  • i used to have this eas but before it said the natonal weather service in greenville it said in a low voice please stand by for weather information

  • awesome!!!

  • i used to have this eas alert

  • my QVC channel is 15 too...they always pick this channel i guess because QVC isnt that important lol

  • I guess the cable system is trying to advertise QVC products. Heh.

  • Probably because it's the first screen for the EAS ive ever seen. But, back then i was younger, so it freaked the hell outta me, especially on April 20, 2004. Damn, THAT was scary. Holy Shit.

  • They used to show these screens for my area back in '03 and '04. But Chicago's now using the plain ol' gray sreen. Nothing all that special, but...it is the EAS.

  • FAAAAAAAAk i thought this was 4 a paintball gun i just bought of amazon, i thought it was summin bad with the gin :I

  • You're a free man, Poe.

  • Man, EAS messagtes freak the hell outta me for some reason...

  • I like this EAS system better than your home one.

  • We Kentuckians know that warning quite well. Thunderstorms and tornadoes are in this area all the time.

  • they used to do the whole tune to 5 crap but now they atoumadicaly do it

  • How did you record directly from the TV?

  • @ELTIGREROCKS10NEW Uh....TV tuner that's hooked up to the PC and can record....?

  • @redoctober90 i nvr knew that

  • awesome!!

  • i live in louisville, ky and here it's called "Insight digital" aka "communications" and now when ever we have a severe storm it mutes then the box say EaS and then the usual

  • man that beeep stuff sounds like somewone saying a bad word on the eas

  • Do you have Bresnan Communications? Bresnan looks exactly like that.

  • @computerman78654 It was Insight Communications back in 2008...I don't know if it's still there anymore (haven't been back in two years). But I've seen a lot of different cable companies who will use that same scroll. If you look at some of my other videos of EAS, you'll see the black screen one which is used across the nation.

  • I don't think I'll ever get over that tone they play at the beginning. I don't know what it is but it creeps me out. I listen to the radio when I sleep then in the middle of the night I hear ehehrrehhre...erheerhrhehr...erherherherhe...and it wakes me right up.

  • @drummerdo0od Supposedly, that carries the type of warning, times, and counties in that sound. It is annoying, but it's how it works, I guess.

  • @redoctober90 100% correct. and to add to it, the reason it goes off 3 times is so that the receiving device can compare all 3 tones to make sure its the same. not sure what happens if it isn't, though :)

  • Nice capture! God Almighty that attention signal just gives me the creeps, so why I continue to listen to them is a mystery but it is what it is.

  • Damn it...I really wanted that diamond band too.

  • dang a Severe Thunder Storm Warning in Ticker Tape form

  • i dont get why the tone is louder on the red screen than it is when they're giving out the warning. good video anyway

  • Ridiculous, anytime severe weather or an amer alert hits my area, the EAS NEVER ACTIVATES! No matter how dangerous the situation is!

Actually, the EAS was activated a few weeks ago for an amber alert, i guarantee it's the only time it'll ever be activated for a non test reason!

  • Comment removed

  • T-storm it is raining T's.

  • So when someone advertises a new car for 30K, you run down to the dealer with 30 K's in your hand? (You know someone had to say that, Kelly Bundy! hahaha)

  • Wow i punched the EAS Once

  • I tried to punch the eas but IT WAS IN THE TV!!!

  • right before the eas came.

  • YAY!!! he made it to channel 15!!!

  • WTF?! Thunderstorm warning, here in Holland you need to read on T-Text if the Weather Service Gave alarm....

  • Bah. Northwest Oregon EAS alerts are only for Winter storm warnings(last December, 2008. 11" of snow), Severe thunderstorms, and child abductions. And always tests, too.

  • I was watching Hannah Montana and our EAS Screen is ONLY Black. Required Weeklyi Test is in Our Place Before.

Written on the state/city: Louisville, KY

    Austin, Indiana

  • I'm trying to concentrate on the pretty diamonds and not the sound.

  • omg....that sound scares meh

  • i hate that eas sound but i got over it by recording it and cursing at it

  • did it stop?

  • did what stop

  • the eas.

  • the eas

  • i love eas

  • You love it, eh? Tell ya what... If you have cable TV... try going to sleep with the TV on for a whole week....

  • me too pause at 0:28 my eas looks just like that except it is green and doesn't let me know when an alert is happening.

  • Whenever i'm recording a show,it never records the EAS,it always cuts over it.

  • really?

  • the guy at the beginning of the warning sounds half asleep lmao

  • @zuplop12 yeah UHHH * snoring * * big boom * AHH WHO WHAT WHERE WHEN? OH...tune into channel 15 lolz

  • Nice video. Lol you were watching Con Air at the beginning XD

  • Actually, I had The Weather Channel on and saw the Severe Thunderstorm Warning on there and decided that it was important to try and beat EAS to channel 21 (as noted in the video) but that's OK.

  • doesnt eas take over every station?

  • Yes, but after I tried switching over to another channel, I couldn't get there fast enough to catch the entire message.

  • In australia we have the same sort of channel it is the only channel left open if you have closed you pay tv account. The reason it is left open is for EAS messages

  • You have to switch channels? The EAS here takes over every station.

  • I hope that the FCC doenst plan on putting the EAS syatem online.

  • LOl cover your ears! I love thhese things!

  • XD! LOL

  • LOL u were trying to beat it to channel 15 lol

  • Approximately how far are you from the areas mentioned?

  • This particular storm passed just to the south of my apartment, across the Ohio River in Henderson, KY. I was living in eastern Evansville, IN, at the time.

  • hey this happened to me once and i got scarred

  • "We'll try to bring it back...aaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA..."

  • Nice Video.

  • Haha, poor QVC. If there's a warning issued for my area, channel 15 picks it up, too, so WGN gets the alert message... which is kind of ironic; a Chicago station picking up on Kansas City's severe weather.

  • In Omaha, Cox Cable picks it up on 19, which is TV Guide.

  • Tv Guide and QVC are the two channels that pick up the most eas messages

  • Conway, Arkansas's EAS is shit!

  • In My Area That Same Scroll Comes Across The Top And That Same Voice Comes On. The Only Difference Is He Tells Us To Turn To Channel 23 Not 15.

  • Last time I saw the EAS in my town, they did the red screen thing at 0:27, but it was for an AMBER alert and it said tune to channel three. That was a while ago, though. Now, they don't even interrupt us for anything, like tornado warnings. Our old system used to interrupt with a blue screen, a high-pitched tone, and some guy announcing the warnings to us, and that was it. Also, our EAS tests should still be just like 0:27, but green.

  • thatsd what it looks like in west virginia except its channel 2

  • Cool, when did you know when the alert was going out, though?

  • TWC beat everyone, and I had my DVR rolling, so I bet that since TWC has a direct server line to NWS and the EAS saps off of Weatheradio, I knew I had a little time.

  • ...What's TWC, NWS, and what do you mean by the alert sys "saps" off of "Weatherradio?"

    Sorry, I'm clueless ;D

  • TWC= The Weather Channel

    NWS= National Weather Service

Weatheradio= NOAA Weatheradio, all weather band which broadcasts a computerized weather message over the VHF band from 162.435-162.550 MHz.

And saps means that prior to the relay of the message on the EAS, the cable company gets a full text and reading of the message before it airs. Usually, The Weather Channel beats everyone because they get messages directly from NWS whereas cable gets it from the radio, which the radio lags behind TWC.

  • Oh, I see. So that means that TWC sounds the alert first.. You should work for the FCC lol

  • well I agree with not talking on the phone but that corded phones you are not to talk on but you are safe talking on portable phones including cell phones

  • Uh, it's a joke....exaggeration.

  • Here the EAS takes over all of the channels.

  • Same here.

  • Mine did that once.

  • Haha I live here XD {Hendo~}

    I'm wondering though... why did you record this? XD;

Also I saw someone else ask this: Yes for all storms it cuts through ALL channels. This includes T-Storm and Tornados.

  • Actually I think I read that wrong.

Channel 15 is the only channel the EAS shows on. However the cable automatically changes it to the channel P:

  • I hate to say this, but my top viewed video is an EAS bulletin from Pittsburgh, PA, so there is a market for them....:)

  • That Voice That Says "The Emergency Alert System Has Been Activated. Please Tune To Channel 15 for further details" Is Scary!!!

  • I had one of those on July 17&18th and recorded them all and i was in one too

  • Why does your cable company require you to tune to a specific channel number to hear the Emergency Alert System message, and also when there is a Tornado Warning does it override the whole cable system as a whole or do you have to tune to a specific channel for TOR warnings as well?

  • 1. Don't know why, chances are it's because there's an override channel a la WeatherSTARs....I guess you have to give people who don't care options, else they will jump ship to DISH...

    2. I'll be able to answer that provided we have a tornado warning while I'm here in EVV.

  • What's the point of EAS anyway?

  • Type in "Evansville, IN Tornado, 2005" and you'll know why. The storm struck in the middle of the night and passed through the suburbs, and had the Weatheradios (EAS) not been set off, chances are the F4 tornado could have killed thousands.

  • Scary. O_O

  • Do they have EAS in Canada?

  • I think they do, but if you guys don't, then your lucky.

  • Cool, for Cablevision on Long Island we have the same graphics package as the first EAS screen. Not sure about the scrolling, though. Awesome vid!

  • That's different than here in.....uh never mind. We don't use the EAS for anything in MA (Except the monthly test) See brainsponge for EAS test conducted last year in MA.

  • We used to have that EAS font on our cable system. In fact, we used to have Insight Communications too here in Peoria, IL.

    Comcast sucks!

  • ahh... so that's how henderson, KY did their EAS. not as intrusive as my local EAS [and they at least told what the concern was, ours just brings up the program data bar from the on screen guide but with the "oh so urgent" message where the show details would be.]

[when i lived in morganfield/Earle C Clements, they just had the annoying Blue screen and REALLY LOUD and grating EAS tone ]

  • Yea, I guess that's right. Anyways, I should clear the air up about the specifics on this warning. I actually taped this in Evansville, IN but the warning was for Henderson, and since it seems like we're all in one happy EAS party in the tristate, I would say that this is the same.

  • Wow, that's really different than the one here in Pittsburgh!
