God bless you, may u succeed million times more!

  • Don't hire a webdesigner ? Yes their are different prices depending on what you need.

Go ahead and pay some "friend" 150$ to make your site, or do it yourself, or buy a wordpress template, but by doing that, you're company will not be "unique".

Also by hiring a professional, he knows exactly how to show what you want to your users via your website, knows what to do and what not to do.

  • why I hate web designers...

yes you are right, to make a site with some functions they ask to me 10.000 euro and 2 months. I made in 20 days and spend 250 euro...and it's mine

  • Same with Web Design. Don't hire a web site designer, do it yourself or give your friend $100s to design it.

  • Try using stock images which have not been bought before (order by downloads-ascending in any of the agency search engines), you could also use tine-eye or google image search to check for existence on the web on any comp of a stock photo... or even actually pay more than a few dollars for a stock photo and buy it rights-managed or for exclusive use.

It's more expensive, but it's still cheaper than setting up your own shoot for every website or commissioning a photographer on assignment.

  • plus they are overpriced

  • Good points Mike! I have created sleek and professional web images with regular / basic camera and sometimes even my cell phone camera -- but got lots of help from Photoshop. Having creativity and some Photoshop skill, almost any photo can be improved and enhanced.

  • I know some photography from classes at school, but what would be a good camera to buy that is not too expensive, but still worthwhile and will give high quality images?

  • Another great video!

  • I hate stock photos too!! I always opt for custom photos first. Stock is a last resort!

  • Can find photos with Creative Common use license on Flickr.

  • Hi Mike I agree with you. Your video quality looks really great!

  • Good tools are always important and help a craftsman do a better job. However good tools do not make the craftsman. The same is true of photography and most other things. Photography is a learned art which for some is more natural then others.

  • Hulk Smash!

  • Would you (or anyone) be able to suggest a relatively high quality camera for a graphic design student with a budget of around £100?

  • it looks like you used a 50mm 1.8 or 1.4 lens to take those photos.. really nice bokeh in the background, something i don't think the stock lens could have created.

  • Agreed.

  • I really want to learn photography beyond the basics this year. Taking my own shots is something I have wanted to do for a long time, especially since I have access to some pretty decent camera equipment.

  • I agree, they're not very original are they? Just hire a photographer or take your own. simple.

    Images can always be edited.

  • One more point: :)

-- Basic photography skills lets you distance yourself from the competition. There are a lot of website designers. There are lot of photographers. There are fewer designers with photography skills. Besides, what happens when a client wants product photos or photos of a team for an 'about' page?

  • @nvj944 Yes, excellent points.

  • Great tips. I agree with you completely. I like custom photos too. Gonna check out nest.

  • Excellent points Michael. Might I add:

-- Custom photography can help you be a more creative designer. Designers often design around their images. Taking custom photos gives you control over the entire site. The best sites I've seen tell a compelling story and rarely do stock images, with their canned nature, accomplish exactly what you're trying to say.
