Great review! Do you know if you can get this bluetooth feature for music and cellphone that allows talking to another rider or pillion passenger while riding.
you vcan pair the Viper RS v 121 to a mobile phone, etc.
Turn the volume all the way down so that the red and blue lights start to flash and then search from your mobile for devices, then select from list and enter the 0000 pairing code..
I bought two V131 and sent them back. There is a reason why they are only available online. Bluetooth music is ok but if you want intercom forget it, no good over 30mph on my wildstar. The mic is in the cheek pad if it was a boom mic it might work but it doesent. Build quality is very poor. Think about it the cheapest bluetooth is £120 so your looking at a £30 crash helmet. My solution was two £120 Caberg lids with 1X £240 Scarla bluetooth kit. Works 80mph +, if want intercom? forget viper
Hey great review. I'm having trouble finding this helmet online. I know the post is a couple years old. DId any newer helmets come out that are similar. I was looking at O'Neal Racing Tirade Bluetooth Helmet. Anyone know if thats good?
One of my helmets is the tirade, , which I consider good for the price, I like the fm feature ok (if you're riding locally, I mean out of 5 miles range gotta keep changing station), I don't like the fact that isn't a modular helmet though and neither a built-in visor; Phone calls are ok up to 70 mph -and I put some loud pipes on my cruiser-. Another cool feature is mp3 and intercom compatible with another Tirade.
Tirade is ok, DOT approved which is really important in NY since the troopers look for that logo, otherwise they give tickets. Disadvantage on the tirade is that isn't a flip-up; I like the FM radio and intercom to connect to another tirade. Good quality phone calls around 65 MPH -and I got some loud pipes on my cruiser!-
@leaoscp hi it was £119 and I've had it about 2 weeks and really happy with it the only thing I would say that anything over 60mph the sound isn't that great but that's to be expected! The size I already gad my head measured for ny previous helmet abd orders the same size medium and it's a great fit very comfortable hope this helps!!
Was looking at them in eBay and thought I'd check for a review and found this one! Great video all the info I needed so have ordered the helmet keep up the good work!!!
HI, I just got the new Viper 131. I was wondering while your riding, is the music level on the 121 quite. I find that my helmet seems pretty quite, I do like the cover but I was thinking on putting in some even better speakers. I haven't had a chance to check the volume on my bike, we have a ton of snow here. I will half to wait till spring to give it a real go over. Excellent review
Random question regarding using these bluetooth helmets with smartphones, if your phone has music, turn by turn nav, voice calling etc. will all the audio on the phone play through the headset? And is the ability to do so dependent on the phone, or the bluetooth headset?
Thanks for an informative review merlyn. My wife is looking for a flip helmet and she was considering a Caberg trip, but a lot of owners complain about the noise. I like the look of this one, and it has blue tooth already fitted!!.I think the styling of this one looks better also. Have you experienced any excessive wind noise above 70mph?
Hi merlynDHZ, Thanks for the review on this. I'm looking to get one of these after seeing your review, but I'm a little concerned about the location of the mic.
During winter here I need to ride with a breathguard to prevent my visor from misting too much, would this impede use of the mic?
Fantastic review merlynDHZ, very professional, helped soo much that I went ahead and bought one basing on your review! However, it didin't turn out to be as good as expected. May be I was just unlucky! Problems that came with the helmet were, low quality headphones only good for talk , loose screws giving away the side panel upon operating the flip up, volume knob stuck on high volume, stud fasteners keep coming off, steaming. I must give credit to the overall package for the money! Cheers!
Hey, great reveiw. One question. I just got this helmet, and the instructions suck! Where is the charging port for the bluetooth located? It sure is well hidden!
hey merlyn, first off great review!-people need more reviews like this online. so i've narrowed down my decision down to this helmet or the element fastrack helmet and am really not sure which to go with. would you say you're pretty happy with this helmet and have no major complaints? also, my head size is around a 56 (small) and was just wondering whether i should order a size larger like some other helmets sometimes require?
@dooglace mate u should never buy a larger helmet then you head size, coz when u use the new helmet it should eventually accommodate you after a few rides
I'd go with the smaller than larger - it should break in - and it would be less noisy and protect you better (less shifting). These don't "run small" from what I've seen.
Bought one after reading reviews, but not as good as expected. The right hand catch for the chin piece didnt lock, had to bend the catch for it to stay locked. If you squeeze the chin piece hard enough you can open it without the button. When the face is open, sides of helmet feel very flimsy. Internal dark visor is difficult to retract fully by the leaver. Volume control sticks on +. Strap is a weird set up. On the plus side it is very comfy and a good fit (unusual for my XXL head).
Getting the right size helps a lot. But I think its still quieter than the HTC that we've used before (flip up) .. so for a flip up I think its really good.
Merlyn DHZ, Thank you for such a perfect review. I'm from Brazil and after your video, just bought one at e-Bay. Congratulations and thanks once again ifor the time you spent in hekping the other.
Though I do feel you could have spent maybe a minute or two highlighting the downsides to the helmet. I too would recommend the helmet, I like it, but it does have some issues, as the review said, but could have been specific.
Excellent review boss. You covered everything in detail and went so far as to record a call just to demonstrate the quality and what it sounds like. 6/5 stars amigo, great job. Thanx.
i have this helmet, its well worth the money, one thing he did not cover in the bluetooth world , was the gps, it works great with the garmin zummo, so you can have your phone /mp3/satnav/and another rider 1000mtr back coms with them ,the other bluetooth, viper helmet is the "shadow rsv-99, thats a full race helmet , dont flip up , and is cheaper than the 121. well made video, thanks
have just brought the viper 121 bluetooth 2 helmet. I can connect the zumo 660 to the helmet and sounds great, i can also connect my phone to the helmet seperately and that also sounds great. However when i try to connect all three and answer a phone call, it sounds distorted (robotic sound) - any ideas???
I connected the phone to the sat nav and the sat nav to the helmet
One of the best reviews i've ever watched, good effort. whats the battery life like when used for music? how heavy is it compared to a standard full face helmet? cheers, tom. :)
I've never had the battery fail on 3 hour rides. That's with the music blasting. I'd say its solid for up to 3 hours. Its not heavy at all, just get the right size.
Thanks for putting the time and effort into it although there is no reason why you should have a problem with voice commands with any "chip" (module) installed?
The only difference is the Bluetooth 1 module does not support the intercom feature whereas the Bluetooth 2 does.
Thanks ! And Thanks for being a good eBay seller -
I tested the number 2 chip and the voice calling didn't working with my phone .. the number 1 chip did work. Maybe it was my phone. But that's also what the manufacturer stated. Did you guys test it too and found it working?
Can't get voice dialling on my 2 chip, will dial last number only. Shame because that would be useful for calling an ambulance next time I'm in a ditch ;o)
I cant see them making that feature available. In my opinion it would encourage you to remove one hand from the bars thus leaving you more at risk of having a serious accident.
Viper 101 - Old design shell, one speaker, no intercom, no internal drop down visor. These really are not pretty but they are cheap and they do a job. Just not anywhere near as nice as the 121.
Viper 121 - Nice design, 2 speakers, intercom feature available, drop down dark inner visor. Better front closure system.
They are "OK" - but on a motorcycle Hi-Fi isn't realistic anyways. "Loud and clear" is more important than "Crisp and responsive". These speakers are "Loud and Clear". They're definitely NOT Hi-Fi.
That said, I hear the music fine. Hard to be choosy on the motorcycle.
Great review. Will this pair to more than one device at a time and can you listen to music on your phone/MP3 player/IPHONE and a GPS at the same time such as the music cut out and the directions come through then back to music?
Excellent Review! Thank you for testing it at speed so we could hear what it sounded like. :-) I've been keeping my eyes out for a good system that will work with my phone. Thanks to you explaining that this particular helmet comes with two different chips, I would want to get it with the chip that supports voice commands. Hopefully Viper gets this helmet on the fast track to DOT approval in the states! :-)
That almost completely the same as my O'Neal Element helmet. I think its the same exact bluetooth piece. Its sold in the state and not that expensive I got it for $269 flat black. The full flip up is really sweet tho.
