it sounds too loud because high frequencies are easier to be picked up by the microphone of the camera or video recorder. notice low frequencies like bass lines and kicks are not as loud. i think that is the reason. i am pretty sure that keith carlock knows the eq for live performances.
is it just me or does it sound like he's (carlock) is ghosting alot of notes that purdie didnt do, which makes this a very unique version of this song
No it's not just you :-) The hi-hat and snare are definitely different than what Purdie played. Dennis Chambers has Zildjian Day 2008 videos on YouTube, which are very similar to what Keith is doing here. Keith's left-hand ghosting (on the snare), is other-worldly to watch "up close". I told him that he could do a 60-minute DVD of just that, and drummers would need to by a new DVD player every month :-)
the only other guy that id want to hear play the groove would be jeff porcaro... and well carlock is the best groover around these days. carlocks the best because he can emulate a groove and make it feel as good as the original but has so much of his own thing goin on he just melts the groove. tip my hat to the past groove giants giving birth to the new groove giants. cheers.
Let's not beat around the bush here, people... Carlock is destroying the world with this groove. He sounds characteristically ferocious and that snare is putting the fire under it all. Numero uno, kiddies.
Lol you can always tell a musician's recorded a gig when you never see the lead vocalist!! I saw this band (well the SD part) last year, they were awesome. I love watching Freddie; he's so professional
Was this like an aftershow party or something? Jealous much!
I saw them this year in Berlin and it was just the truth from start to finish. Best gig ever, and currently they probably possess my favourite Dan touring lineup.
yeah its a little over tightened but I think it was prob tuned for the tour in general, where a less tight snare might have sounded muddy.. just from personal exp
High definition master exists in the vault.

Wow-- Robo snare. There is zero chance of this happening in Atlantic city, or down at Rudy's after a Beacon Theater show...
