the intonation and the saddle thing suddenly popped away from the bridge. But turns out everything was cool in the end hmm ... noted

  • how do you FINE TUNE the guitar?

  • @xxxkhafanxxx use the little tone knobs the " fine tuners" on the bridge i self

  • Comment removed

  • tone king, you are my new hero! thanx for the help! best tutorial ever!

  • hey how do I fix my bridge when the front of it's sinking to the body I have a KH602 can you help me please, because I don't want to go to a guitar tech to fix it, it'll cost a lot

  • Thanks a lot for the instructions! I've got a Dean 88 and and currently waiting on an Ernie Ball AX40, both with Floyd Rose trems. Thanks a lot, I'll be usin these for setup! :)

  • oh shit i have second problem, i just changed the strings of my guitar right, and every time i tune the strings the trem moves upwards or downwards is that normal?

  • hey i have a probelm with my bc rich mockingbird, i just changed the strings and the trem is way to high so i screwed it in as much as i could to tighten it, but the trem is still to high, i can't get it to be flush what should i do in this case?

  • AWESOME and really helpful videos, thanks!

Just wondering, how can i know the string gauge my brand new guitar comes with? I would like to keep using the same gauge as the factory one so as not to change the set up on the bridge. How can i tell what gauge they are by just "looking" at the strings?? Or where could i find out? (i already checked the site jacksonguitars)

  • It helped. Subscribed.

    Thanks alot!

  • !! thank you !!

  • toone king!! ok ok im just about ready to break my 1000 dollar guitar floyd rose schecter hellraiser in half because i try to tune it down to drop c, whenever i tune down the string naturally tighens back up to like a d sharp. i actually did what u said and pulled on the strings and actually got to the drop c but when i would played, the strings were so flimsy and loose and close to the neck that it would make any noise exept an annoying muffled sound. i just want to know how to play in drop c!

  • im sorry to ask a stupid question but itès my first time tuning a floyd and im not sure what to do with the fine tuners.. and also, what is considered the middle?

  • Tip:

A small light behind your camera and pointing at you and the guitar will highlight the parts of the guitar so that we can see them. Other than that your presentation is great!

  • thanks tone king!!!!!

    i love your videos!!

    keep it going man!!!!!

  • i thik this is great cuz im gettign a schecter w/ a floyd rose

  • thank you!

  • Great videos man they are really helpful and informative. I just bought a jackson king v and had no clue what to do with the tremolo system until now.

  • you locking the nuts when what?

  • why does it need to be flush with the guitar?

  • you're really the king!!

  • thanks

  • thanks man, i got a KH 602, hey this guy sounds like curly from the three stooges

  • so its perfectly in C tuning and its tipped as if you're looking up a bit , loosen right?

  • nice video man , thanks alot

  • when you losen or tighten the springs of the guitar, it messes with the tuning. in my case the trem is falling back into the body i made it flush with the guitar but it was out of tune. what should i do? i need to get it flush with the guitar for dive bombs and stuff in my bands songs. what should i do?

  • @XthrownX Get it flush and THEN tune it...

  • @narto1223344 you got it backwards. tune it, then get it flush because when you tune it, the string tension changes, and it will alter the resting place of the tremelo, the same way when you alter the tremelo's spring tension, the strings may go out of tune so you have to find a balance between the two. or somthin...i guess.......

  • i cant get through step 6. it never stays tune!

  • tone king, i was wondering if u could help me out! i just received my new guitar and if has a tune o matic bridge no trem but i have to change to a heavier string gauge to down tune and i get fret buzz terribly when i do this. i know that i can adjust the truss rod somehow to prevent this but i dont know how!

  • tone king! plz help me! i just got my guitar it does not have a trem but i have to put heavier gauge strings on to tune down to D standard and when i do that i get insane fret buzz. I dnt want my action to be any higher, i know that i can adjust the truss rod somehow but i dont know how to and i was hoping u could help me!

  • What a wanker! This guy sucks....

  • nice spirit! and nice guitar !

  • this is awesome thank you sir!

  • i have an ibanez RG5Ex1 with a trem and i cant get it to be flush with the body, i dont know which screws to adjust

  • dude xDD i have a jackson rhoads with a thin neck i was wondering if any of the adujustments i make to the bridge mess up the neck???

  • I ordered my first Guitar with a Floyd Rose Special Bridge and after watching this video i'm afraid that i cant adjust it right :O (Just played and adjusted Strats so far)

  • Your video saved me 50 euros :) Thank you so much !!!

  • so dumb question but out of anyones experience a set of 11-50 strings .. 3 springs enough for it a 24 fret guitar to go in standard

  • @JYZProductions maybe in drop c look into 5 springs

  • nice video man it's really helpful.

i have a question, if i down tune to like D or C will i need to re intonate

  • You are the best in the business Tone King. You have no idea how much this video has helped me. I thought I made a mistake buying a guitar with a Floyd. You rock brother....

  • haha i had to figure this all out the hard way.. you did give some helpful tips tho.. and also i must say that's probably one of the sickest washburns i've ever seen... it's got an ESP headstock with the Jackson sharkfin inlays.. simply bad to the bone!! the thing that confuses me is the intonation.. because wouldn't you have to move the string out of the way then move the saddle, then tune it again to test, then loosen and move the saddle again ooorrrr??

  • dude your awesome.

  • i dont like fret buzz, but i have my action low, which obv makes me have fret buzz, but you get used to it

  • thank you man today i got my new jackson kelly ke3 which was definately out of tune. but now it sounds perfect. thanks a lot

  • You are the man! ;)

  • really unprofessional tips... you can easily get something screwed up even doing things according to this vid. it takes a few more factors than those he mentioned. for example, action may be not only a trem issue but also neck adjustment issue. same for fret buzz, your guitar may have uneven frets.

  • ive found that changing the action on floyds while the strings are tuned can blunt the knife edges, it might not first time but after a while im sure it would. ive always detuned and loosed the strings before adjusting those bolts.

  • thank you

  • TTK, thank for the tutorial. I just received my Music Man Axis today and set it up per your instructions. Intonation on this guitar was right on. Didn't take much for this baby to hold tune. The Floyd Rose didn't seem as hard to tune as I thought. Maybe it was the teacher. Thanks again TTK!!!

  • whats up tone king!

i bought a jackson dinky with a flyod rose trem a few months back and i was wondering if i needed to so anything in the back of the guitar with the springs if i want to tune low to D or C. Im kind of afraid to mess around with the guitar too much cuz i dont wanna fuck it up and have to pay some rediculous amount of money to have it fixed..my local music shop is a bit pricey..

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks

  • @FinnMetal4Life Think of a floyd system as a balancing act. 1- trem needs to be flush mount. If you tune down, you'll need to tighten the springs. If you tune up, you'll need to loosen the strings. With any set-up, do so in small increments. The first time will take you a while, but once you're there, maintenance is simple. Hope tha thelps some!

  • @lmsjr great tip man thanks so much.

  • @lmsjr hey tone king, i just got my dean a few days ago and i have had some problems tuning it, i tried tuning it to Open D, all that after i followed all your steps, except one because my screwdriver cant unscrew some screws, and i am still suffering with getting it in tune, when i tune my guitar to open D and then tighten the lockin nuts the Low E string goes up to E flat , is it cause the

floyd rose aint used to low tunings? or could the springs tension be to tight? or somethin else

  • @FinnMetal4Life when you do fuck it up which you will eventually if you continue to change tunings you're gonna have to adjust the truss rod... , find me i'll help you out to fix it in home :)

if you want to tune them without screwing with the neck buy thicker strings...

0.9 strings are for E 0.10 strings are for Eb 0.11 Strings are for D 0.12 strings are for C# 0.13 strings are for C... so one milimeter thicker means tune down a half step.

  • thanks. took me about an hour :)

  • thanks man, you saved me 30 $ xD :D

  • Nice! I'm having issues with intonation but now I can fix it myself without paying for it!

    Thanks alot

  • just bought an ibanez rg350dx off ebay.....when i got it it was totally fucked up....the bridge was at an insane angle and all the strings were well out of tune!!! this vid really helped thx!!!!!!!

  • I suggest you do not adjust the height of the bridge under string tension. If you do, you will experience dramatical bridge's sharp edges wear. My personal experience tells me it is always better to remove the bridge before you rotate the screws to set the bridge height (therefore, to set the action of the strings).

    Ad Maiora

  • @Majesty85 Nice one! It really destroys your floyd rose, and it makes the strings go out of tune easier.

  • @fire2nor

    thank you bro! Rock on.

    Ad Maiora

  • you are really the king man hails!!!!

  • thanks man this help alot !!

  • Thanks for these videos they help alot!

  • do you have a vid for setting up for c tuning? or drop tuning in general

  • hey buddy whats up?what gauge of string you r using? n what is the exact height of action is your set up? thnks n rock n roll!

  • Very nice instruction on the strech the strings lesson , very helpful for alot of buys and girls I think ! :) I also think that if you not using the floyd trem alot, dont bye it , alot of work too have that on the guitar , but if you are a metal man and have been playing for awaile , its sure cool ! I have in on 2 of 5of my electic guitars and its them I use most, but loads of work ! you could do a video how too lock the trem " the brick in the back " good lesson to ,

  • You should NOT screew on the screews too set the action then there is tension on the bridge ! what you can do is that you destroy the bridge ! WARNING! what you should do is to loosen all the strings and adjust a little and then tune up again ! . that is what a guitar tech will teach you anyways , just a warning .... you can ruin the smal knife edge on the bridge that press against those screews, and what happens is that you will feel a " bump " then you use the bar , .. beware ;o)

  • not good to turn the floyd rose posts when the strings are up to pitch

  • Ok on my edge III it only has 2 holes for intonation. My guitar is sharp on the 12th fret but there isnt another hole for me to increase the string length to make it flatter. Any suggestions???

  • Thanks for the tips. Lucky me, My guitar stayed in tuning after first try. I was trying to get it out of tune with the streching over and over again, but it wouldnt untune xD

  • i wont a drop b with 11-54 what do i need to do?

  • you tighten the springs. Or add another spring.

  • Thank you!

  • some people do think strings stretch but in reality it is the strings wrap on the machine head that tighten as you tune, not the string actually lengthening.

  • Brandeno15

guitar strings are wound with such tension that the idea of them "stretching" is illogical. but to pull on them sort of helps to align the bridge due to spring's tension. I however never do this step and have no problems. But strings are made of metal and do expand and contract in different temperatures. A slight disadvantage to the floyd when going on stage in a hot club, bar, or venue.

  • man i completly forgot about the springs in the back ive been trying to tune my hellraiser down to d and i did but the trem went way donwn and is now busing and ive been tryig to figure out how to make it comeup and i forgot about the springs wow

  • guitar strings dont stretch... only thing that would happen with the floyd is your string would slip out of the bridge and that would have happened already or your pulling on the trem springs and thats it. strings wont stretch

  • what the fuck thats like saying water isnt wet

  • yea and my dick isnt big

  • I haven't check all the comments, i might be repeating something here, but anyways..

See, action setup affects intonation. If you intonate your guitar and THEN adjust the action, all your intonation adjustments change slightly, but they DO change. So the wiser way of setting the guitar up is to do all the adjustments first...truss rod, bridge angle, action at 12 fret, nut action at first fret...and leave intonation for the last step...

    Cheers

  • can u adjust the action of a floyd rose with the strings on?

because did this and now theres marks on it.

  • also do u have to set the intoneation evry time u change strings?

  • wher can i find that guitar

  • i have the worlds worst buzz on my jackson guitar i just got yesterdat will someone plez help me

  • me too :)

  • i dont get it. i start tuning with my low e, go through the rest of the strings and come to that low e again and its way out of tune because ive pulled the flyod rose up tuning the rest of the strings, its a never ending circle. help?

  • @shanerussell86 Where are you tuning from? The tension from tuning your strings shouldn't be so much as to bend your bridge too much if it's already in tune...

I realise you posted this a week ago, did you find a fix?

  • i tune from the headstock before i tighten the lock nuts but i get in that never ending circle where i tune one string and it pulls the rest out of tune..

i got friend to have a look at it but he cudnt get it right so im take into my local music store, they said they would show me how and ill finally get to play cemetary gates in tune..

    thanks man

  • @shanerussell86 That's really stange, I've heard stuff similar but it was pretty easily fixed, I dunno what the issue is here. Good luck.

  • did ur nj deluxe come out great? where did you buy it from

  • thank you so much i just got the bc rich nj deluxe

  • nice.

i got the nj deluxe V with the ebast headstock a few weeks ago

  • the tone king is the man wonderful advice and reviews that arnt full of some guy from a guitar magazine tellin ya useless crap and not actually showing ya anything about the item hes reviewing two thumbs way way up

  • what guitar??????

  • guys, losen the strings or drop the trem own when you adjust the action

or your knife edges will get screwed over time

and tbh you want to have your trem slightly angled upward or after you pull up the tunning will be slightly sharp ^^

    thats what ive found anywayy

  • well you answered half my questions, more than most videos have done for me

  • @Tanzhia

Hey thank you for the tip but thats not my right problem, because my problem now is not chaning strings but when i tune my guitar down from E standard to Drop D the bridge is like going down not parallel and this guy are doing it so easy i just want to know is it really so easy? can i do something wrong that my guitar will go wrong?

  • Hey

My fine tuners/Bridge are not parallel! And I'm very scare to do something wrong but i saw in this video its looks so easy. My guitar is in a E Standard and i tune it down to Drop D and the brdige are not parallel is it so easy to fix it like in this video? Sry for my bad english

  • Its never easy the first time, just do what this guy say and if you do something wrong and you just can't make it work you have to spend some money at the shop. And just a little tip, ask the repairfellow if he can show you what he is doing when fixing the gutiar. Thats how i learned how to change strings on my very first guitar ;)

  • tks man i changed gauge and tuning for the first time, and i was actually afraid to do it myself but thanks to the vid i did it, you cover all the points to make and excellent job, tks again u rule

  • i have an edge pro 3...this works for that too?

  • I need some help, the locking nuts at the top of the neck are a bit worn out and its impossible to tighten them the the allen wrench. when i do them as 'tight' as they can go, it still goes out of tune more often than it use to. Should i get some new locking nuts? thanks.

  • hey thanks man your a fucking legend, couldnt done it without your help,

  • wow thanks a lot!!!!

  • thanks dudee

  • @RapaciousPlague what gauge string do u use?, make sure, if u have ,9s,10s u have 3 springs set like this ( ' /I\ ' ) and i would recomend they be a part of the same set(in the same gauge range)

  • Very helpful, thanks!

  • What order do you tune the strings with a 7-string?

  • @HaySupYo Im pretty sure its beadgbe

  • cool, but he forgot to add the part about using a small block of wood, that is crutial! if u don't have that u can't even intonate it let alone set it up trust me, im experinced with it and put hours into it and have found that it will be very hard! just trying to help :)

  • I've had my ibanez for about 3 weeks and just now set it up, thanks to this video.

  • Thank you so much. Just saved myself 60 dollars. Such a detailed and useful guide. Got my guitar the exact way I want it, and can now actually use my whammy bar to pull up (always put a wooden block under it so I could tune it). I love you.

  • Thanks for the video I was a little hesitant about getting an RG with a floyd rose but now even though it will take a little getting used to it would be a good thing for me to learn.

  • =D very reassuring

  • Do you have to take the tension off the string when intonating a string?

  • ofcourse, cuz otherwise it will be a pain and it is better to loosen the 'string' and make small adjustments, then tune it till u get it super close, and remember, once u set it up with a 'specific' gage of string, u won't have to reset it again, just make sure to stretch strings 1st before doing a trem setup hope this helps! :)

  • oh, and don't forget the block of wood that'll 'hold the bridge stable' in the process of intonating it and balancing it

  • How big does the block of wood need to be to hold the bridge stable ?

  • @ImTheDudeMan420 ya, i forgot to add that the block should be big enough to make the 'bridge sits parrallel to the surface of the body of the guitar' and should be put in the back wher the springs r adjusted, but on edge 3 u have to make sure the 'block of ur bridge' is exactly 90 degrees to the surface for it will be super hard to know if is parrallel just by looking above the surface (ask questions if u don't understand) just wanna help other with the same shit i ran into haha

  • Great video! I was going to have my RG set up by a pro but now I think I can do it myself. Thanks Tone King!

  • thanks dude

  • Yo big guy, nice one !! - hey I just got one outta the box and yep it plays like a bucket of shite !!!, spent 20minz after this vid and its 110% better - hey Im happy now.

Thankz and happy holz buddy !!!! 5 starz

  • very good advice thanks :)

  • when i tune a string to like d i detunes to like a f in like 1 minute

  • Thanks for all the great advise dude. Tomorrow I'm gonna set up my ltd I got today XD.

  • thanks for the help dude now i have a great idea on how to tune mine when i get it anyway

  • the odd this out setting up my guitar was when i set up the trem the intonation was ok...i don't understand why but it was perfect...but i keep you info in my pocket for future problems...thanks it plays great.

  • Patton Oswalt, is that you?

  • @lassilipstick no shit huh

  • im having buzz prob after i change my string gague fuck

  • did you see in his vid where he sets the action of the strings. you have to raise the bridge up alittle untill theres no more buzz.
