The point was, Fans had portrayed Momiji as little more than a loyal lapdog to Aya for a good few years before double spoiler came out, and when double spoiler came out, ZUN revealed that Momiji and Aya just plain don't like each other and always seem to get into arguments, thus negating the loyal lapdog image.

For example, Meiling.

The fan base has her as being little more than a constantly sleeping gate DECORATION, with how ineffective they make her at her job.

Cannonically, Meiling is actually a rather good gate guard, With only Reimu(via danmaku match) having been able to force her way in. All the others that have tried have failed, and she usually catches anyone trying to sneak by.

Like Meiling, most people realize she doesn't fail as a gaurd, but use her sleeping as to allow other characters which normally would be stopped to get in to the SDM. Also for the completely original and uncommonly used knife joke [/sarcasm].

Of course, you do have a point with Momiji, but where's the fun disliking each other?

@maximusfive Ok, I understand your position now. My point was that Touhou's is a fanbase which (for artistic or humorous purpose) may distort or even reject a given character's personality. For ones with less characterization, fans will create a personallity that is accepted as true, which is the reason for my original statement.

Touhou is one of only two games/series I know where the fans are such a big part of the thing itself that they are almost equally important as cannon (Also Minecraft).
