Great highlight. As a shogun fan it was hard for me to not be a lyoto fan for a while, and I was rooting for him against Rashad, but as long as he doesn't fight Shogun again, i'm a huge fan. This made me appreciate how great Lyoto really is.

Yes, of course they are allowed to hit on the ground. It's Mixed Martial Art. It could appear "extreme", but it the way of fighting which is closer from the original fight. So when your opponent is on the ground, you can do some grappling, judo or jujistsu technics to submit your opponent, or hit himl to do a knock out.

and in facts there are some rules (more than in boxing for instance), fighters are not allowed to do anything.
