  • he doesnt sound like the host on bbc.... :)

  • I've been watching A Bit of Fry and Laurie and Black Adder today, had that omg, that's House! moment, and sought an interview to hear his British accent. Lol, he was so goofy in the old days! I remember Jeeves and Wooster from my childhood. I've ordered the first one from Netflix. Can't wait!

  • lol how many people didnt knew that he is british. He was an awesome actor long before House M.D guys.

  • she just wasted this interview talking about nonsense.

  • hey where is his staff?

  • Great comedians are great actors!

  • I love that he and Stephen are still like brothers.

  • OMG! ive never heard his accent before!

i would have never guessed!? loll

    I LOVE HOUSE!<3

  • Quite the charming character indeed.

  • Omg! I knew he was British, but I hadn't really heard him speak before this in a normal voice! He speaks flawlessly in House!

  • ahh so love him!

He does a great accent. I love how on the how sometimes talks in his normal voice.. Then ppl think "wow! he does a great british accent" lol

  • So sweat that moment with Stephen and Hugh! True friendship <3 Love them <3

  • @HughHouselover Thanks for pointing Stephen out! I didn't even notice him when I watched it. I'm sure Stephen said, "Nice work, m'colleague!" as he patted Hugh on the back. :D

  • When I first saw this vid, I was freaking out. I have never heard Hugh Laurie before now. He does a PERFECT American.

  • hehe he always wears bow-ties. sexy *q*

  • was that stephen fry sitting next to him?

  • YEA :) I thought that too

  • i seriously didnt know he was british!!!!

  • Oh for f- the show's been on since 2004 and he's been doing work forever - you must have heard him in his normal voice before!

  • its soo crazy how in house he makes that american accent sound soo fluent

  • I'm rather attracted to this lady.

  • I love hugh! I knew him WAAAAY before he was House! I still think he's funnier in black adder than in house...

  • He was amazing in blackadder the third

  • he was great in "a bit of Fry and Laurie" also.

  • he's not, but rep points for you, not many people know that he was on black adder.

he was really funny on it too.

  • She could have asked so much more because he had SO MUCH MORE TO GIVE.

  • That interviewer is treating him like a moron. Stupid questions.

  • holy shit how does he get his voice on house? Hes fruckin amazing...yes i did say fruckin.

  • Maybe people think he's spanish because he gave Ellen Degeneres a "How to learn Spanish" thing once.

  • I thought that the interviewer was really into Hugh in this segment. She probably uses flirting as part of her style, but she obviously didn't find it hard to flirt in this case.

  • I knew hugh laurie before his career in house... hes one of the best comedians in brittain u know !

  • @lucke001 Blackadder ;)

  • First time I've heard House's true voice. Always knew he was English, but never knew it was totally different then his stage voice.

  • Hugh's an awesome actor. For those who didnt know he was a British actor, search "blackadder goes forth" and have a look at him acting back then ;) You'll fall off your chair seeing him perform as "Lt George" lol.. quality peformer though =)

  • Erm for me I saw him on tv in the UK before I saw him in house so for me it was just the suprise that he could do a very good american accent.

  • WTF he's british !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He is really good with an american accent, WOW I CANT LOOK AT HIM THE SAME WAY ANYMORE

    lol his voice is awesome

this is truly an example of a good actor

  • doh! actors always used to be able to "act" other accents. Hollywood just needed actors to recite lines...

  • I knew he was a brit I feel all alone =(

  • Wow!He's English!Never knew....

  • amazing hu? he's a pro

  • Holy Shit Hugh Laurie is a brit? What man that just made him a more pwnage actor. I always thought he was american lol.

  • DANG! He does have a realLy good American Accent.

especialLy with his heavy british accent.

  • Who is she? What a lovely woman. I need to stalk her!

  • she is giuliana rancic from e! she is in e news i think

  • I think I know why some people assume that Hugh Laury is of ethnic Spanish descent. There have been Spanish and Portuguese immirgrants entering Britain from Iberia over the past few centuries, and they and their descendants became known as Spanish and Portuguese Britons. Therefore, it is potential that Hugh Laury could possess a little ethnic Iberian Spanish or Portuguese descent, and he would not be aware of that physical detail at all, since that ethnicity could have become so diluted.

  • house rocks go hugh

  • he is so brit!!

  • Omg i love his accent

  • It's just slightly posh

  • omg i love him!!

  • He's the man... lol!

  • Rachel Hurd-Wood is his Niece :)

  • I don't believe this! He is that Blackadder guy! The american accent really fooled me!

  • I wonder how many languages does he speak.. :D American English, French, Spanish...he's like House! :D Love him..

  • I Like this dude too ^^

  • he's the man

  • its so weird, becuz u cant hear his english accent in house at all!

  • holy crap he has a british a ccent

  • wow

    smart

  • hehehehe. ILU

The problem is- I swear his "British voice" (not just the accent) sounds exactly like some famous actor's that I can't place. Help, anyone?

  • yea it sounds familiar 2 me 2....

    ahhhh!

this is gonnna bother me untill i think of it

    ;D

  • Thinking of Clive Owen - from Shoot em up, children of men, king arthur etc?

  • And Closer, don't forget Closer!

No, that's not it. I thoufht it was Pierce Brosnan for a minute (the tembre). This is going to torture me forever ;))

  • Its Shean Conery or the other 007.

OR its SIMON from American Idol.

  • that woman's behavior was horrible...

  • haha i wish he used his accent in house more

  • hahahaha

    his accent is interesting!

    :D

  • hes so funny. hahah

  • ohhh mah gawd i just love himmmmmm

  • 8D OMG. HIS ENGLISH ACCENT. HAWT.

I had no idea he was English. And that he used an American accent.

Well, anyway, he's hawt. Simply amazing.

He sounds like a completely different person.

    - Ashe <3

  • Here's something neat: Hugh Laurie played Jasper in the remake of Disney's 101 Dalmations (the live action version).

  • HOLY WOW. I didn't even NOTICE that! Then again, I hadn't even seen Stuart Little until like.... 5 years after seeing 101 Dalmations.

    xD

    - Ashe <3

  • Hes Hawt!

  • hes so cute!

  • im pretty young and i dont normally think older guys are hot but....omg house is so sexy!!! I love his accent!! It just makes him so much sexier!!!

  • I know! I love him too!!!

  • omg i love his accent

  • WOAH

  • he has an amearican accent

  • He has a really hard time saying Cycloydosis

  • oh my god yes he is british and i would screw him so hard. oh he is so hot and his accent is hot...oh hugh laurie do me!

  • damn, he sounds so much like an american in house, now, i cant even believe it is the same guy.

  • daaaaaaamn his british accent is hella strong. I thought he lost it, hella good actor if he can make an american accent that good.

  • dude he is British how can you not know that , hugh laurie is about as British as they come

  • kewl british accent!

  • fyi he is british. he isnt faking he is simply talking normal.

  • Yeah, He REALLY is British. He had to use an AMERICAN accent for the House series.

Apparently it's real hard for him to say words such as "Coronary Artery" with an American accent

  • omg, I didn't know he was british. This makes him even more sexy to me!!!

  • Love Hugh, and the hot-ass lady trying to get him to take her back to his room.

  • he's so good with the american accent that i thought he will keep using it even outside the tv, but i guess your native accent is really hard to leave. That just proves how an amazing actor he is!

  • Why would he keep using it outside of T.V?

  • i just though that after talking like an american the entire day, living in america, having american friends, the british accent might dissapear and he will get use to speak like an american outside TV.

  • LOL me too. after watching so much house, it's freaking hard to believe.

  • Dude, it's Stephen Fry there at 2:18! Caught me by surprise.

  • hey, ur right, i wouldn't have noticed that!

    thnx 4 pointing that out-lol

  • Comment removed

  • Love Hugh, hate the interviewer

  • sigh. haha.

  • for an older dude he is really cute!!!♥♥♥

  • DANGG.

he is SO hot for an old guy :)

  • lol. love that guy!

  • OMG HOW DES HE HOLD HIS ACCENT BACK?! xD

    That's awesome!!! I <3 Hugh Laurie!!! : D he rocks

  • i didnt know he taled liked that

  • Wow,he sure does an English voice awesomely!

    Love his acting.

    He's hysterical!

    :D

  • The British accent is his real voice; he's so good at doing an American accent for his roles that most people don't know he's English!! xD

  • he is english...

    did u not know that?

  • Holy shit! I knew he was British but never have I actually heard his voice. He's so good at being American. It's weird!

  • same here

  • I just think he's absolutely darling.

Magnificent accent change, not to mention.

  • I keep especting a insult like he does on house

  • WOW he does have a heavy acent

  • Heavy, really?

  • WHOOAAAH~ hes english! he has a great american 'accent'! hugh laurie is the best actor ever. House is HILARIOUS!

  • OMG he's sitting next to Stephen! I didn't know he was there!

  • He sounds so much more different on House!

    Love this guy! ^_^

  • Haha, she called him "Hoo"

  • #1 actor

  • He is the shit.. I love House, and am so addicted to this show.. YOU ROCK HUGH..

  • He's great in House but he was also really good in blackadder too.....good old blackadder =]

  • i didnt know he had an accent...hes good at dropping it.

  • I DIDNT KNOW HE WAS BRITTISH!!!! its kool,though...i ♥ House!!! hes good at accents just like Johnny Depp...hes hot 2!!!

  • lol, loads of people didnt realise he was english, his accent is flawless :D We really dont get enough credit for being the birth country of hugh laurie ;D

  • the deal is your countries not getting enough credit for keeping its legs closed. obviously he's a star who has went unoticed in your country and has been taken for granted, which is why if you take your eyes off of talent, you miss growth and risk claiming that you deserve anything from them. He wouldn't want anything from you for giving birth to him, other than a teet to suck on, so why demand attemtion your not giving him?

  • why demand his cooperation, his attention, and ask for credit you guys have never given him, otherwise why bother because he all of sudden stood out and you think your justified in having a fellow man country pay his dues!

  • He definitely didn't go un-noticed in this country; Blackadder & A Bit of Fry and Laurie were both very popular shows. You're clearly 'unfamiliar with the concept of sarcasm'. Why did you take that comment so seriously? She was just saying that so many people think that he's from America because of his perfect accent. She wasn't asking for attention from him, dumb arse.

  • He's not talking about "we" as in HE wants the attention, he's saying "we" as in us...Americans.

  • and I remember the Queen gave him an OBE a few years back

  • its so strange to hear him with his british accent, because he has a flawless american accent. I just recently found out that he was british, i always thought he was american...

  • when he shouts, you can kinda hear his accent

  • I highly recommend a TV show called "Jeeves and Wooster." You'll have a hard time believing it's the same guy.

  • American veiwers may find this interesting:

I saw an interview with Hugh Laurie's long-time friend Stephen Fry recently and he mentioned that he went over to see Hugh whilst he was shooting House and he kept the American accent up the whole time. Bizarre, but probably necessary.

  • me too! Its weird to hear him, he has a really good american accent...

    <3

  • I had heard he was British. I had seen another interview where his accent wasn't that strong, so maybe he's losing some of it playing House. I just started watching House. At first, I thought his American accent was too stiff, but now I honestly love the show. He's got beautiful eyes.

  • He's such a great actor(:

House is the best show ever to be made.

    I love himm.

    ha

  • very good at accents, like christian bale.

  • whoa...he is so not House here! I still can't believe he's British.

He's really got a good American accent.

  • he's so good looking.

    err<3

  • shes not a very good interviewer

  • his PERFECT!

  • omg his american accent is amazing on house!!!!

  • hehe "stroke the parties" LOVE IT! HEHEHE! Hugh is so cute. :) LOVE HIM!

  • im sry, its gonna sound certainly stupid, but wht does stroke the parties mean?! i can't figure it out (im not english -_-) thks

  • "Are you gonna hit some of the parties tonight?"

"Uh, I'm not gonna hit them. I might sort of stroke them in passing..."

    Hahahahahaahahahahaha!

  • SOOOO HOT!!! I LOVE HIM

  • silly girl...she didn't get it that he was kidding about the spanish thing. hhahah sad...

  • i sooo agree with sexychula19

  • Oh man, his accent has gone all weird since blackadder lol. He's still got the British one obviously but there is a hint of American in some places from doing it so often I suspect. He's still awesome.

  • I've also notice that, I found it quite sad though. I like it more like it was before...

  • Now I watch "House", his real voice doesn't match his face since he does such a good American accent.

  • How does he do the American accent so good?

  • The first step is to lose all grasp of grammar.

  • he is gorgeous god hottest older man ever lol im only 17 and i think he's hot lol i couldnt date him but i geuss it doesnt hurt to look=)=)=)

  • in Oxford *

  • He was born in 1959 on Oxford.

  • the american accent is coroding his good english one

  • Is this the guy from "About a Boy" and I pretty sure hes from Stuart Litlle the movie Lol.

  • Your thinking of Hugh Grant in About A Bot, but you're right Laurie was in the Stuart Little films.

  • lol yeah thanks, i googled it earlier :)

  • haha! "It's all in the wrist"

  • lol love the informed person below - obviously its not possible to be british and English at once, that would just be ridiculous, you have to love Americ dont you, but strangeley i have never met anyone who is Texan and american or Californian and American - that would obviously be impossible right, right!!?? lol

  • he's english and british u foolio

  • hugh laurie should win more awards

  • he is NOT english, he is BRITISH

    big different XD

  • Technically he's both English & British.

    Born in England, therefore English.

Born someonewhere in the Briish Empire, he's British.

  • So, all English people are British ? And not all British are English...? :P

  • Yeah.

  • How come u don't know that?? British are people from United Kingdom or Great Britain while english people are from England, but they are considered british as well because england is part of the United Kingdom such as scotland, wales and northern ireland..they are all british! get it??

  • Yeah, I "get" it. Actually I got it before you explained it in details.

    I was being sarcastic...

  • Haha no you werent, you didnt know.

  • Of course I did. :)

    I'm not THAT stupid. Heh.

    Honestly, I did know. :D

  • Britain is the whole island including Scotland and Wales, so regardless of whether you are born England, Scotland or Wales you are British. Just like someone born in Florida is just as American as someone born in california.

  • I was being sarcastic. Maybe you couldn't tell, but now you know. :)

  • I HAD NO IDEA HE HAD AN ENGLISH ACCENT!

  • The producers of House requested an American and they had never heard of this guy. They liked him alot and when they found out that his American accent was so good that it had them fooled, they signed him on.

  • He is English!! He was famous for playing upper class twits on British TV long before House...

  • The put-on American accent is starting to bleed into his English one.
