I own this 78, with Sunny Side Up on the B-Side. It's a Columbia recording. Can anyone tell me where I can find an mp.3 of this song? For as much as I love this disc, all I own to play it is a Victrola. (Which mind you really belts out the bass in this song!)
Excellent~. I once owned this record and FOOLISHLY sold it in the early days of Ebay. I remember it sold for about 50 bucks or so, though. I also remember the other side of the record is SUNNY SIDE UP! Thank you for making this available.
Superb Viva Tonal. Such great fidelity for a 1929 recording. Always a favorite tune of mine. Someone should post the Ampico piano roll of this tune! John Gourley
When will TCM show THE TRESPASSER?The BFI & The Academy showcased the fim recently.A lot of us fans can not afford to travel to Califonia, which has fabulous film festivals. The movie is not lost.
we had faces then! the chesire cat in alice in wonderland. love this record great tempo and paul small does a big singing talent. paul smal was big great singer. we had voices then what about the rest of the body. read the website of ===the culver studios===where it mentions that gloria's ghost and otherghost are perceived at the former pathe/rko pathe studio. ROGHARM
@78timothy they wanted her car for a picture not her face. norma demonic desmond. love this arrangement. i want more records like this. i will ask max if "max is holden any more great records which i did not hear" get the pun holden holding. i am now ready for my close-up we had faces. i have ears and enjoy these great arrangements and great singers. ROGHARM
@78timothy Max is Holden Norma's face sitting in the car. the car drove a de mile to paramount from her chateau. she is ready for her closeup. norma cannot face the facts that it is her car they want so she kills holden holding her. (JOKE) ROGHARM but i heard her sing the song on youtube and she sounds like an opera singer. that is no joke.
I think the vocalist was Paul Small--and I know from expert testimony that Gloria was about 5 feet tall (or so). Just my 2 cents worth. Thanks for the great record.
It seems she was around 1.5 metre tall, which indeed is small isn't it. In "Boulevard" she doesn't look that way, but probably the camera angle made her look taller.
Now I'm somewhat baffled. I don't find anything suicidal in either lyrics or music...but have enjoyed the jokes about the somewhat risque number 69, at least here in the USA. :)
I wouldn't know who the singer was but I did go to two previous Ellis uploads of yours and I do think it's his voice, mostly because of his enunciation. His R's are very distinct. Now that I listened to this song again and again I'm in love with it...
I followed your lead G, and it's Disco79, not 69 (!) :) :) He has four nice versions, but I must say this one here is the most appealing: irresistibly dynamic and the vocal is wonderful.
Good stuff. I only remember Gloria Swanson when her later years. She was glamorous but somewhat shriveled. (I know the feeling.) Your the publicity photo shows us what a true beauty she was. As always. Thanks for posting this; and all the others. Ed
I love this sensuous song with its dramatic vocal and your lovely video homage to Gloria.
You are right, sadly, I only knew her as Norma. She certainly was beautiful and I can understand the amorous Kennedy liaison. Thank you so much, this was excellent!

Vocalist is Smith Ballew. This is great record as well. Gloria Swanson waxed a vocal of this for Victor (RKO/RCA had a connection)
I have a copy of it. She could sing as well as dialog (she also had a face to quote Sunset Blvd. Hehe

69 sounds better than 79 :)

Smooth and cool as a vodka gimlet with a slender
wing of lemon atop the frosted glass. Yes, I'm still jetlagged.

Swanson made a recording of this as well. Her singing was pretty good.

Compared with today's singers, Gloria Swanson's voice was GREAT!!
