for what it's worth, there are always two of the presidents limo and they basically rotate in a circle while driving so that no one knows where he is. same with his helicopter, there is always two or three of them flying together.
It's usually the most loved Presidents that end up assassinated. McKinley, Lincoln, and Kennedy. Reagan and FDR were almost killed while in office. Yet there hasn't been a realized attempt on Bush's life. Popular Presidents are the most targeted for some reason, which is probably why the Secret Service has taken Obama's security to a whole another level.

I've seen a video here where his limo broke down and they had to use the other one so it does act as a back up.
If you freeze the movie it looks like Bush sitting in the back seat.
It is "excessive" but we had good luck just happening upon this as we were tourists and they put on a good show.
