nothing I love better than a kick-ass guitarist playing laid back blues....(e.g.) Dave Mason, Joe Walsh some early Page, Trower, but this lead starting at 4:56, OMG, get on Dave
the trend in rock went to speed guitarist's, I love speed guitar, love speed guitarists playing slow even better, the 2 best slow rockers (screw EC) were Dave and Joe Walsh, I should probably throw brother Duane in too
Saw Dave front row at The Michigan Palace downtown Detroit 1972 he played this song note for note what a great concert it was. I'm a guitar player and the ending solo in this song in incredible.
His 1st. solo album nailed it, then he kept it up with lots of great albums! "Every Woman" is another classic song, it goes on and on, man what a great artist!

Thank you WGOE radio (1590 on the AM dial ) in Richmond, Va. for giving me a music education back in the 70's. Dave was one of so many you introduced me to.
I remember 35+ yrs. ago we used to drive out to a big hill in the country to get good radio reception and groove to station KAAY Little Rock Arkansas, with Clive Clifford DJ.Blew us all away when he played this album.Back then thats all he used to play.Just requested albums. Great times, and now you get just mainstream drivel at best. Thanks Clive!
Marble Colored Magic...the album vinyl looked liked a hot fudge sundae....and sounded sweeter than it looked......I still have i................t great POST
I knew that it was the beginning of the end for non-commercial radio when Brown University's WBRU started airing ads for Kent cigarettes (I quit smoking cigs in 1969- did I spell it right). BRU could only be heard within a mile or so, when they started. It was a Godsend radio station in the day. The only other station like it was WBCN in Boston. All the best stuff without the time limitations!!!!!
I've learned this tune about 3 1/2 decades ago and I'm jamming with dave again after all these years---AWSOME, same goes for Hendrix the Byrds and of course Jefferson Airplane and the entire 60's/70's crew. Us geezer types must pass on the magic. HENCEFORTH AND FORTHWITH jAM WITH EVERYBODY PLAY OUT AND WRITE NEW TUNES WITH THE SAME SPIRIT!!!!! I'LL BE LISTENING FOR YA!!
Bought this album when it came out not knowing the vinyl would be such a great surprise. Then I heard the this song. Amazing! No flash - just great playing! I heard David Crosby on the 4 Way Street album emplore the crowd to yell louder. I was living in Newport, RI at the time and Mason was starting a US tour by playing Brown University. Had to see him and his great music. The students didn't respond as enthusiastically as I was so I yelled LOUDER and the crowd went wild. Encored twice!
Unfortunately, what passes for "classic rock" today is mainly top 40 rock. Back in the day this was "album oriented rock." Now, you have to go to XM or Sirius to come close.
yeah, it's a bit simple, but is strong and effective, and was early on so it was not a rip off of someone else. i remember that solo almost note for note decades later ... it's a classic.
Yes. I was in college when this album came out and it is an absolute "stunner." Great, great album. This is one of those rare albums that you've never heard and when hear it you say, "WTF is this? Where did this come from?" You say to yourself, "where have I been for the last ten years?" Then you put it on and listen to it 7 hours a day for the next two weeks and every time you do, you notice something else you didn't notice in the previous listen and then you play that part over five times.
Young listeners need to get their hands on this LP. It's one of the greatest rock albums of all time and rarely gets a mention these days. Dave puts on a great live show if you have the chance to see him.
@reg5381 i've got all the great songs from this album but had forgotten about this one. ironically, this was always my favorite one off of his album. how could i have forgotten this incredible song? thank you so much for posting and for the awesome quality in the recording. i'm blasting my system as i type this post!
'Has that "only you know and I know" thing going on....no wonder, with cast of Russell, D&B, etc. Just GREAT! And, I found out today Mason is British. 'Always thought he was American for some reason.....
In the early 70s I bought my first really terrific stereo outfit. The guy from the store actually came out and installed it. Then he asked me what album I wanted to play to test it out, and it was this album. One of the best guitar and vocal albums ever.
Always liked this song. First heard it on WKLS 96 Rock Atlanta in the mid-70's. That was an awesome rock station that was only rivaled by the "Beaker Street" program on KAAY AM Little Rock, Arkansas. Good rock music that I still enjoy today!
Boy, does this bring back some memories. Unbelievable classic album that never got it's due. This guy is insane. Had it all - rocking piano by Leon Russell totally inside out drums, organ, strumming acoustic guitar, fantastic vocals by Dave, and knock-it-out-of the park guitar solo by Dave himself, it never got any better than this.
One of the all-time great albums by a great under-rated song-writer. Most definitely Eric Clapton does not play on this album. Dave is a good player but a better singer and song writer; he plays just right for his stuff, but he's not Eric Clapton.
Me and my Sis brought our 4 children up on this and music like it... forget all the technical stuff - music is for listening and enjoying... We still love it and the vinyl will be out next week-end when I visit... We love ya Dave

The fucked up part, CLASSIC ROCK RADIO never heard of this album!! If you didn't buy this album when it came out,you didn't have any money!!! ROCK WAS NEVER ANY BETTER !!!
@Unclemoparman ..Probably because FM radio was fast becoming ''commercial radio''...as in running alot of advertisement to pay for those ''great DJ's''..and starting to play HITS instead of album cut's that rock from bands that didn't make Rolling Stones acknowledged list of ''COOL''. Some Madison Avenue asshole dreamed up Classic Rock Radio in the 80's and the rest is history on killing us with Boston and Eddie Money every hour!
