Sarplaninac is, by legacy, Serbian and Macedonian dog. "Illyrian", by the ancient name of the region, was legally wiped out in 1957. it really depends on the wolf you idiots, its pretty clear these are not particularly large wolves as they can go up to 170 pounds or more. so it is fully possible for 1 of these dogs to take them 1 on 1
you can even see when one CO approaches wolf, wolf puts his tail down and runs for his life, but gets caught and owned easily, wolf right away knew that they had no chance look at second wolf at one point he is trying to get away and Alpha dog is still shaking the first dead pray, then gets up and takes on second one and puts it down and other dog came and helped him, but it could easily have killed it sure it could have taken little longer.

It takes 2-3 CAO or CO to take out a wolf, bottom line. That does NOT mean i am putting down CAO's.. i'm not, they are awesome powerful dogs and good flock protectors, also, it rarely ever comes to a fight; the CAO usually deters the wolf from attacking a sheep as wolves want an easy meal, so will stay away from the flock guarded by a CAO or any LGD. However, 1 on 1, a dominant wolf would destroy a CAO most the time. FACT!
@1sowild Very often one dog kills one wolf. I was born in Kazakhstan, and we had a lot of Caucasians and South Russian shepherds there. Both very capable killing a wolf in one on one situation, seen it few times and even more so heard from people. So not sure where you're getting your facts from. These dogs are not Ovcharkas. They are SARPLANINACS, the livestock guardian dog of Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia. Most people when watching a video that is not in English just say whatever they think. You have to LISTEN and watch the video,not just watch.
Trust me, i am a big fan of Ovcharka! However, weight does not always matter, the dog in better shape and a stronger survival to live will prevail. I know there may have been a few occasions where Ovcharka that prob took wolves, but straight up... the wolf is wild and fights everyday to survive!
While i love the Ovcharka, it was NOT 1 dog vs the wolves. There was 2 wolves, and it looked to be at least 3 dogs, plus, the man in there swinging a stick at them. Is the Ovcharka 1 of the best LGD dogs? Absolutely!! However, this movie clip does not fairly represent a 1 on 1 encounter with Ovcharka vs wolf. Can an Ovcharka overcome a wolf... maybe, but not always, actually, a wolf would probably win a straight up 1 on 1 fight 8 out of 10 times against any dog.

Working caucasian dogs are slightly different from the show dogs, because they can have every shape, so a caucasian can look like a sarplaninac - i am not really familiar with those dogs, but these dogs sure look like caucasians, and you can tell there's a caucasian there because at 1:55 there is a dog with a marking only caucasians can have (sarplaninacs dont)

it really depends on the wolf you idiots, its pretty clear these are not particularly large wolves as they can go up to 170 pounds or more. so it is fully possible for 1 of these dogs to take them 1 on 1

you can even see when one CO approaches wolf, wolf puts his tail down and runs for his life, but gets caught and owned easily, wolf right away knew that they had no chance look at second wolf at one point he is trying to get away and Alpha dog is still shaking the first dead pray, then gets up and takes on second one and puts it down and other dog came and helped him, but it could easily have killed it sure it could have taken little longer.

It takes 2-3 CAO or CO to take out a wolf, bottom line. That does NOT mean i am putting down CAO's.. i'm not, they are awesome powerful dogs and good flock protectors, also, it rarely ever comes to a fight; the CAO usually deters the wolf from attacking a sheep as wolves want an easy meal, so will stay away from the flock guarded by a CAO or any LGD. However, 1 on 1, a dominant wolf would destroy a CAO most the time. FACT!

@1sowild Very often one dog kills one wolf. I was born in Kazakhstan, and we had a lot of Caucasians and South Russian shepherds there. Both very capable killing a wolf in one on one situation, seen it few times and even more so heard from people. So not sure where you're getting your facts from. It's just much more often wolves are outnumbered.

@1sowild not really, one CO against a wolf and the CO would win...its much stronger then you think, CO have a much stronger bite force then a wolf and its built much more muscular then a wolf, and on top of that it has an incredibly strong will to protect, plus have you seen the sheer size of one of them?? and then took a good look at a wolf? it seems as though the CO is a much more dangerous creature then a wolf, because is much bigger and more massive and way more power, so get better facts ;)

Trust me, i am a big fan of Ovcharka! However, weight does not always matter, the dog in better shape and a stronger survival to live will prevail. I know there may have been a few occasions where Ovcharka that prob took wolves, but straight up... the wolf is wild and fights everyday to survive!

While i love the Ovcharka, it was NOT 1 dog vs the wolves. There was 2 wolves, and it looked to be at least 3 dogs, plus, the man in there swinging a stick at them. Is the Ovcharka 1 of the best LGD dogs? Absolutely!! However, this movie clip does not fairly represent a 1 on 1 encounter with Ovcharka vs wolf. Can an Ovcharka overcome a wolf... maybe, but not always, actually, a wolf would probably win a straight up 1 on 1 fight 8 out of 10 times against any dog.

@1sowild dogo can kill a even a cougar 1 v 1 yet their weaker than ovcharcas, kangal dogs are ABOUT the same ovcharkas, kangals got a bite force of 765pounds, stronger than the african lion(600andsomething),and it is recorded on the national geographics, a huge giant agressive wolve's bite force is just 400 pounds,about half of kangals and ovcharcas. second, ovcharcas are almost 2 times heavier,a really heavy wolf weighs 120 pounds, ovcharcas can go 200+, and OV's are much more agressive!

@123MrHarry Sorry, not trying to be a d**k, but here are some FACTS: a Dogo can NOT take a cougar 1 on 1,.. Dogo's are used in packs of 3-5 to hunt cougar. FACT 2: Livestock guardian dogs are used in packs of a few to INTIMIDATE wolves from attacking a flock! People often mistake this as thinking it means these dogs are tougher.. there NOT.. they are outstanding protectors, BUT, 1 on 1, a wolf will F*** up an Ovcharka or Kangal, and cougar will maul a Dogo. It's that simple!

This is not what I think but it is real our dogs can kill the wolves one on one and the Russians call them volkadav which means a wolf killers. I have also incountared our dogs chassing siberian tiger. If you want to see it come to the steppes. These dogs has been protecting us for thousands of years.
