I started playing with 2E ADD right before 3E came out, and im still using 3.5, got big library. when i the minis came out, i got a bunch of it and the only thing i bought 4E related mainly for RP and tactical for my adventures. I guess the point im trying to make if there is one, is that once i read 4th rules it felt less, i mean a cleric is a cleric, mage a mage and so on. To end i still play 3.5 and i got the same feeling as you Paizo should just buy DnD off WOTC :p
Who cares if you just bought all the books? Just because 5th edition is out doesn't mean you have to play it.... I still play second edition, and can still get most of the books off ebay for not too bad of a price. So you should just take it as an opportunity to play 4th cheaper.
@SanchezOKelly dude, Im a avid player of D&D since the 80's, at the time it pissed me off. The whole reason we switched to 4th is cause we didnt want to be "left out" of all the cool new stuff so we bought all the books. To not feel left out again we'll have to buy all the 5th books now. This vid is from a long time ago, I play Pathfinder now, but I've forvigen WOTC. Everyone knows I was a HUGE booster and supporter of 4th and at the time I felt betrayed.
@YourDungeonMaster How is this vid from a "long time ago" when the 5th announcement is recent? SanchezOKelly has a valid point..quit trying to beat the neighbors and find your DM and player base bliss. I did AD&D for 6 years and 2nd for 10, skipped 3rd and did 3.5 for 2 years and found the heaven sent PathFinder..and I am done..I buy Paizo now until D&D is sold off. No hate I just am not a 16 year old who can blow 50 bucks on a so/so book anymore
@skuzzyknuckles I just watched your whole video and in retrospect...ignore my previous ramblings cause it seems you have learned the lesson that I have...sad but true
@SanchezOKelly Cheaper - if you can find the stuff, but also with fewer players, because it is inevitable that most current (and virtually all new) players will be playing the new version.
Which is WHY these new editions are put out. It has nothing to do with improving the game. That only requires tweaks. They do this to sell the books, adventures, and play aids yet again.
Hello, just subscribed. I to just abandoned 4th ed and picked up Pathfinder, the starter box and the core rules and ran my first game, everyone loved it mainly because my group is 3rd and 3.5 ed players of D&D. Also, my extensive 3.5 D&D library is dusted off and back in the game too since Pathfinder makes it easy to integrate D&D 3.5. I like 4th but all I really invested in is the core 3 books and some modules, tiles ect.. I will look at the next D&D edition but buying? who knows.
@AEPshawn Thanks for the sub. Yes my group was 3rd players as well, and it was nice to get out the old 3rd books for extra references, for example beholders that arent in Pathfinder
Well said DMJ! I'll buy 5th (even if it's just out of morbid curiosity), but I am tired of learning a "new" system every 4 years. In the end, I'll end up playing the system I like most, but will tell people "I play D&D", just as you said. It's the experience that matters, not the rulebook or I.P. behind it all.
4th Edition D&D is the first time in role-playing history that a version of Dungeons & Dragons was not the top selling rpg (this says something). 5th edition will be WOTC's answer to Pathfinder. 4th edition (whether you like it or not) just got a bunch of hate. Personally I believe if you want to play 4th edition, you might as well just play the D&D Board Games that came out. It's just too much hack in slash. Sure you can implement what they want, but I agree, WOTC did damage to D&D's legacy. I do think 5th edition will be spectacular though, because if it's not, WOCT can kiss their supporters goodbye, you know?
@YourDungeonMaster A few of my gamers at my local shop were talking about it. And, WotC has confirmed Monte Cook is the new E-i-C for D&D on their webpage. As for Perkins, he's in the credits for the new Pathfinder Miniatures, and has worked with them in the past.
I think it is good that you are able to take a step back, this way once their get "NEXT" sorted out, perhaps you, me and many others can rediscover a game loved and cherished by thousands of fans.
2:00 i hear ya, i never invested in 3rd or 4th but watched my friends dump a couple thousand into buying the entire systems with an entourage of figurines. after running through those at 2 years each...we're all back to playing 1st-2nd meld. I'm sitting back too, 1 more edition that might be a botch but i digress we joined the forums to add our 2 bits in case we do make a difference.
Hey bro I subbed because of this video. Glad to hear you made the switch to pathfinder. It's a really great game. Honestly I wouldn't hold your breath on your 4e books, or any previous edition books, being that compatible with 5e. How else would they sell new books? :) But you can always play 4e with your old books.
5e to get me to come back to Wizards, which I agree with you they have "tainted" D&D, it would basically have to be an improved pathfinder, which they definitely won't do...
I fully agree with you. 4E turned me off of WotC and Pathfinder became my fantasy game of choice. My group and I don't call it Pathfinder, like you, we just call it D&D.
Ah man, the whole time I'm watching your video I'm thinking..."I really want to see that nerd rage video" lol :). You really hyped it up good!
And yeah, I agree with you about Pathfinder. I really feel like it's D&D, and I still think of it as D&D. Unless 5E is a godsend, best case scenario in my mind would be if Hasbro sells the D&D brand to Paizo :).
@Creslin321 I have forgiven WOTC so i cant release the vid, but if Hasbro sold D&D to Paizo....that would turn the world of gaming upside down....wow..that would be wild
Oh, go ahead and put out the nerd-rage video! You can't tell us about a great rant on our favorite subject and then not let us in on it =) Anyway, looking forward to more vids (rant or not).
You've gamed a subscriber who likes all RPGs. Thanks for the video. Keep an open mind about any new games that come out, whether it is 5E, some new version of PF if they feel they need to update, or any other. Don't box yourself in.
@creativemountain Thanks. ya, this video was made "in the heat of the moment" after the news was just released. This channel used to be dedicated to 4th edition which i supported hardcore, I just felt betrayed at the time.
I'm also set back by this news but all we can do is keep gaming. WOTC is a business out to make money. I cant be mad that there making a 5e, hell madden drops a new game every year and people line up ever year to buy it. New books + new fans = $.
@sev00782 I agree, its just the fact I spent a G on books this year, and they said there would be no 5th edition for a long time. Everything you said to me I said to 3rd edition players all year.
@YourDungeonMaster Just 1k??? I spent in the last 10 years well over 20k on 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, PF, and other supplements under the OGL. :D I will continue to spend money on such products and will purchase 5th edition as it is released. My only issue is that you stated they said there will be no other editions after 4th. Where did that come from??? Did you honestly think the 4th edition of D&D was certainly going to be the be all, end all???
@Ancientgamer1970 First off, keep cool. Yes I spent 1000k (maybe more)just on 4th edition, but i own all the editions and many $1000's in minis. Chris Perkins said there will be no fifth edition,so when 4 years later it comes out,its very disturbing. FYI this channel was deadicated to 4th up until 2 weeks ago. 4th for me was the closest thing to perfection IMO. I would have rather they came out with 4.5 with everything fixed or simply a new core book.
@YourDungeonMaster LOL, typical response as I suspected I would get who went on a NERD RAGE rant when the word was passed on 5th edition. Keep cool??? What do you mean keep cool??? I was just responding to your rant. Socially inept gamers at its best. No big deal, I am going to UNSUBSCribe because I thought you were better than that. Long live 5th edition (it is not called that anyways, it is being referenced as D&D Next).
@Ancientgamer1970 Please unsub because youre a troll. Ive looked at your other comments to other channels and you are a douche. If you were standing in front of me i would bitch slap you. I meant keep cool on your response to other gamers on here. I dont need your sub, now beat it.
@YourDungeonMaster Ancientgamer1970 is not likely subbed. He created his account on the 14th of Jan, 2012. He's just trolling people. And considering the comments he left on my video .... he's likely from EnWorld.
@adamx20 Im sure he is, I just noticed last night this vid is in a thread there that is closed,so I cant even respond. Whatever, Im not worried about it. Ya, he was subbed, I seen it on his channel, and he says he was in the post above.
@nozzer2002 Do you know anything about business??? The D&D name brand has been knocked off its pedastal by Paizo for the last 3 quarters which I must remind you has NEVER happened since the name brand Dungeons & Dragons was created. Hasbor took that as if something is wrong. It is what it is. WOTC did not rip anyone off. So, lets not be so naive about this whole issue and just accept the fact what is going on. WOTC is a business, plain and simple and it will do what it takes.
Also. I think that 4th will be compatible with the new edition coming out so most of your books may still be useful. They haven't even decided to call it 5th as far as I'm aware. For all we know it might officially be called 4.5. They might even put out smaller booklets explaining what they've changed from 4th so that people who bought the 4E PH don't have to buy a new PH, etc.
Rather than giving up on it, go to the site and explain to WOTC what you want in the new edition.
Wizards are trying to create a better game, from the core. Pathfinder is built on an outdated core. Consequently you won't really get anything really new with Pathfinder. It's a pricy hobby, but really not much worse than your average Joe's World of warcraft subscription.
If you want to sit there with your Pathfinder books, then fine. But don't knock the game before it has come out. 4th is designed far better than Pathfinder in my mind, and I can't wait for 5th to come out.
@FundamentalPhysicist Pathfinder is built on the D20 core, which is the same as 4th. 4th has only with minor changes. You must not know this channel very well because if you did you would know me as one of the biggest 4th supporters there is. This entire channel was based on 4th as well as my facebook. This year alone I spent $1000 on 4th, so I have every right to be upset, and knock the decision to come out with a new edition after saying there would be no 5th edition.
@YourDungeonMaster What I meant with core was the structuring in designing.
Now, that's a lot of money. I spent under $100 buying books 2nd handed. New editions will always come out, it's only a matter of time. There's no such thing as a perfect game, optimization with regard to streamlining, etc. is all we can hope for.
I've spent a TON of money on 4E (just picked up The Book of Vile Darkness and Heroes of the Feywild over the holidays) and I enjoy the heck out of it, but knowing that WotC has decided to turn its back on it just kinda' pisses me off. I never liked 3.x (and obviously, I'm no fan of Pathfinder), so that's not an option for me. The good thing is that there are TONS of other fantasy RPG options out there and I'm happy to play those and I'll continue playing 4E for as long as there is interest.
I like your channel, do what you do, for whatever reasons you have been doing it... it works. (would still like to see the rage-vid - maybe after the books are being shipped-to-shelves, or at some point when it is no longer a potential issue?)
... (cont.) There's another way of looking at this as well.
[...] 30yrs of publications. 10s of 1000s of pgs of material to draw from [...] not counting any 3rd party stuff. Just TSR and WOTC [...] How can you possibly have a definitive version [...]? ~12s, if not ~200, authors, spread across 30yrs designing stuff with very little guidance for the most part; virtually no centralized concepts that were being maintained,
I don't have any specific brand or version loyalties. I play, read, and buy what looks good to me. True, 4th Ed. didn't do alot for me, but I had plenty of other games to try out. It had some good ideas to it, but it didn't inspire me enough to go out and invest in the game. One reason why I didn't try the game was WoCs lack of PDF support. Will they make PDFs of 5th Edition available? For some reason, I think not.
Well, they had to do something. I am curious as to what they will do... I hope accountancy and marketing departments don't outweigh research&development, art, creative teams. That seems to be happening all too often across the board for too many companies these days. As long as we love a game and love playing it, it's all good.
Hey Johnny! Im not leaving your channel. I played 1st & 2nd D&D, never played 3.5 and when 4th came out I was "meh" about it , then this last year I gave it a chance, I like it very much and now Im sitting here thinking to myself wow 5th is so soon so obviously Im a little "meh" about it but once the content releases and a few books are on the shelves I might give it a chance. Im somewhat hesitant about 5th cause of Wizard's reputation but I will still give it a chance in due time. Peace!
Hah Wizards.. I do have to thank the company for making 3E and getting my interest in PNP RPGS higher than it was for 2E... but it's still pretty mind boggling.
WOTC are plain shameless..i never bought into the 4th edition BS fron the start,i feel sorry for my fellow roleplayers who spent a ton of money on 4th edition, WOTC sucks big time ! thanks for the vid by the way keep up the good work !
dude it was a week ago i PM'ed you and you said 5th edition was coming soon...im getting on my knees and bowing saying "im not worthy" . that's why your the dungeon master!
I have no idea why everyone gets so upset when a new version of D&D is announced. Honestly when I first heard that 5th edition was announced I was excited. I've spent money on 4e too and I'm not upset at WoTC at all. No one in the video game industry or the board game industry gets upset when a new game is announced. Edition wars are a waste of time and contrary to the spirit of roleplaying. RPGs are about having fun with friends not arguing which version is best.
@Markleberry Sorry buddy. I said the same thing when 4e was released and I looked over at my massive 3e/3.5e, collection. SONOFABITCH!!! I feel your pain.
I never really noticed the edition wars in D&D. Kinda like how you explained how people in Pathfinder just play their game and have fun, that's what I do with D&D, whatever the edition may be. I just play my game and have fun, don't really care how the community of D&D is split on the editions.
@snuzzlebumble Glad you missed eddition wars though not sure how. The wars divided RPGers but improved RPG's. Competition is always good. It is the 2nd "time of sorrows" in the industry. For the 2nd time in RPG history D&D has lost the top spot for best selling RPG game in the past year or more. Due to RPGers feelings about 4e. WotC has self admittingly learned a huge lesson with 4e and leaving the OGL. For the 1st time D&D is being beat by it's own game with a different name.
(XD because it is a form of primate rage to grin XD)
I have been through it FOUR /!/and and three half/!/ TIMES ... what is one more?
personally, I already can't wait to see 6th edition!!
The only edition-rewrite that has upset me with disappointment (briefly) was Cyberpunk V3 - nothing done in the RPG industry in this way, will likely ever get me upset again.
I use a 4 and 3*(1/2)s hybrid of D&D, soon I will be using a 5 and 4*(1/2)s.
intresting, I am not much of a d20 fan, I prefer other systems such as worlds of darkness and savage worlds.
However, I am curious if they will end up updating their old settings they have published for dnd, ie ravenloft mystara, birthright, dragonlance, dark sun, and the countless other settings.
@herkles1 when they let a decent setting fade, that is what upsets me more...
if I get a copy of the new system, I will of course port what I know... to whatever I use... and whatever I own... whether I like the system or not is irrelevant to the conversion process, only understanding it matters.
When WotC hired Monte Cook it was clear a new eddition was due out soon. With him on board Id be willing to bet it will be compatable with PF/3.5. Your right I didn't care how good or bad 4e was as soon as I learned it wasn't compatable with all the 3e, 3.5e books WotC sold me I knew I wasn't going buy 4e. Im sure people who perfer 4e will stick with it. I would've loved to see the nerd rage vid! 5e is a tool box RPG was refered to as "40th anniversary eddition" to combine older edditons.
@blackbarnz comparability between editions will likely be possibility under a Monte Cook leadership... but that depends on how much control he can gather, if there is time, and if there is interest from those who understand 4e well enough within it's own framework.
I do hope it happens... or at least... I hope 4th edition is given more attention so that it becomes possible to do with more ease... atm 4e /is/ the weak-link in the chain... but there are elements I can appreciate.
@thespiritcoyote From what I've heard, WotC sought out Monte last year after his divorce and moved him to a unfurnished apartment in Seattle. From what he's conveyed to me they've taken a similiar approach as the Basic Role Playing game has with mechanics, allowing switches to be turned on and off as DM sees fit, But this was several month ago.
@blackbarnz [oops: compatibility >_< between editions]
toggle switches are nice... that was an esthetic in 3e and had been given a good go in 2e(Player's/DM's Options) notably GURPS laid much of the firm-ground in that philosophy also...
still hope there is some attention to the possibility of a new Rules Cyclopedia for each of the previous editions, as they did for D&D:Basic - and some cross-compatibility made available with system-sets...
man I miss the days when Mystara was dynamic (_ _)"
@thespiritcoyote I missed Mystara sadly! Still looking for a copy! Agreed the toggle switch philosophy was lead by Steve Jackson and G.U.R.P.S. There's several interesting articles today on various media sources as well as great insight on designers blogs on the coming eddition.
I think it's the right decision that you didn't upload your nerdragevid. I like your channel because of your GM vids and all that GM stuff and not because it's about 4th Edition, 5th Edition oder Pathfinder. Keep up the good work.
Glad to see you've embraced the One True Way :). I for one was livid myself when I found out, but I kinda could already sense this coming. Luckily Pathfinder does it for me for fantasy, and 40K for sci-fi. Pains me to see the game that starting roleplaying for me get morphed into a hideous abomination, but it's time for the rest of the world to see RPG's as a whole, not just as D&D.
@Ghaladen There are a ton of fantasy games out there to choose from, especially in the D20-like category. There's also something to be said for old games still being good games. I have a feeling that WOTC will learn from 4th Edition and try to make some changes. I'm curious to see it, and I will reserve my private opinion of that for a later date. :) hehe.
I have never understood the edition wars myself as I think I have mentioned on your channel a million times. I will always play D&D(No matter what it is called). WOTC tried something new to bring in new blood and make money( as all companies should), did they succeed? Not sure to be honest WHen 2nd came out I said I won't switch, I did. When 3rd and 3.5 came out I sadi I would not switch, I did. When 4e an dPathfinder cam e out I said I won't switch, I did to Pathfinder but I still played 4e.
OMG! Thanks for the info I had always thought that wizards had adopted turn and burn marketing and this confirms it, the new DnD is dead. PS I also call my Pathfinder addiction DnD when asked what I do.
WotC got pwned by the Times. I'm with you, I'm going to watch the 5E ship set sail and disappear into the horizon. I'll be playing Pathfinder, but I'll be running D&D Rules Cyclopedia games. 4E D&D just died today. But, I do like the 4E system for Champions & Vigilantes (Super Heroes) and Gamma World (heavily modified). I, for one, welcome the new format.
Totally agree with everything you said, I lost faith in dnd after the 1st few essentials releases. My group have used 4th and 3.5 as separate games and enjoyed both, but Pathfinder is the game the dnd should have become and in a way did become. 4th for me was an unrelated game if you see what I mean. I will probably give 5th a try though. Also I won't unsubscribe keep up the good work
@YourDungeonMaster 3rd and 3.5 lasted together 8 years and 4th and Essentials only lasted 3 years? This is a bad move and it's not even 4.5 it's a whole new edition. I think I'll stick with 4th because I AM BRAND NEW to RPGs and each day I always feel like I joined the community at the wrong time.
Wow! I wonder what 5e would be like.....then again i only played 1e and a tiny bit of 4th so far.

Nakasi100 1 month ago
I fully agree with you. 4E turned me off of WotC and Pathfinder became my fantasy game of choice. My group and I don't call it Pathfinder, like you, we just call it D&D.

Ah man, the whole time I'm watching your video I'm thinking..."I really want to see that nerd rage video" lol :). You really hyped it up good!
And yeah, I agree with you about Pathfinder. I really feel like it's D&D, and I still think of it as D&D. Unless 5E is a godsend, best case scenario in my mind would be if Hasbro sells the D&D brand to Paizo :).
Creslin321 1 month ago
@Creslin321 I have forgiven WOTC so i cant release the vid, but if Hasbro sold D&D to Paizo....that would turn the world of gaming upside down....wow..that would be wild

creativemountain 1 month ago
@creativemountain Thanks. ya, this video was made "in the heat of the moment" after the news was just released. This channel used to be dedicated to 4th edition which i supported hardcore, I just felt betrayed at the time.
YourDungeonMaster 1 month ago
I'm also set back by this news but all we can do is keep gaming. WOTC is a business out to make money. I cant be mad that there making a 5e, hell madden drops a new game every year and people line up ever year to buy it. New books + new fans = $.
sev00782 2 months ago
@sev00782 I agree, its just the fact I spent a G on books this year, and they said there would be no 5th edition for a long time. Everything you said to me I said to 3rd edition players all year.
YourDungeonMaster 2 months ago
@YourDungeonMaster Just 1k??? I spent in the last 10 years well over 20k on 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, PF, and other supplements under the OGL. :D I will continue to spend money on such products and will purchase 5th edition as it is released. My only issue is that you stated they said there will be no other editions after 4th. Where did that come from??? Did you honestly think the 4th edition of D&D was certainly going to be the be all, end all???
Ancientgamer1970 1 month ago
@Ancientgamer1970 First off, keep cool. Yes I spent 1000k (maybe more)just on 4th edition, but i own all the editions and many $1000's in minis. Chris Perkins said there will be no fifth edition,so when 4 years later it comes out,its very disturbing. FYI this channel was deadicated to 4th up until 2 weeks ago. 4th for me was the closest thing to perfection IMO. I would have rather they came out with 4.5 with everything fixed or simply a new core book.
YourDungeonMaster 1 month ago
@YourDungeonMaster LOL, typical response as I suspected I would get who went on a NERD RAGE rant when the word was passed on 5th edition. Keep cool??? What do you mean keep cool??? I was just responding to your rant. Socially inept gamers at its best. No big deal, I am going to UNSUBSCribe because I thought you were better than that. Long live 5th edition (it is not called that anyways, it is being referenced as D&D Next).
Ancientgamer1970 1 month ago
@Ancientgamer1970 Please unsub because youre a troll. Ive looked at your other comments to other channels and you are a douche. If you were standing in front of me i would bitch slap you. I meant keep cool on your response to other gamers on here. I dont need your sub, now beat it.

@YourDungeonMaster Ancientgamer1970 is not likely subbed. He created his account on the 14th of Jan, 2012. He's just trolling people. And considering the comments he left on my video .... he's likely from EnWorld.

WOTC have ripped people off big time...5th edition so soon after 4th edition WTF !!!
nozzer2002 2 months ago
@nozzer2002 Do you know anything about business??? The D&D name brand has been knocked off its pedastal by Paizo for the last 3 quarters which I must remind you has NEVER happened since the name brand Dungeons & Dragons was created. Hasbor took that as if something is wrong. It is what it is. WOTC did not rip anyone off. So, lets not be so naive about this whole issue and just accept the fact what is going on. WOTC is a business, plain and simple and it will do what it takes.
Ancientgamer1970 1 month ago
FundamentalPhysicist 2 months ago
Wizards are trying to create a better game, from the core. Pathfinder is built on an outdated core. Consequently you won't really get anything really new with Pathfinder. It's a pricy hobby, but really not much worse than your average Joe's World of warcraft subscription.
If you want to sit there with your Pathfinder books, then fine. But don't knock the game before it has come out. 4th is designed far better than Pathfinder in my mind, and I can't wait for 5th to come out.
FundamentalPhysicist 2 months ago
@FundamentalPhysicist Pathfinder is built on the D20 core, which is the same as 4th. 4th has only with minor changes. You must not know this channel very well because if you did you would know me as one of the biggest 4th supporters there is. This entire channel was based on 4th as well as my facebook. This year alone I spent $1000 on 4th, so I have every right to be upset, and knock the decision to come out with a new edition after saying there would be no 5th edition.
YourDungeonMaster 2 months ago
@YourDungeonMaster What I meant with core was the structuring in designing.
Now, that's a lot of money. I spent under $100 buying books 2nd handed. New editions will always come out, it's only a matter of time. There's no such thing as a perfect game, optimization with regard to streamlining, etc. is all we can hope for.
FundamentalPhysicist 2 months ago
We'll see how well the 5th Edition "toolbox" idea works out. The edition wars didn't start with 4E.
As John Lydgate/Abraham Lincoln once said: "...you can't please all of the people all of the time."

~12s, if not ~200, authors, spread across 30yrs designing stuff with very little guidance for the most part; virtually no centralized concepts that were being maintained,
and there should be a "one true version" of D&D?
It never, ever existed.

the following post is not mine, but I am putting it here, because it was worth seeing the perspective... (cont.)
thespiritcoyote 2 months ago
I don't have any specific brand or version loyalties. I play, read, and buy what looks good to me. True, 4th Ed. didn't do alot for me, but I had plenty of other games to try out. It had some good ideas to it, but it didn't inspire me enough to go out and invest in the game. One reason why I didn't try the game was WoCs lack of PDF support. Will they make PDFs of 5th Edition available? For some reason, I think not.
windmark8040 2 months ago

Peace!

I never really noticed the edition wars in D&D. Kinda like how you explained how people in Pathfinder just play their game and have fun, that's what I do with D&D, whatever the edition may be. I just play my game and have fun, don't really care how the community of D&D is split on the editions.

@snuzzlebumble @_@ can't help but notice the Dispute & Disunion controversy, but it dosn't have to effect my own perspectives... XD
thespiritcoyote 2 months ago
@snuzzlebumble Glad you missed eddition wars though not sure how. The wars divided RPGers but improved RPG's. Competition is always good. It is the 2nd "time of sorrows" in the industry. For the 2nd time in RPG history D&D has lost the top spot for best selling RPG game in the past year or more. Due to RPGers feelings about 4e. WotC has self admittingly learned a huge lesson with 4e and leaving the OGL. For the 1st time D&D is being beat by it's own game with a different name.

The only edition-rewrite that has upset me with disappointment (briefly) was Cyberpunk V3 - nothing done in the RPG industry in this way, will likely ever get me upset again.
I use a 4 and 3*(1/2)s hybrid of D&D, soon I will be using a 5 and 4*(1/2)s.
thespiritcoyote 2 months ago
intresting, I am not much of a d20 fan, I prefer other systems such as worlds of darkness and savage worlds.
However, I am curious if they will end up updating their old settings they have published for dnd, ie ravenloft mystara, birthright, dragonlance, dark sun, and the countless other settings.
herkles1 2 months ago

5e is a tool box RPG was refered to as "40th anniversary eddition" to combine older edditons.
blackbarnz 2 months ago
@blackbarnz comparability between editions will likely be possibility under a Monte Cook leadership... but that depends on how much control he can gather, if there is time, and if there is interest from those who understand 4e well enough within it's own framework.
I do hope it happens... or at least... I hope 4th edition is given more attention so that it becomes possible to do with more ease... atm 4e /is/ the weak-link in the chain... but there are elements I can appreciate.
thespiritcoyote 2 months ago
@thespiritcoyote From what I've heard, WotC sought out Monte last year after his divorce and moved him to a unfurnished apartment in Seattle. From what he's conveyed to me they've taken a similiar approach as the Basic Role Playing game has with mechanics, allowing switches to be turned on and off as DM sees fit, But this was several month ago.
blackbarnz 2 months ago
@blackbarnz [oops: compatibility >_< between editions]
toggle switches are nice... that was an esthetic in 3e and had been given a good go in 2e(Player's/DM's Options) notably GURPS laid much of the firm-ground in that philosophy also...
still hope there is some attention to the possibility of a new Rules Cyclopedia for each of the previous editions, as they did for D&D:Basic - and some cross-compatibility made available with system-sets...
man I miss the days when Mystara was dynamic (_ _)"
thespiritcoyote 2 months ago
@thespiritcoyote I missed Mystara sadly! Still looking for a copy! Agreed the toggle switch philosophy was lead by Steve Jackson and G.U.R.P.S. There's several interesting articles today on various media sources as well as great insight on designers blogs on the coming eddition.

Ghaladen 2 months ago
@Ghaladen There are a ton of fantasy games out there to choose from, especially in the D20-like category. There's also something to be said for old games still being good games. I have a feeling that WOTC will learn from 4th Edition and try to make some changes. I'm curious to see it, and I will reserve my private opinion of that for a later date. :) hehe.
Samwise7RPG 2 months ago
I have never understood the edition wars myself as I think I have mentioned on your channel a million times. I will always play D&D(No matter what it is called). WOTC tried something new to bring in new blood and make money( as all companies should), did they succeed? Not sure to be honest WHen 2nd came out I said I won't switch, I did. When 3rd and 3.5 came out I sadi I would not switch, I did. When 4e an dPathfinder cam e out I said I won't switch, I did to Pathfinder but I still played 4e.
