  • hi, check out, "32 rules to survive a horror movie" on my channel

  • bad squirrells is my fav

  • People must have been very patient in the 70's.

  • I have seen Magic. Good movie.

  • Seen all of them except Let's Scare Jessica to Death. The Other and Magic are the best of the bunch, with The Other being tops.

  • The Exorcist #1

  • now i know why nobody saw them

  • 1:15

  • The last 3 (Let's Scare Jessica to Death; The Other; Magic) are underrated classics I'd definitely recommend to horror fans.

  • Title of my life. (youve probably never seen them)

  • @HeadstrongSiblings The original title was "I KNOW you've never seen them"

  • The first clip is from Money Pit, right?

  • Top 5 underrated horror films (You've probaly never seen them).......No I haven't seen them and judging by how shit they look, I (Probaly never will see them).

  • @ViceCityVacation im wiv u on dat. dis is a peice of shit. who wants 2 see sum low budgit 60s movie. they r unknown 4 a reason

  • your pic shows lets scare jessica to death. I loooove that movie, bad acting and all. have you seen dr. calagria (sorry about the spelling), not the porn one or the one they show blatently. It's weird fun! anyone know how to get a copy of the Bob Dobbs Church of the Subgenius stuff? I want to watch that again, and remember what it means to truly be a slacker

  • @TheKrissymac007 lol. Nothing like making money off other people being lazy.

  • Comment removed

  • i have lets scare jessica. it is known

  • never heard about them =/, I would like to see the last one :o

  • sleep away camp freaked me out as a kid

  • House was classic

  • You know there are probably good reasons why nobody's heard of these movies.

  • Keep playing 3:52 OMFG HAHA

  • Let's scare Jessica to death is known to just about everyone!

  • You obviously grew up in a certain time period because all of your choices seem to come from the same era

  • I thought the first and fourth ones looked like it had some real merit. The others, not as much. :( It's sad because as I was watching the preview for the first film, I was like "wow this is surprisingly good."

  • ive seen them all and im 14

  • Sleepaway camp was by far one of the most underrated horror films. The ending was epic.

  • Underrated my ass thier fucking complet bollocks

  • @crossycrossfield yeah mate you'r spot on, they are shite lol

  • did magic have Anthony hopkins in it watched it as a child and now i hate ventriloquist forever .

  • Very True

  • underrated for a reason... they suck!

  • I wasn't planning on going to bed anyways, no problem.

  • I praise you for including 'The Other." I don;t know enough about the others to judge.

  • Ahh and The Other, also a very creepy film. Very nice.

  • Burnt Offerings is a very fine horror film, always worth a good scare.

  • check out the New Zealand film (a down-under award winner) called Perfect Creature; it's one of the best re-telling of the vampire myth there is. Totally ignored Stateside.

  • I remember seeing magic when I was little, it was okay. I also saw part of the other not too long ago, but I didn't get to finish it. Always figured the big twist was that one of the twins wasn't real, or something along that line.

  • Well I'm going on 48 y/o and I totally remember watching these last 3.....the part with the pitchfork I will never forget and still refuse to jump down into any hay stacks....and the movie "Magic" with the dummies....FORGET ABOUT IT!! Can't stand to watch movies with V-dummies in em to this day :-Þ

  • The little doll one with the shaking head, fukd me up as a child.

  • I have to say, Let's Scare Jessica to Death is not a great movie. A wonderful title that the film, unfortunately, doesn't live up to. In terms of atmosphere it is really fantastic, but the film is pretty unsatisfying.

  • these films are only pg for fucks sake.

  • No offence, but what was the point of the first clip. It doesn't exactly contain any horror or anything scary.

  • @Matthewkilb That's what I was trying to find out. I'm thinking he was just trying to show the atmosphere that that film had.

  • @Lumberjackowns Yes. I explained this a few times before below. To me, horror movies aren't just about being scary. They're also about tone, mood and atmosphere (which I think the Fright scene sets up well even though nothing really happens). I do agree now the scene from Fright isn't the best representation of the movie and is kind of out of place in regards to the other scenes. I know what scene I'd put in there now, but I simply don't want to go back and replace it.

  • its probably a good thing not many people have seen them as hollywood will just ruin them with more shitty remakes! btw is that susan george from straw dogs at the start? she was tasty back in the day

  • no wonder no one's ever seen these movies. that guy at 4:20 looks like he's masturbating himself to death while looking at that 99 cent doll!

  • what is the name of the creepy potty doll with 'scanners' powers movie?

  • That movie magic started all of the scary dolls movies.

  • Would you consider THE BEAST MUST DIE and underrated horror film???

  • What about Legend of Hell House?

  • does anyone know how to get ahold of the movies that Elvira hosted on Movie Macabre years ago?...i'm looking for a movie that is set in a funeral home...the mortician takes in someone from the rain, and tells them stories about the various people who have died and how they died and ended up at his funeral home...

  • idk why, but when i was little i find zombie movies ad games as porns O_O

  • the doll ahahaha

  • " They're all from the 70's. A time when horror movies were creepy and atmospheric. Elements severely lacking in most modern horror movies "

That is so so TRUE ! :)

  • I hate creepy dolls

  • I found 'The Devils Rain' really scary when I saw it, aged about 12. I'm not sure if it actually would be if I saw it now but it's another that I don't hear too much about.

  • lol hipster title: "you've probably never seen them"

  • @noone2975 The hipster in me couldn't help but put back and fix the title to your exact wording.

  • 8:28 "C'mon Oprah" Who else heard that?

  • What would be an horror film without clocks, mirrors, and puppets if they are not mytical cratures in it.

  • Oh my goodness... Let's Scare Jessica To Death is a FANTASTIC movie.

  • I've seen all 5 (on first run and most at the drive-in). I liked Let's Scare Jessica to Death, The Other and Magic best. You left out A Reflection of Fear and Welcome to Arrow Beach, those were great 70's drive-in horror flicks.

  • I own them all. I own a few too many movies.

  • before Chucky there was Fats, which is ten times more horrifying

  • I need help finding a movie from a sample I have...It starts by saying "Im a satanist, I believe in the dark lord, Hiws time has come (Inaudible), Christ worshipers will be slaughtered" it goes on some more, but does ANYONE know what movie thats from? Its got to predate 1994 so im guessing 70s - mid 80s? Im goin bat shit trying to figure this out.

  • jeepers creepers still scares the shit out of me

  • where is The Poltergeist?

  • @AdrenalineHeat It's not underrated....One of the most famous horror ever!

  • @Lucignolone90 yeah ryt

  • I grew up on all of those movies.Great choices.

  • No decade will EVER beat the 70's for creepy films.....so glad I grew up then, and can still appreciate their greatness!!!!

  • Nice selection. Some of those tidbits seem mighty intriguing.

  • i never see stupids movies in my life

  • well, that's the problem. todays horror movies are torture films.

  • @gethsenamane So true

  • I agree with what you say about modern horror films. They show too much and don't leave any room for imagination. What you don't see is creepy.

  • Thumbs up if you saw unrated and came here to see some boobies.

  • "Magic" and "Let's Scare Jessica to Death" look really cool. Thanks.

  • @6:30 jeninifers body?

  • Crawlspace was another weirdo one. I am 46 yrs. old, grew up with a 17 yr. old sister when i was about 8. She and her girlfriends use to make me watch these damned movies! Tortuous for an 8 yr. old! Been emotionally scarred for life by all these "horrors", as they were called back then! But, I tell ya, it is almost worth the scarring, cause I was part of the history of, "The best damned horror movies of all time"!!! These films made one 'think'. Even today, it is hard for me to watch one!

  • Nice list. I'm a HUGE horror movie fan and the 70's is a great era. My favorite is Burnt Offerings (1976). Lets Scare Jessica To Death and Magic are great. The other 3 i havent seen but The Other is actually on tonight on tcm so im gonna check it out. Also, if you want to go back even further - check out some Vincent Price movies. Hes my favorite.

  • @ECWdxGyrl

Burnt Offerrings scared the living hell out of me as a child.....it still does!

  • @debgibsonfan me too! oh my god, the guy in the sunglasses that drives the hearse! so creeepy!!

  • @debgibsonfan Anthony James in that still frightens the hell out of me. It's hard to believe he was Pale Rider with Clint Eastwood.

  • carnival of souls, have you ever seen carnival of souls? have you ever seen it.........on weeed? watch dave chapelles movie "half baked".

  • jessica's bathing suit looks like it's made of bacon.

  • Magic was pretty big in theaters.

  • Yes, the lovely Susan George.

  • Yes, the lovely Susan George.

  • isnt the blonde girl in fright from straw dogs?

  • that jessica click looks creepier than hell!might have to check it out.clip lol;who is that actress ,she looks fam.

  • that jessica click looks creepier than hell!might have to check it out.

  • They used to show "Let's Scare Jessica to Death" on TV when I was young in the early '70s. Mariclare Costello is still the scariest ghost/vampire I have ever seen in a film.

"The Other" is based on the bestseller by author/actor Tom Tryon ("Harvest Home"). It's well-known, directed by the renown Robert Mulligan.

  • Looks like i have some more movies to add to the list of movies i must see, thanks.

  • The last two (The Other and Magic) are ones I've been wanting to see for years. The others...not so much. Another highly underrated 70s horror film is Full Circle (aka The Haunting of Julia), with Mia Farrow and based on a novel by Peter Straub. I watched the entire movie here on youtube.

  • @acidjack73 Yes. The Haunting of Julia is another and I would've included it in this list had it not slipped my mind when I made this.

  • @genursus have you seen Scarecrows? great underrated horror film.

  • @acrocanthosaurus4 Yes. I have. I do like it. I suppose it is underrated as well.

  • @genursus

Silent Night, Deadly Night from1984 about a killer santa clause!!

  • @genursus 2 underrated horror movies are Nightwing(1979) and The Town that Dreaded Sundown(1976)

  • @genursus Even if you missed the haunting of julia, this list is good. Let's scare Jessica of death is among my all time favorites to use to show my friends how beautiful horror cinematography can be.

  • OMG I Can't Believe You Found "The Other" Thats One My Moms Favortie Movies I Love The Movie As Well Way To Go

  • LOOOL WTF, A DOLL KILLED THEM OH NO

  • I think alot of people know about lets scare jessica to death

  • they all looked pretty shit

  • puppets...... i HATE PUPPETS and clowns 2 after i watched IT and now i'm all scared shtless cause i remember the movies now jeez clearly i should not have watched chucky or jeepers creepers and all that when i was under the age of 10 im to sensitive now p.s this is my aunts account

  • Whoever uploaded this has good taste. I never heard of it but i'm going to watch the whole thing & pretend Hollywood just made it a period piece just for me! Awesome!

  • Reminds me of the Grindhouse trailer 'Don't!'

  • i so love the house in the first movie...

  • Magic is defiantly a good movie. I seen it at least twice.

  • i seen scare jessica and magic there not bad

  • MAGIC is pretty damn far from "underrated"...

  • what about scanners

  • the only thing worse than an arrogant music hipster snob is an arrogant MOVIE hipster snob. They use the word "film" in order to sound more intelligent than they actually are, and they're all failed directors. Or wannabe directors who are doomed to fail.

  • I have seeN lets scare jessica to death aNd the other which i was lucky to fiNd oN dvd so Now i owN it aNd i have seeN magic all great horr0r movies this is wheN they kNew h0w to really scare you.nothing like old horror movies.

  • Apparently 1971/72 were 2 very scary years...these all look good and I never heard of them before.

  • That doll scared the fuck outta me

  • @thedirtyhippie01 which film was that?

  • @Smallvillenerd The last one where his face popped outta nowhere and he started talking. Made me jump.

  • Weird how 70s wallpaper makes you laugh in real life, but makes a horror film scary as hell.

  • For a good modern under-rated horror, Pontypool is really good imo. Not creepy like these, but a good one.

  • movies of today focus too much on grossing you out than trying to scare you. Sad that we have become so de-sensatized ....

  • HORROR is severly lacking in most modern horror movies!

    Good list.

  • Hm lets start it off in a slighty errie setting with a good looking girl in a little skirt for easy access i suppose

  • I thought I was a Horror Movie expert, but ive only seen two of these .I willl add the others to my "To See" List .Thanks for posting.

  • you probaly havnt seen? fucking hipsters

  • @dannyboyemo First off...it's 'you've probably never seen' and second...have you?

  • @genursus yeh ive seen 3 of em, nd its a joke calm down

  • @dannyboyemo I was joking too. I'm as calm as can be.

  • @dannyboyemo You see like a douchebag. That's just my opinion.

  • @genursus Your clearly mad bro.

  • @genursus

Ghost Story and a TV film titled "Ruby" with Piper Laurie are also two frequently overlooked horror films that scared the crap out of me! I think GS was actually fairly popular when it was released, but quickly faded away. Another few great ones (in my opinion) are Wolfen, The Changeling (Canadian film starring George C. Scott), and The Sentinel. have you seen any of these? Oh, and also the original Cat People (1944), and the '82 remake.

  • @jerico641 I've seen all those and yes, they are indeed more good examples of underrated horror.

  • @genursus

Cool; well as long as we're around, anyway, we'll know that films like these won't die out lol.

  • @dannyboyemo:

I don't take this as a 'hipster' thing. I would assume he means you probably haven't seen them.. you know.. not because you aren't cool enough but more of because of various releases. Limited release, etc.

    Chill out.

  • Only The Other looked genuinely scary. The first one had no context...just a girl in the house, while the second one had me in stitches (a doll being shaken in front of a camera lol), and the Jessica one is dated. The Magic one just plays into a fear of dolls...David Strassman's Chuck is far creepier and he's meant to be funny.

  • loser

  • "La Cabina" (1972) needs to be on any list.

  • This is exactly what I was looking for. Im a horror movies fan and Ive had a hard time trying to find good horror movies that don't look fake and stuff like most mainstream modern movies are. Thank's again!

  • no wonder iv never seen them

  • Jessica needs to be scared to death for wearing such a hideous bathing suit.

  • Hey, Check out the horror movies me and my crew shoot. We've been doing it for about 2 years now. Just take a look at it. Comment and Subscribe! Thanks guys :)

  • Well 'Magic is a fairly well known and popular flick.

  • Horror? Where the hell is Cannibal Holocaust? Decent List of underground flicks, and yes I'm sure most people never even knew these existed (I've only seen 'Let's Scare Jessica To Death' and 'FRIGHT').

  • @ArchDukeFrancis1914 Everybody's heard of Cannibal Holocaust.

  • These look amazing, not like the cheap shocky crap you get these days

  • I've found a movie called The Wizard of Gore, is it any good?

  • @TheSpawnfan If its the original Herschell Gordon Lewis version its an awesome gore flick, if its the Grispin Glover remake.. stay away.

  • @976IveGottaSplit It's the remake, is it that bad?

  • @TheSpawnfan Actually.. it isn't THAT bad.. Just nothing in comparison to the original. Crispin Glover is sort of the saving grace for it, so as long as you haven't seen the original first you may enjoy it!

  • @976IveGottaSplit I saw the remake (rented it) and it isn't that bad, but now i want to see the original... in those remakes they never stay true to the original. An example is A Nightmare on Elm Street, i liked the fact that they brought Freddy back to his cruel and dark personality, not that silly jokester the other directors made him, but, did they really have to turn him into a child molester as well as a child killer? and he wasn't really defeated by his true weakness...

  • @TheSpawnfan Actually that was part of the original concept by Wes Craven, I forgot why they took that out though...

  • @Slayerfan777 I guess they were too "purists" in hollywood by that time. And them putting fire as his weakness in Freddy vs. Jason makes no sense, i mean, how could he "work" near a furnace if he was afraid of fire? his weakness is the absence of fear, not fear of fire.

  • The scariest book ever written: "Thirteen Volume One".

    You should Google it.

  • Good list, I've got a written list in the same vein.

    ihogeek.com/2011/10/01/top-5-horror-movies-you-probably-havent-seen/

  • See George Romero's Martin. It'll scare the bejesus into you.

  • I've seen two of the five movies you have listed. That is Let's Scare Jessica to Death and Magic. I would like to see the others that you've listed. I love discovering new movies to add to my list of horror movies.

  • DONT LOOK NOW scared me ,VENICE in winter , all the scenes with dark creepy shadows by the canals and a plot that makes you work ,there are hints throughout the film but the ending still shocks, a slow burner but well worth it.

  • @DuracellAcrobat

well obviously that film is 'The Fly'

  • my friends and i have a movienight every week, all next month is halloween i love 70s horror. im taking some of these into concideration. I love lets scare jessica to death but i think its kinda slow... do you recomend anything a little quicker paced with that same atmosphearic creepyness?

  • Truelly great movies. Your taste is excelent!

  • the other is like wat the hell showing nothing screaming all for nothing there is nothign goin on. also scaring jessica to death just lookd horrible

  • Anybody else wanna ram the chick in fright in the face?

  • @Luigi84289 dude, she's like 6, ha

  • Lol @ 4:29

  • Susan George was way too damn fine. Or just fine enough, I should say.

  • @ThePrimaryDirective Yeah, I recently bought "Straw Dogs". It was the first time I ever saw her, and she was smoking hot!

  • Susan george, yum! When I was 13 stayed up many a night watching 'horror' films, just happened that Ladies featured quite prominently...

  • I've seen the last 3 of these. If you haven't already check out "The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane", "Last House On Dead End Street", "Alice Sweet Alice" and "Don't Look Now" you might like them.

  • it sounds like the kids pissed for 3 minutes

  • You should list them in the description for those of use who do not want to watch the whole thing.
