i want to get rid of the carpet on my stairs but am still undecided if laminate or solid wood treads (lowes red oak stairtrek). would you have an idea which one would give me longer durability? thanks! very nice video btw, stairs are looking great!
Trip hazard anyone? Anything that sticks up on the stairs is just criminally negligent. No matter HOW CHEAP something is...it's not worth risking someone getting hurt. Laminate should never go on stairs unless it has a LEVEL nosing and that's the ONLY time...

Beautiful job! Can you tell me how you tuck the laminate under the base board that you undercut? I can see how you could do it on one end, but how about on the other end? Thanks.
For the top of the tread...I cut it into angles to where it resembled the bottom/left part of an octagon. I think I was able to get it with 4 or 5 small pieces to wrap the tread. Just be careful not to cut the top tread to far back or else the stair nosing wont cover the rounded riser. For the bottom riser I used a thin veneer which I painted white...to match the rest of the mdf risers. Nice to hear from you...g'luck.
