  • Wouldn't make for a good movie... lacks panic

  • i'll be the plane in the river .....any questions ???

  • "Unable." That's scary

  • 1:57 - We're gonna be in the Hudson.

    LOL! It's like he's saying:

Yeah, so... we're landing right here, right now. If you would like to look for us later, umm.. yeah, that's where we're gonna be. Just sayin'...

  • Which one is it then, 1529 or 1549? They keep using both numbers. At first I thought it was flight number, then some kind of a plane identification. But now I am just confused.

  • @grisznik They're just mixing up the numbers by accident. It doesn't really matter at that point. They all knew who they were talking to.

  • Comment removed

  • Helluva good job!

  • the shit starts to get real at 0:40 when the pilot says "We may end up in the Hudson."

  • 0:20 looks like a puppy swimming

  • Button pushers... right

  • I was on this flight in 16B. It was a nightmare. The last 30 seconds felt like an hour. Strange how time slows. There was never really a panic though. We had all just sort of accepted what was going to happen if that makes sense?

  • 91 are birds

  • @shaun91255

For the first time ever, a "dislikers are this and that" comment did make me laugh, thanks :D

  • Both the Traffic Controller and Captain are ballsy mofos.

  • Cappy is calm as fuck. Nice, man. Old Spice sponsorship coming your way.

  • "Yeah we'll be in the Hudson if you need us"

  • The ATC man's voice changes just after 0:40 when he realizes the man he is talking to will soon be dead

  • Respect!

  • American air traffic control don't sound very professional.

  • @CymroGoch Actually the US has the best, most extensive, and safest ATC system in the world. If you listen to the many interviews that Sully has given he tells you personally that the controller does everything right. Gave him all options.

  • if i was that pilot. id be like " listen fuck head! im not landing on a runway. do you understand english fuck boy? pick my ass up in the river and bring me some fucking towels u dumb cunt fuck" like that :)

  • @mattguitarbaseball

I understand, but, uhm, I'd probably not fly with you. I prefer the calm and focused captain "i am a rock" hudson.

  • Most successful ditching in aviation history. Sully, would you please run for president?

  • why don't they invent something to protect the engines from birds?

    sweet landing, though.

  • @TheEspiritin Yes, why don't they put some kind of a mesh on the engines, like the one we use on our windows to keep away insects & mosquitoes but let in fresh air.

Atleast he landed the plane straight. People can queue up towards the exit doors with their luggages intact.

  • Why can't this traffic controller understand he's gone into the Hudson he should have been on the radio contacting help. The Captain told him twice and even the NJ Controller got the picture right away.

  • @monctonvintageads So quick to criticise. He did everything right and by the book. ATC is there to advise. He gave him every option available...His job. Arm chair pilots and ATC...Geeze

  • that's confidence right there! you go, pilot!

  • Get the REAL story of the PATCO Strike of 1981. Read my book, "Forgotten Heroes of the Sky PART 1. Also this Controllers

experience on 911. Read how to buy my book on the link below.

While on You Tube search for AyXjdxtZPS0 It is about 911 and ATC. Very Informative..

    YouTube doesn't let you list an actual LINK on these Comments so you have to put together what I wrote below;

In the address line type 3 w's then dot (.) air-traffic-controller and then dot (.) org

  • BALLS OF KRYPTONITE?

  • Absolute balls of steel *Duke Nukem voice*

  • Fuck that's how you make a decision .. big balls.

  • what's with the atc, he said he was going down into hudson and he still gives him options for runway even after radar contact is lost

  • @DJDhananjayK The ATC is just flattened, wouldn't you be if that A320 with 155 souls, would be going down without any thrust at all while under your command?

  • I love how he was all casual about it. Just like, "Yeah, we're gonna be in the Hudson if you need us"

  • Woulda been dope if he said

"This is Cactus one four two nine, Wooh yea! I fucking did it! Landed on the Hudson bitches! Tell Bill he can go suck it. And I want a pay raise A.S.A.P assholes."

  • Ok....but how do we prevent this from happening again??? I mean, we have nuclear bombs that can cross the atlantic, but then a pack of birds can bring down a million plus dollar machine??!

  • they sound like wise guys!

  • This dude Captain Sully is cooler than a fucking fan!! I would have been hysterical.....I would have been like TELL MY MAMA AND MY MAN THAT I LOVE EM..WE GOING DOWNNNN!!. He was calm, cool and collected...that's major SWAGGER!! Sully could have gotten major pussy after this! He the motherfucking man!! lol

  • I mean to every story about aviation, a person claiming he is a pilot has his 5 cents to say. I just do not believe that most people claiming to be a pilot on youtube are one and are just trying to get an audience or attention.

  • Funny how there are 50000 planes in the world but 10000000000000 pilots and 99999999999999 of them are on youtube. Get a live.

  • @Luckydog66100 What do you mean?

  • How cool can a guy be? He is going in the drink, and very likely will loose his life but calm as if he is watching a tv show. Admirable, absolutely admirable. He was going to run for Senate was it? I wonder if he did make it.

  • we're going in the hudson - calm as you like! what a man

  • do any pilots know if a runway was really an option with all the fuel weight and no time to empty?

  • @MG53895

(This type of aircraft, the a320 can not dump fuel, in fact, most planes can't)) The plane's fuel tank was not full so the plane's weight was far below the max allowed landing weigth. If the weight was above this limit , a runway still would have been best since the landing weight limit is only for structural safety of the wheels/brakes.So a normal landing is pretty much guaranteed. However, the wheels and/or brakes might need to be replaced afterwards due to the heavy impact.

  • Hats off to everyone in the recording. Talking about nerve of steel!!!

  • The amazing thing is that they are talking with no drama or stress. Their tone in their voice is the same of what us mere mortals would use to call about the the order for coffee. If I was on that flight, I'd get in line to buy the pilots a drink.

  • In my opinion that was a very unprofessional question ''What do you need to land''

Well... I need wheels... wings... elevators.. flaps.. maybe a runway, oh, and engines!

  • @365fg it was kind of an urgent situation... forgive him for being "unprofessional".

In my opinion i am surprised they were not freaking out a little

  • I'd be panicking if he said about landing in the river- i would've acted a bit more quicker than he, when the pilot didn't reply =S

  • So heroic. Thanks to captain for saving all those lives!

    poor birds

  • @darkcashyz more stupid birds.

  • jesus - how could anybody 'dislike' this video?

some people on youtube just aren't human!

  • @methilblue I think they didnt understand

  • @methilblue those 91 one ppl werent ppl indeed they were the birds related 2 the birds that got hit

  • @methilblue

Or was fishing during the landing, or, better saying, "watering".

  • The pilot was a hero, but come on, the man is crazy... Tower: "Which one way would you like at teterboro?" The pilot: "We're gonna be at Hudson". Tower: "I'm sorry, say again Cactus" LOL

The man is a real pro!!!

  • @methilblue Envious people keep dislikin' anything nice and successful!

  • Surprisingly enough, he never said "mayday mayday mayday"...

  • @piernic75 he did, it was at the beggining of the emergency message, but he was stepped on by the ATCO. Well maybe not really stepped on, but the ATCO was still transmitting.

  • @piernic75 Yes he did, but it was while the ATcontroller was talking and the radiosystem doesn´t allow pilot and atc to talk simultaneously. It´s according to his book Highest Duty.

  • @piernic75 i've listened to this many times ......strange that he did not say that....also curious what the origin of the "mayday" term is////anybody know?

  • Skilled pilot

  • salute to the Captain. he has the nerves guts and vision. incredible. no match for his heroic acts. HE IS HERO

  • I like how the pilot said, "We're gonna be in the Hudson." Then about one minute later, the air traffic controller is still giving him options on where else he can land.

  • @LONGBALL3005 Sometimes a plane cannot reply but can still hear ATC. It's prudent to continue giving information until there is confirmation of a downed plane.

  • "I'm sorry say again, cactus?"

  • great pilot but text book air traffic controller stuff.....

  • brave pilot kudos

  • He was a good pilot but he was also lucky. They never pressed the ditch button either, which is one of the reasons it started sinking.

  • i guess the pilot's deep voice is due to those massive balls of granite he has, pulling down on his vocal chords...

  • @Asalieri Good one, and granite balls sully had that day!

  • @Asalieri Balls of Granite is a good name for a rock band

  • is this the pilot responding to ATC? i would guess this is the first officer and the captain landing

  • i dont belivit it

  • There must be Heavy people inside that plane how come the cocpit didnt sank ?

  • the pilot is really a hero...........any pilot could have tried to turn around and land at an airport which may have ended in a fatal crash but he chose hudson less damage.........good on him

  • It's because it's an Airbus, a Boeing would have broken into pieces.

  • @suntanners Besides the stronger fuselage of the Airbus (they hit the water at 3 times the required amount of descend force) and the Ditch Swicht the a/c didn't sink like others have in the past.

  • omgosh the pilot is dry. and what a hero for landing on the hudson.

  • The ATC guy didn't even want to think about Hudson:D:D

  • I would have just jumped out of the plane with a parachute and see what happens to the others

  • i never heard mayday mayday mayday. he never declared an emergency?

  • @neper1982 There was a "Mayday" call, but another aircraft was transmitting, and the "Mayday" call was not heard.

  • WoW 1549 true hero, I would be like "We're not going to make it, AAAAAAAAAAAH"

  • wow you do not know how impossible that is. You have to land at EXACTLY 11 degrees and 150 mph or else the plane tears apart. do not try this at home

  • 1549 he sounds so clam lol

  • omg *chills*

  • fucking terrorist birds

  • 3 times captain said to tower that he has to land in hudson and that idiot of tower continued to suggest free runway.....call the emergency idiot!

  • @biker1078rr He was just continuing to give all the options

  • A big pilot!!!

  • I will never forget this day. My flight had just arrived at JFK (NOT LaGuardia), and I was in New York visiting a friend on her birthday. She picked me up from the airport in her car, and we were listening to reports on the radio about a plane in the Hudson River. I, of course, was shocked and scared, seeing as how my plane arrived at about the same time the ditching occurred. Few details were coming in on the type of plane, and what exactly happened. We checked CNN.com, and were amazed.

  • Incredibly impressed not only with the pilot but with the speed, calm, and coordination of the air traffic controllers at the different airports.

  • omg that pilot is best pilot i have ever heard of he saved lots of lives and he was so calm

  • Click the "CC" and turn Audio Beta captions on (the top one) Look at what the computer thinks he says.

  • he sounds like batman.... "Unable...." in a completely expressionless voice

  • @TheLameJosh lol I felt like he was going to say "I'm the goddamn batman"

  • just saw a show on history channel...I'm from Wisconsin we don't get action like that up here. My hat goes off to pilot and crew and survivors...you cheated death that day!!

  • Great pilot he saved a lot of lives

  • The training kicks in and a man accesses 100% of his analytical mind to make a computation on the equation of the optimum solution. This is where vision is most acute as well as all other senses. In this situation auto pilot and all the computers in the world are inferior to man.

  • Nice job of the airport taking care of the birds, torough US job again.

  • The people who dislike a video like this..where the end result was everybody surviving..Absolutely disgust me, to the pit of my stomach. I don't care what their reasons are.

  • Captain Sullenberger is 100% AGAINST the TSA Rapiscanners AND the strip-searches. Look it up.

  • ''I'm sorry say again cactus.''

  • He just don't get the picture :D

  • That is one cool MF'r. I'd be more than happy to fly on any plane with him at the controls. True professional!!!

  • Thumbs up if you applaud the courage and professionalism of the pilot to land this thing and save lives

  • If you guys are gonna write a coment please be serious. Some jokes are not funny. I'm a pilot and I've experienced this before and its not funny. It's a serious matter to air safety and need to be treated with respect. If your gonna comment please be do it in a way that can be usefull.

  • If you guys are gonna write a coment please be serious. Some jokes are not funny. I'm a pilot and I've experienced this before and its not funny. It's a serious matter to air safety and need to be treated with respect.

  • Sully is as cool as a cucumber. He's about to go down in the Hudson, and listen to how calm he is. A true pro.

  • You wanna go where??????

  • i love the part when the dipatcher is like "you want runnway 1?" and captain sully is like "nope were going into the hudson" SULLY=PRO

  • I just saw Capt. Sully speak a few days ago at a conference and the first thing he did was say that the entire flight crew and air traffic control team was to thank for saving all 155 people on that flight...

  • wow no one rly remembers this or sully most people forgot anyways :(

  • Cactus 1549 to Laguardia tower........"go ahead cactus 1549" uh? yeah! uh? We are also needing to report a fish strike!!! Laguardia tower: "???????"

  • You know, I can't help but notice that there are no Female or Minority voices on these recordings. I think we have a terrible problem here.

Who's Hudson is it really anyway, ours or the native Americans? Why were there no disabled minority veterans in the cockpit?

    These questions need answers.

    -- chill ;-)

  • hope that engineers will put the airplanes with an airbag underneath of it, so it wont sink..

  • How big of a loser do u have to be to dislike this video....that just shows ZERO respect!

  • he was quoted as saying that the moments before the crash were "the worst sickening, pit-of-your-stomach, falling-through-the-floor feeling" that he had ever experienced....anyway he is the best!

  • He said from the very beginning he may end up in the hudson, i think he just wanted to land in the hudson from the beginning. he did say it looked beautiful on take off.

  • Sully Sullinberger should be the name of the Main , New York airport , it is the name of a worker a pilot a true American hero , Not a polititian !

  • ah..say that again....?! :-)))))

  • what the fuck are they saying it sounds interesting

  • @stealthret What do you mean? The air traffic controller?

  • 83 birds disliked this video

  • @ShockUSMCTroop LMAO..too funny!!!

  • @ShockUSMCTroop normaly i dont find dislike joke funny but that make lol

  • @ShockUSMCTroop hahaha

  • @ShockUSMCTroop well, now it's 87 birds

  • @ShockUSMCTroop the birds are special agents to take down planes and destory human life!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ShockUSMCTroop Up to 87 idiots. I'll provide air cover if you want to kick in a few doors, could be a long night.

  • @ShockUSMCTroop You mean 89 ^^

  • In response to someone saying idiot at 1:19. I'm pretty positive it was a stepped on transmission. Just sounded like idiot.

  • Professional all the way. Question for the pilots on here... do you think is was better that he had to land in the Hudson? Without engines, would he have had breaking power enough to land on wheels?

  • @quantumbits It's not a question of braking power, it's a matter of gliding range - the bird strike happened low enough (soon after takeoff) that putting it in the river was the only option (if you listen to the audio he says that he can't make any of the nearby airports).

  • @SoCalGuy93065 Yep, I got all that. I Just think it is fortunate that he was over water.

  • Wow I remember this! This was a miracle of all miracles. Especially around the biggest city in the world.....do you know how this could have become a mega disaster crashing into buildings. God really had his hand in this and the captain will live on as a legend indeed.

  • we're gonna be in the hudson. euhm i'm sorry say again cactus?

  • This is the captain speaking.......Uh.......We are gonna land in the hudson, the fat guy in isle 11b can be used as a flotation device.

  • he's not just a hero he's a FUCKING LEGEND

  • is that an ac130

  • @RAJLFC4EVA Unsuccessful is troll is unsuccessful.

  • THE PILOT IS SO CALM!..... DESPITE BEING SO CLOSE TO DEATH....HE SAVED LIVES! MY HERO!..... A TRUE AMERICAN HERO!

  • It was a MIRACLE.....that everyone survived! AWESOME PILOTS!

  • Incredible how calm pilot was..i wouldve been like "This is cactus 1529...i need to change my pants"

  • @ShockUSMCTroop Best comment I have read today

  • @ShockUSMCTroop " This is cactus 1549, stop saying 29 you're gonna make us land in the hudson "

  • @dealerovski82 Yeah the title says 1549, but if u listen to the transcript it clearly says 29...so stop saying 49, youre gonna make us land in the hudson

  • @ShockUSMCTroop yes he was saying it wrong all the time. It should have irritated the pilot that he diden't know what plane he was talking to.

  • @ShockUSMCTroop hell i was nervous just listening to this, i have the utmost respect for the pilot

  • @ShockUSMCTroop Im in flight school and he did exactly everything by the book the way I was taught to handle things (the pilot)

  • @KiDFRANKKK When were you taught to ditch a passenger jet in a river may I ask?

  • @bravobravo74 When was I taught? hmmmm In flight school? I still have a short clip of me flying from when I was 16 on my channel. When you fly a plane you should be constantly watching for open spaces incase of an engine-out. Open fields, bodies of water, other airports,.. even once read a story about how one guy managed to land his cessna on a warehouse roof. And if it was so taboo for a plane to land on water, then why do they put rafts and life life jackets in planes anyways? not impressive

  • @KiDFRANKKK An instructor might tell you what to do in that situation but that doesn't constitute practical training. Secondly, in light aircraft (which I'm guessing is the limit of your experience) the only time any sane pilot would ditch would be when it's the only option; when beyond the gliding range of land. Otherwise look for fields, roads and airports but don't class water as a credible landing site. Airliners can't land in fields or on roads so that's different altogether.

  • hats off

  • the pilot is so damn calm!!!

  • so why is 1549's call sign change like every transmission?

  • @imbarisaxy The tower is talking to multiple flights on that channel. Normal and typical.

  • the guy who is flying the plain must have nervs of steel. Like..."Oh well.. Looks like there's no time left, let's just land in Hudson. Like any other Monday morning." hahaha

  • Cool captain at 1:55

  • Amazing how he stayed so calm

  • God, this takes my breath away.

  • excallant professionals hats off to the piliots

  • The captain of this plane is a hero. Straight up.

  • Not being mean or saying he's stupid, but how does the New York Tracon guy neo realize that the plane is in the Hudson, about a minute after he's been in the hudson.

  • Those flight controllers do amazing jobs.

  • Why did he call himself cactus 1539 and then 1529 vice 1549?

  • @nitestryker7 he was busy

  • NOWCHECK THIS OUT : MAKE A YOUTUBE SEARCH ONT HIS ::::::::::: Miracle on the Hudson - The Divine Mercy Story

  • ok so at 1:57 u can hear the beeping soun
