Before iTunes, I found a program that would rip the music from EA games (NFS, Fifa, Madden, etc) and convert it to MP3. Back then, after the conversion, you had to "uncook" the mp3 to get it to play correctly. Ah, the good ol' days...

It starts at $2.5k but thats with the 2.8 GHz quad core; the base 2.66GHz 12 core is $5k.

I went nuts on the build it page and it is $12.8k without pre-installing anything, and not factoring in a student discount, but hey, you get a free $100 printer :P

I'd say if you were to build your own and search online for the pieces and such you can build a really good performing machine, I have a friend (john) thats having a friend build a computer for him, it's just that john has to pay for parts going into it. If you're in the s.e. mi area i know some people around here that have the know how when it comes to building it

IMO, unless you want to have like 50 intensive things like games open at once, I don't think I would ever need that much. I have 8 GB of RAM and i can run lots of things at once with no problem. I'm guessing then that those big capacity RAM modules would be marketed towards server users.

@petey815 Yeah the numbers i was pulling was from the desktop model and not the server one (which also tops at 64GB). My guess the only reason you'd be using that much in an application where you're making videos like Pantural's video where he's showcasing the cars he's made in some 3D type program. For what he had, it took him 5 days to animate it and 110 days to render it. My guess is that the processing power of that would be able to cut down on that time.
